Reflective practice (RP) is an avenue to becoming an effective teacher. Collaborative dialogue on teaching practice increases critical engagement with RP and provides peer-support opportunities (Mann & Walsh, 2017). In this paper we describe how our use of collaborative RP sessions impacted our sense of teacher efficacy. Two classes of Japanese university students selected, practised, and performed three short extracts from movies. We aimed to develop pronunciation, fluency, and enjoyment and engagement with English. In three teaching cycles, we engaged in collaborative dialogue sessions to reflect on teaching, discussing achievement of class goals and planned changes. RP sessions were audio recorded, transcribed, and qualitatively analysed for themes of teacher efficacy. We believe that reflecting and sharing our teaching practices led to an increased sense of our own capacity to effect positive teaching outcomes. Additionally, our response to negative teaching outcomes suggested increased confidence in our ability to adapt our teaching practice in response.

Reflection and reflective practices are integral to teacher education; therefore, this study contributes to the growing literature on reflective practice by uncovering gender differences. The study explored the influence of gender differences and teaching experience on postsecondary instructors' conscious reflective teaching practice, using a survey of 226 male and 207 female EFL instructors working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The results indicated that females scored higher than males on the total English Language Teaching Reflection Inventory (ELTRI) scores, except on the critical factor of the ELTRI, where males outperformed. The results also revealed that experienced instructor participants had a significantly higher score on the total ELTRI than novice instructor participants. The study proposes a tangible, flexible resource for reflective practices of applied, cognitive, affective, metacognitive, and critical reflection, and offers assistance to counter gender differences. The study recommends designing guides with effective and valid instruments for fostering reflective teaching practices. Policymakers in higher institutions should prepare systematic programs and provide remedial resources and events for instructors to target the most challenging areas for both genders. Future research should also consider other factors, such as the academic degree, cultural background, and linguistic differences that might affect the instructors' knowledge and reflective practice.

One of phenomena that occur in the educational world is the issue of discrepancies that occur between theory the pre-service teacher learned in college with implementation when they should teach in thereal fields (schools). Problem Based Learning (PBL) becomes one of the efforts to bridge the existing problems. This research is conducted to find out the extend of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in Micro Teaching course since the course must be accomplished by students before carrying out practical activities in the real field in the school at teaching training program. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. And in this research the writer uses case study as a research design to find out the purpose of the research. The participants of the the research are 8 students from a class of micro teaching course in English Department of Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. In this paper, The Students as the Pre Service Teacher(s) are coded PST(s). The writer uses observation as the instruments of the research. Theory of Miles and Huberman are used to collect data from observation. Regarding to the discussion above, the four aspects of competences of effective teacher are shown in the teaching practice done by the students of Micro teaching course that apply Problem Based Learning (PBL). The majority results of the observation explain that applying Problem Based Learning in Micro Teaching course develops pre-service teachers competence in their teaching in classroom. This research shows pre-service teachers can integrate their competences and create good performance in their teaching practice.

AbstractThe affinity for hikikomori represents the desire to be withdrawn, as well as to entertain an empathetic attitude towards withdrawn individuals. It is composed of two subdimensions, the maladaptive desire for hikikomori, and empathy for others with hikikomori. This longitudinal study examined whether autistic traits predicted the affinity for hikikomori. At the baseline assessment, undergraduate and graduate students in Japan (N = 272) completed the Autism-Spectrum Quotient (AQ), the Affinity for Hikikomori Scale in University Students, and measures assessing academic failures and interpersonal conflicts. They also completed all measures excluding the AQ eight weeks later. Structural equation modeling indicated that difficulties in social interaction aspects of autistic traits were positively associated with academic failures at Time 2 even after controlling for academic failures at Time 1. In addition, difficulties in social interaction were positively related to the desire for hikikomori at Time 2 indirectly via academic failures at Time 2 after controlling for the desire for hikikomori at Time 1. Difficulties in social interaction were also directly associated with the increased desire for hikikomori at Time 2. These findings suggest that autistic traits, and especially difficulties in social interaction, are predictors of the maladaptive aspect of the affinity for hikikomori.
