Harmony is the process of coordinated development between the elements, subsystems and the environment in each Engineering stage of the engineering implementation. Quality, duration, cost and risk are the key factors to achieve engineering harmony. Clarifying the influencing factors of engineering harmony and its mechanism can improve the possibility of success. The meta-analysis method is used to carry out a restudy of existing researches of engineering harmony. First, quality, duration, cost and risk are selected as the variables of achieving engineering harmony. Second, the paper collects 29 existing researches including many countries and regions around the world on the relationship between the variables and engineering harmony. Third, each value is calculated and corrected according to literature coding. Forth, publication deviation and total effect test are checked. Finally, the research conclusions and engineering management implications are given based on the results of meta-analysis. The results show that quality objective, duration objective, cost objective and risk management objective all have positive impact on achieving engineering harmony. The engineering type has no regulatory effect on positive impact of the duration objective and cost objective, but has regulatory effect on positive impact of the quality objective and risk management objective on the engineering harmony.

Given the increasing interest in alliance portfolios, alliance portfolio diversity (APD) has been the focus of many recent studies. Yet, the performance consequences of APD—or of diversity in general—are neither theoretically clear nor empirically consistent. With meta-analytic analyses, we assess extant research on the APD–performance link. Across studies, APD has a positive impact on performance, although the level of analysis and how performance is measured influence the relationship. Going beyond conventional quantitative synthesis, however, we also systematically uncover patterns in how theoretical orientation and the operationalization of diversity moderate the APD–performance relationship. Our study serves as an invitation for future APD studies to employ more sophisticated theoretical and operationalization approaches as they expand our knowledge of diversity in alliance portfolios.

In order for a company to economically survive, it needs to compete with a highly competitive market. The world is changing fast, adding different types of risks to companies. So, companies need to not only meet requirements but also exceed them. At the same time, companies are required to lower the level of risks they may encounter. As a result, continuous improvement and risk management should be key factors to insure company success. This study explores the relationship between the two concepts and gives examples where the interconnections between them exist. Also, the study explains the important key components of continuous improvement and the classifications of risk management. Finally, this article focuses on three aspects, managing complaints, developing strategy, and creating a suitable culture. These aspects are evaluated based on the relationship between continuous improvement and risk management.

PurposeWith the rise of service economy, many companies are attempting to gain a competitive advantage through service innovation. However, the existing research has not drawn consistent conclusions about the relationship between service innovation and firm performance. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to provide a quantitative review on the service innovation-performance relationship based on research findings reported in the extant literature.Design/methodology/approachStudies from 46 peer-reviewed articles were sampled and analyzed. A meta-analytic approach was adopted to conduct a quantitative review on the relationship between service innovation and firm performance, and the effects of any potential moderators were further explored.FindingsThe results found that service innovation has a significant positive impact on firm performance. Additionally, the relationship between service innovation and firm performance is influenced by measurement moderators (economic region and performance measurement), and contextual moderators (firm type, innovation type, customer factors and attitudes toward risk).Originality/valueThe meta-analysis has been used to explore the relationship between service innovation and firm performance, and the findings have contributed to the literature on service innovation, as well as providing future research directions.

Abstract Could the environmental regulation promote green innovation? This is a very controversial issue. In view of the fact that the existing literature only studies the relationship between the two, lacks effective heterogeneity research, and pays less attention to the deeper analysis mechanism between the two. This study fills the gap. This paper selects the panel data of 285 prefecture level cities in China from 2000 to 2019 for empirical research. The results show that environmental regulation has a significant and continuous positive impact on green innovation.From the perspective of heterogeneity, we find that cities with higher level of green innovation are suitable to improve the intensity of environmental regulation; Cities with low level of green innovation can not formulate high-intensity environmental regulation policies. The intermediary mechanism shows that under the situation of stricter environmental regulations, producers will pay more attention to the promotion and accumulation of human capital, and provide strong intellectual support for green innovation activities. The adjustment mechanism shows that the cities with high degree of marketization and financial R&D investment are conducive to strengthening the promotion of environmental regulation on green innovation. On the contrary, it weakens the role of environmental regulation in promoting green innovation. In addition, this paper uses SYS-GMM model and selects appropriate instrumental variables to solve the endogeneity problem of the model. We find that after reducing the endogeneity of the model, improving the intensity of environmental regulation can still promote the level of green innovation. Using SDM decomposition model, we find that environmental regulation has spatial spillover effect on green innovation, and the formulation of environmental regulation strategy is conducive to the coordinated development of regional green innovation.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the mediating effect of supply chain risk management integration (RMI) on the relationship between supply chain logistics performance (LP) and supply chain cost performance (CP), as well as on the relationship between LP and supply chain service performance (SP). The impact of CP and SP on overall firm performance (FP) is also explored. ISO 9001-certified firms and non-certified firms are assessed to determine whether superior risk-based thinking, as required in the latest ISO 9001 standard, has a positive impact on the different relationships. Design/methodology/approach A theoretical model is developed and tested based on the participation of 140 supply chain managers. The proposed structural equation model positively relates LP, RMI, CP and SP. RMI is positively linked to CP and SP, while CP and SP are positively related to overall FP. Two subsamples (a group of 63 ISO 9001-certified firms and a group of 77 non-certified firms) are used to evaluate the model. Findings For certified and non-certified firms, LP is positively related to RMI, CP and SP, and SP and CP are positively related to FP. However, for certified firms, RMI partially mediates the relationship of LP with both CP and SP, while for non-certified firms, RMI does not mediate these relationships. The findings suggest that ISO 9001-certified firms are able to leverage RMI efforts to impact positively on supply chain performance, whereas non-certified firms are not. Research limitations/implications The study findings are based on the perceptions of managers. Even though the majority of the 63 certified firms included in this study were ISO 9001:2015 certified, the model results do not differentiate between companies certified to the 2008 version of the standard and the 2015 version (which specifically requires demonstration of risk-based thinking). Practical implications This study suggests that ISO 9001 provides a framework for risk management processes and collaboration with supply chain partners to positively impact the relationship of LP with cost and SP. Originality/value This is one of the first studies to characterize the benefits of using a structured approach for risk-based thinking that is associated with ISO 9001.

