This paper aims to conduct exploratory research into dissemination of the purpose of the Industry 4.0 concept in Brazil, especially in the Architecture, Engineering and Civil Construction (AEC) sector. For this aim, a survey was conducted in on line magazines. In Brazilian territory the theme arises since 2016 in traditional manufacturing sector. In AEC the papers on these organizational mechanisms are incipient, especially when talking about possible networks of connections between clients, production, machines with data feedback and specialized programming.

The traditional manufacturing system is going through a rapid transformation and has brought a revolution in the industries. Industry 4.0 is considered to be a new era of the industrial revolution in which all the processes are integrated with a product to achieve higher efficiency. Digitization and automation have changed the nature of work resulting in an intelligent manufacturing system. The benefits of Industry 4.0 include higher productivity and increased flexibility. However, the implementation of the new processes and methods comes along with a lot of challenges. Industry 4.0. requires more skilled workers to handle the operations of the digitalized manufacturing system. The fourth industrial revolution or Industry 4.0 has become the absolute reality and will undoubtedly have an impact on safety and maintenance. Hence, to tackle the issues arising due to digitization is an area of concern and has to be dealt with using the innovative technologies in the manufacturing industries.

Purpose Industry 4.0 is a term for the so-called Fourth Industrial revolutions. It is the technological integration of cyber-physical systems (CPS) in the process of production. CPS enables internet-based process networking with all participants in the process of value creation. The industrial revolution is actually changing how we live, work and communicate. Many trades have highly been affected by 4IR, libraries are one of them. The libraries of twenty-first century are shifting their paradigms from traditional setup to modern information networking. As people and machines are connecting to each other at enormous speed, artificial intelligence, mobile computing, machine learning and automation of every trade have become a need of the day. Automation and artificial intelligence are change agents in 4IR that will make certain groups of employees redundant, replacing them with new workers with the needed skills or with machines that do the job cheaper. This paper aims to shed light on how the 4IR will “shape the future of education, gender, work and library services”. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the challenges being faced by the library and librarians in the age of Industrial 4.0 revolution in contemporary society. The purpose of this study is to review the past literature on Industrial Revolutions 4.0 in education and interlink them with Library services. Design/methodology/approach The current study performs a systematic and content-centric review of literature relevant to library services. The literature of this study is based on a six-stage approach to identify the design principles and technology trends of 4IR in education and Library services. Findings Industry 4.0 Revolution is the current trend of revolutionary technology, which has affected many services in this age of globalization. Similar, Library services have highly been affected by 4IR. An effort has been made to highlight the vari-ous challenges being faced by libraries and librarians in this age of information. Some solutions have been presented to the library professionals to overcome this technology to boost its services up to the entire satisfaction of the patrons. Research limitations/implications The strategic approach in this study can serve the academicians and practitioners in the field of librarianship as a stepping stone to develop a successful transition from traditional manufacturing into the industry 4.0. Originality/value The study is among the first to identify the challenges being faced by libraries and librarians in this age of Industrial revolutions.

The fourth industrial revolution and accompanying digital transformation has progressed dramatically in recent years. The new digital revolution, mostly known as Industry 4.0, introduces impressive changes in the way enterprises and organizations are operating in a globalized world and altering the well-established lifestyle of a society. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to identify the current capabilities of companies in the context of Industry 4.0. Current literature on Industry 4.0 maturity and assessment models underlies the importance of a proper development strategy with exact steps to perform. Design principles address the issue of systematizing the measurable and attainable steps for further development. The present study contributes towards the identification of the research gap in the presence of core Industry 4.0 design principles during the development of maturity models. The analysis of 12 chosen maturity models by eight core design principles was provided. This research can serve as a starting point for the development of a complex strategic roadmap and thereby to provide a successful transition from traditional manufacturing into Industry 4.0.

Sustainable manufacturing has been a popular topic of research for quite some time now. There are various concepts and ideas which have claimed to have a significant impact on sustainability of the manufacturing industry like lean, green and agile manufacturing. Industry 4.0 is the latest and by far the one with the maximum potential of changing the manufacturing sector forever. It is rightly called as “the fourth industrial revolution”. It is a wide concept which covers many state of the art technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Augmented reality etc. But like every big revolution, it is to face many challenges also. In this review, we are looking at this ‘yet in infancy’ concept and its role in achieving a sustainable manufacturing sector as discussed by researchers. Different scholars have come up with different challenges to implementation of I4.0 which they thought to be of some significance. There is going to  review such challenges making a list of 13 such challenges. Then, it also throw some light on the new challenge faced by all of humanity in the form of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and how it is affecting the manufacturing sector.

