In the 2000s, change in the business world and pioneering strategies that shape change are becoming the main conditions for superiority in competition. Until recently the traditional management and organization approaches that are in place are inadequate to meet the new expectations coming from change. The aim of this study is to reveal the extent to which the managers of health institutions have adopted the strategic management approach. In this study, it is explained whether the managers have knowledge about strategic management tools which are the basis of strategic management application methods, what strategic management tools they use, their level of satisfaction with these tools and what tools they intend to use in the future. In addition, the changes in the health management managers in the field of strategic management, the priorities in the selection of strategic management tools, the importance of strategic thinking and the effects of strategic management understanding on performance are examined.

This study aimed to identify the use of management tools and the influence of stakeholders on organizational performance of companies in the private health sector in the Federal District. We used the tools of strategic management, such as budgeting, strategic planning, balanced scorecard, benchmarking, and management software. Study participants consist of individuals involved in strategic processes. We analyzed the past 5 years in organizations to understand the performance. The data collection was face-to-face, the instruments consisted of qualitative interviews in person, and semi-structured content analysis. We also performed analysis of secondary data and documents. To measure the performance between the organizations we used the method of data envelopment analysis (DEA), using the CCR standard, and the mean change index as the number of employees, physicians, costs, number of appointments, and tests. In the analysis of tools and stakeholders we adapted values for the major and minor influences and the other results found framed. The results cite the presence of management tools in five of the six organizations. The comparison of performance between them presented as a result that organizations 2 and 4 were efficient and 3 was the least efficient. The study identified the need to understand the requirements of stakeholders and the indicators set out to understand organizational performance and its evolution, mainly determined by the management tools. Although not reaching proposed levels, this work creates hypotheses about the use of these tools and analysis of stakeholders in organizational performance.

<p>The article deals with corporate social responsibility as part of the formation of the company’s strategy. The problem of linking the strategic management of social responsibility, which is the basis for long-term sustainable development of the organization, have a positive impact on the environment. In this connection, it clarified the essential characteristics of social responsibility of business strategy development reflecting its development, renewal of forms of representation and instruments of regulation of social activity. The principles of social responsibility, aimed at enhancing its integration into the strategic management system (multi-level development, the complexity of the implementation of the functional activities, variability management tools) were offered. The algorithm of the process of integration of social responsibility of business in the strategic management of the organization, which includes management tools for the selection of strategic priorities for the development of corporate social responsibility, was developed. For copyright management toolkit applies the matrix to determine the positioning of the organization in the coordinates of the “level of social responsibility of business - the degree of stakeholder involvement in the implementation of strategic objectives” and the Balanced Scorecard, which provides a link to strategic objectives in the field of social responsibility indicators for their achievement and tactical action based the extent of its integration into the system of strategic management.</p>

A implantação de ferramentas de gestão, como o Balanced Scorecard (BSC), envolve mudanças no controle gerencial de uma empresa em diversos aspectos, pois enfatiza a comunicação de estratégias e a criação de uma nova metodologia para o controle de desempenho. O objetivo deste estudo é realizar uma análise crítica sobre a aplicação do Balanced Scorecard em uma indústria de cerâmica vermelha, a partir da construção e da implementação dessa ferramenta de gestão em uma cerâmica localizada no município de Russas, Ceará. O estudo de caso revelou a necessidade de rever a gestão estratégica da empresa, em virtude da criação de mecanismos eficientes de alimentação dos indicadores pertencentes ao mapa estratégico, de modo a refletir sobre a situação da mesma, e por fim, garantiu que os gestores e funcionários estivessem alinhados com o modelo de gestão estratégica recém-implantado, a fim de que seja possível obter as vantagens propiciadas por este modelo de gestão. IMPLEMENTATION OF BALANCED SCORECARD IN A RED CERAMICS INDUSTRY ABSTRACT The implementation of management tools such as the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) involves changes in the managerial control of a company in several aspects, as it emphasizes the communication of strategies and the creation of a new methodology for performance control. The objective of this study is to perform a critical analysis on the application of the Balanced Scorecard in a red ceramics industry from the construction and the implementation of this management tool in a ceramics located in the municipality of Russas, Ceará. The case study revealed the need to review the strategic management of the company due to the creation of efficient mechanisms to feed the indicators belonging to the strategic map, in order to reflect on the situation of the company, and finally ensured that managers and employees were aligned with the newly implemented strategic management model, in order to obtain the advantages provided by this management model.