This research aims to investigate the relationship of stress and organizational commitment in employees with meta-analysis method. In the literature review, 22 studies and 42 comparisons were found which meet the determined criteria. “Fisher z” value was used to calculate impact size values and impact direction and overall impact of the research were analysed with random impact model. As a result of the analysis; it was determined that stress have a weak positive relationship impact on organizational commitment. In addition, it was also determined that there is a negative and weak relationship impact between stress and affective commitment; positive and weak relationship impact between stress and normative commitment and positive and small relationship impact between stress and continuance commitment in employees. In the research, it was seen that the impact of stress on organizational commitment vary according to the sector that employees work in. ın the analyses, it was determined that there is a positive impact in health and tourism and a negative impact in education and the impact size is weak in health and small in tourism and education. Based on the research results, it can be said that new researches are required about how and why the relationships between stress and organizational commitment in employees vary.

ContextCeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder of the small intestine associated with several extra-intestinal features, such as reproductive disorders. The relationship between celiac disease and infertility has been previously assessed, with conflicting results.ObjectivesWe seek to determine the relationship between celiac disease and infertility.MethodsData was extracted from case-control or cohort design studies from 1966 to December 2013 using the MEDLINE-Pubmed, EMBASE, LILACS and Cochrane Library databases. We analyzed two kinds of trials: those assessing the risk of infertility in subjects with already diagnosed celiac disease, and those evaluating the prevalence of undiagnosed celiac disease in subjects with a diagnosis of infertility.ResultsThe search yielded 413 potentially relevant studies for revision, 12 of which were finally included for analysis. A significant association was found between women with a diagnosis of infertility and undiagnosed celiac disease [OR 3.09 (95% CI 1.74-5.49)]. When considering those studies assessing the occurrence of infertility in subjects with already-diagnosed celiac disease, no difference was found between celiac disease patients and control subjects [OR 0.99 (0.86-1.13)].ConclusionsUndiagnosed celiac disease is a risk factor for infertility. Women seeking medical advice for this particular condition should be screened for celiac disease. Adoption of a gluten-free diet could have a positive impact on fertility in this group of patients.

Despite years of research on new product development suggesting that development speed is an important prerequisite for product success, the empirical results show conflicting conclusion. To offer much needed clarity, this study use a meta-analysis approach allowing the systematic integration of 45 empirical findings from existing research. The findings reveal that development speed has a positive impact on product success. Using subgroup analysis and meta-regression analysis, results show that the culture and industry characteristics, research level, informants and variables measurement are found to moderate the relationship between speed and new product success. These findings have important implications for further research.

Organizational factors are considered part of the broader human factors domain and have long been suspected to have a significant influence on individual and group behavior in the workplace, although there is little research on their influence in mining workplaces. This paper provides an update of a systematic literature review (SLR), reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis: The PRISMA Statement 2009. The SLR examined the relationship between organizational factors and residual risk management in the context of accident causation in mining. Six electronic databases were searched for peer-reviewed studies published between 1980 and 2018. Following eligibility criteria, 28 studies were selected for quality assessment and reviewed. The results of the SLR included the identification of several organizational factors that are common in the mining industry, as well as the existence of a conceptual relationship between organizational factors, residual risk management and accident causation. In particular, the review found that about two-thirds of the eligible articles acknowledged a linkage between organizational factors and accident causation. The SLR also identified several research gaps associated with the lack of empirical research around the relationship between organizational factors, residual risk and accident causation. More importantly, the review found no empirical studies that utilized the term residual risk thus implying a gap and inconsistency in risk taxonomy in the mining industry. In light of these gaps, further research is recommended to examine the nature and extent of the influence of organizational factors on residual risk management, with particular focus on examining the influence of organizational factors on the functioning and effectiveness of risk controls. It is envisaged that by improving the efficacy of risk controls, mining companies can ultimately improve their safety performance and make it more sustainable.