Industry 4.0 and lean management both focus on increasing productivity of industrial systems. Industry 4.0 is foreseen to revolutionize today’s manufacturing environment whereas lean management is an integrated techno-operational system which has gained increasing importance in recent times to bring about a competitive state in an organization. Though in the last three decades there have been rigorous studies on lean manufacturing (LM), its implementation in the Indian manufacturing domain is still in its nascent stage. A lack of research to explore the potential use of Industry 4.0 is also noted. Research work on the compatibility of Industry 4.0 with LM is scarce and any study on the role of Industry 4.0 on LM in the Indian manufacturing sector is practically unavailable. The aim of this research is to explore how the fourth industrial revolution, referred to as Industry 4.0, can strategize LM in the Indian manufacturing context. Empirical studies have disclosed that Indian managers are hesitant to go for automation and technological developments. Results of this work reveal that there needs to be a change in attitude and approach. Lean implementers in India need to embrace Industry 4.0 to pivot LM by automating through Cyber-Physical Systems and creating a flexible design and production model of customized and smart products.

Abstract The fourth industrial revolution, also known as Industry 4.0 is a new paradigm that is significantly influencing several manufacturing industries across the globe. Industry 4.0 synchronizes concepts such as Smart Manufacturing, Smart Factory, and the Internet of Things with existing factory automation technologies in order to improve value in manufacturing by monitoring key performance indicators and creates value in all manufacturing related aspects. Currently, several industries have started early initiatives of implementing these technologies. As the industries are evaluating their readiness for implementing the Industry 4.0 concepts, there are several challenges which need to be addressed including high initial investment, lack of standardization, data security and lack of skilled labor. A strategic roadmap towards implementing the Industry 4.0 paradigms is still unclear in the industry as well as in academia. This research develops an initial framework for the effective implementation of Industry 4.0 in the high technology manufacturing sectors in the Southern California region. The results of this study are expected to provide a platform to expand the opportunities of Industry 4.0 further and facilitate worldwide adoption.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan publikasi ilmiah para dosen di Maluku pada perguruan tinggi di bawah naungan Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan. Metode yang digunakan adalah time series comparative terhadap data penelitian tahun 2017 yang dibandingkan dengan data penelitian tahun 2019. Variabel yang dibandingkan adalah jumlah dosen yang terdata dalam Pangkalan Data Pendidikan Tinggi, jumlah dosen yang terdaftar sebagai penulis terverifikasi pada portal SINTA, jumlah publikasi yang terindeks scopus, web of science, dan google scholar, jumlah sitasi, dan jumlah jurnal dari perguruan tinggi di Maluku yang terdaftar pada portal SINTA. Currently, several large companies industries have started early initiatives for implementing these technologies. However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face massive challenges in adopting Industry 4.0 technologies. As the SMEs are evaluating their readiness for implementing the Industry 4.0 concepts, several challenges need to be addressed, including high initial investment, lack of standardization, data security, and lack of skilled labor. A strategic roadmap towards implementing the Industry 4.0 paradigms is still unclear in the SME sector as well as in academia. This research focuses on designing a framework for training/retraining the strong workforce for SMEs to enable Industry 4.0 adoption and implementation. The framework is created using qualitative research methods followed by the secondary data collection approach. The study suggests the use of a three-step implementation process consisting of 1) creating new jobs, 2) recruiting, and 3) retraining and retaining the talent. The results of this study are expected to create a platform to train the workforce for Industry 4.0, reduce skill gaps, and retain incumbent workers in the manufacturing sector.

The term ‘Industry 4.0’ or the fourth Industrial Revolution refers to the addition of smart technology to traditional manufacturing and industrial practices. This practice was first introduced by the German government in the year 2011 to empower its economy. The trend steadily gained roots and spread to other countries across the globe. This study explores the preparedness of select Indian industries to implement Industry 4.0, or in other words, build smart factories using innovative technologies. It also throws light on the benefits, challenges, drivers and barriers to Industry 4.0 in the Indian context. Based on data from corporate executives, it also highlights issues and challenges related to investment cost, skills gap and data security in implementing Industry 4.0. The study also provides a framework for a mapping application to map the qualities, benefits and challenges faced by selected Indian industries at two levels: concept implementation and the full implementation.

PurposeThe emergence the fourth industrial revolution, known as well as industry 4.0, and its applications in the manufacturing sector ushered a new era for the business entities. It not only promises enhancement in operational efficiency but also magnify sustainable operations practices. This current paper provides a thorough bibliometric and network analysis of more than 600 articles highlighting the benefits in favor of the sustainability dimension in the industry 4.0 paradigm.Design/methodology/approachThe analysis begins by identifying over 1,000 published articles in Scopus, which were then refined to works of proven influence and those authored by influential researchers. Using rigorous bibliometric software, established and emergent research clusters were identified for intellectual network analysis, identification of key research topics, interrelations and collaboration patterns.FindingsThis bibliometric analysis of the field helps graphically to illustrate the publications evolution over time and identify areas of current research interests and potential directions for future research. The findings provide a robust roadmap for mapping the research territory in the field of industry 4.0 and sustainability.Originality/valueAs the literature on sustainability and industry 4.0 expands, reviews capable of systematizing the main trends and topics of this research field are relevant.