Strategic planning is a matter of mapping the route between the perceived present circumstances and the desired future situation. Strategic management adapts higher education institutions (HEI) to their environment including educational policy, local demand for skilled labor, and other factors. The purpose of HEIs is to positively affect the development of society and the local community. The balanced scorecard approach developed by Kaplan and Norton (2001, 2004, 2006) is a framework for the communication and implementation of the strategy. The approach creates a shared understanding of the strategic plan by describing the plan using strategy maps, strategic objectives, measures and target values for the planning period (Niven, 2005). The balanced scorecard approach can be combined with other approaches and management tools. The purpose of this article is to report on a development project where the balanced scorecard approach was applied in the management information system MIS) of an HEI. The MIS integrates the different approaches of management into human resources (HR) planning. It is important that the balanced scorecard approach is supported by the MIS. This is especially critical in large organizations. Many administrative units and organizational levels emphasize the importance of automation enabling management to consistently aggregate the scorecards of lower organizational levels to the overall scorecard. The MIS with a portal is a valuable communication channel, information processor, management tool and the joint memory of the organization. The empirical part of the article describes the MIS of the Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS), where the MIS is based on strategic management and the balanced scorecard approach. The system integrates budgeting, action plans, HR planning and quality management. The data warehouse approach is used to capture data from the diverse source systems and to store the data in an integrated database. An MIS portal was developed to support the management process and be open to the personnel of the institution. The portal supports the dialogue and commitment of the personnel to the strategic outlines. The portal is open to management and the personnel of the institution.

This book provides a tools-based approach to strategic management. The central framework rests on three pillars that constitute the essence of strategy: to diagnose, to decide, and to deliver. Within this framework a suite of strategic management tools is offered, which include both the classics and the more nascent frameworks used to strategize. The first part of the book offers a brief introduction to the essentials of strategic management and unpacks the “3D” framework of strategy. The second part of the book revolves around explaining the purpose, underlying theory, core idea, depiction, process, value created, and risks and limitations of each tool. Hands-on advice is emphasized. The book also offers case illustrations that offer concrete examples of how the tools can be applied. The concluding chapter summarizes the key insights on a high level and offers concluding thoughts on how the tools can be combined.

Purpose This paper aims to introduce strategic management tools for companies with hybrid business models, for example, those with citizen participation. These models are often used of citizen renewable energy companies that have become a main pillar of the energy sector in Germany in recent years. The strategic management tools proposed here could help to achieve most of their objectives. Design/methodology/approach In the first step, a definition of hybrid businesses is derived by literature review, and the importance of strategic management in companies with citizen participation is discussed. In the next step, a new construct of a balanced scorecard (BSC) model is applied to citizen renewable energy companies by using survey data and previous studies. Findings Companies with citizen participation differ from profit-seeking companies and nonprofit organizations, and they are described by new hybrid business models. This study shows with a modification of the BSC that social or environmental aims are as important as financial ones to companies with citizen participation, which follow a double bottom line approach. Practical implications Hybrid businesses are important for the German energy sector, and strategic management tools are needed for their continued success and competitiveness. This paper can be a starting point for the management who want to implement these tools. Originality/value The paper addresses a gap in the strategic management literature on companies with citizen participation. The tools developed here can be modified for other hybrid businesses.

Purpose Describes how Agile teams can use strategic management tools and processes to discover market-creating innovations. Design/methodology/approach The related article “The next frontier for Agile: strategic management” in the previous issue of Strategy & Leadership explored the theory and possibilities of enterprise-wide Strategic Agility, a combination of Agile mindset and processes with strategic management theory to produce continuous market-creating innovation. This second installment offers insights from noted practitioners about implementing it. Findings The strategic concepts of Kim & Mauborgne’s Blue Ocean Strategy, Clayton Christensen’s Job to Be Done theory and Curt Carlson’s SRI Playbook – Need, Approach, Benefits per costs and Competition (NABC) can be adopted by Agile teams seeking innovations that create new customer value. Practical implications Identifying a well-defined Job to Be Done produces the start of an innovation blueprint which is unlike the traditional marketing concept of “needs” because of the much higher degree of specificity required to identify precisely what problem your potential solution would address. Originality/value Using strategic management concepts, Agile teams can redefine how needs are being met and in the process, discover value for customers from offering something or doing something that the company or the industry currently doesn’t provide.
