the last decade has witnessed the birth of technological advances such as the IoT, artificial intelligence, machine learning and augmented reality. These technologies have driven the transition to Industry 4.0 where they have enabled the digitization of manufacturing with potential gain. Also Industry 4.0 has given birth to several new hybrid concepts as well as several management operations to take advantage and become more efficient by using IoT and these new technologies. In our paper, we discuss the effect of Industry 4.0 on management and quality practices by answering the following questions based on the literature review: What is the positive effect of Industry 4.0 on quality improvement and operations management? How does Industry 4.0 integrate concepts (Lean, Six Sigma, Supply Chain ...) to create new paradigms?

PurposeThis paper aims to develop a conceptual framework of the implementation of the contact points (CPs) between Lean Six Sigma practices and Industry 4.0 technologies.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review was carried out based on two samples. A first sample containing 78 articles was analyzed through bibliometric indicators. After that, a second sample of 33 articles was analyzed in-depth according to research questions.FindingsThe conceptual framework involves 13 CPs between Lean Six Sigma (LSS) practices and I4.0 technologies (what), going through the technical requirements needed (how), categorized as information technology (IT), automation and competence requirements, to finally present the main results reported in the literature (why).Research limitations/implicationsThis paper presents an innovative perspective of interactions between digital technologies and LSS practices, expanding knowledge about Digital LSS. Such perspective gives emphasis to the importance of technical requirements, such as communication and connectivity protocols, network topology, machine-to-machine communication (M2M), human–machine interfaces (HMI), as well as analytical and digital skills.Practical implicationsThe managerial implications regarding the digitalization of LSS practices address the investments required for the acquisition and maintenance of cyber-physical systems (CPS). Moreover, there is a need for the development of skills so that operators can successfully use the new technologies in a context of continuous improvement.Originality/valueThis paper presents a conceptual framework covering 13 CPs between LSS practices and Industry 4.0 technologies, the technical requirements and the expected results. It is hoped that this framework can assist future research and operational excellence projects towards digitalization.

The poultry industry has been in the spotlight for its enormous potential economic development. However, poultry industry is still not implementing the concept of sustainability properly. There are still many wastes that have not been managed properly and there are still many problems in the supply chain that require more systematic handling. Many studies have shown that the implementation of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and sustainability has positive results on the company's bottom line performance. This research tried to integrate the application of LSS principles and sustainability along the supply chain in the poultry industry in Indonesia. Data were collected from 4 listed poultry firms in Indonesia. The research method used SEM PLS with SmartPLS software. The results showed that supply chain security management system disclosure as the principle of LSS had a positive effect on the collaboration of supply chain disclosure and collaboration of supply chain disclosure had a positive effect on sustainability. The results also showed that risk management disclosure had a negative effect on the collaboration of supply chain disclosure and economic sustainability had a negative effect on environmental sustainability, but social sustainability had a positive effect on environmental sustainability. Based on the results of this study, there is a need to improve supply chain security management system and supply chain collaboration in order to advance sustainable poultry industry.

A Feasibility Study for Six Sigma Implementation in Turkish Textile SMEsThis paper aims to investigate the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for the successful introduction of Six Sigma in Small and Medium Sized Turkish Textile Enterprises. A survey-based approach is used in order to identify and understand the current quality practices of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs). CSFs and impeding factors are identified and analyzed. The involvement and commitment of top management, linking quality initiatives to employee and information technology and innovation are found to be important CSFs for textile SMEs. The leadership and commitment of top management, strategic vision, and data collection and measurement, are found to be the most CSFs for the successful introduction of Six Sigma, whereas the lack of knowledge of the system to start the initiative and the presence of ISO-certification in the company are found to hinder its implementation. The lack of qualified personnel and incompetence with new technologies are found to lower the performance of Turkish textile SMEs.

Progress in artificial intelligence and related forms of automation technologies threatens to reverse the gains that developing countries and emerging markets have experienced from integrating into the world economy over the past half century, aggravating poverty and inequality. The new technologies have the tendency to be labor-saving, resource-saving, and to give rise to winner-takes-all dynamics that advantage developed countries. We analyze the economic forces behind these developments and describe economic policies that would mitigate the adverse effects on developing and emerging economies while leveraging the potential gains from technological advances. We also describe reforms to our global system of economic governance that would share the benefits of AI more widely with developing countries.

This article presents a brief overview of the effect of new technologies, how they are changing the manufacturing process, and how the machines are starting to get a lot smarter thanks to the artificial intelligence. The focus is over the examination of Industry 4.0 and how it revolutionized the whole manufacturing segment and what promise of a better, more efficient future it brings. This analysis focuses primarily on how artificial intelligence is integrated, what benefits it brings, and how big of an improvement it is over basic programming. Part of the research is based on 771 publications tracked over the past three to five years. Publications are within some of the well-known databases Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE. We will examine the basic use case scenarios where AI is crucially needed and how a new generation of the factory can look and feel like a living human being. Keywords: Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, predictive maintenance, industrial robotics, computer vision.

Purpose Critical success factors (CSF) for lean six sigma (LSS) using quality 4.0 are not researched so far. This study aims to bridge this gap. It also validates CSF already identified for LSS under conventional technologies. Design methodology approach Empirical research using the questionnaire method is conducted. Construct of the questionnaire is checked using Cronbach’s alpha and responses received are analysed using t-test and exploratory factor analysis. Findings In total, 20 factors are evaluated for LSS success. It includes 7 factors related to quality 4.0 technologies and 13 related to the conventional set-up. All 7 quality 4.0 related factors were found critical; whereas, under traditional set-up, 11 factors out of 13 were found critical. Practical implications The study will help enterprises in the fast and effective adoption of quality 4.0 and seamless integration with LSS. The post-Covid-19 business scenario is expected to be information technology focussed. The findings of this study will be useful in these circumstances. Consultants and practitioners can prioritise their efforts based on newly identified CSF. The new revelation about CSF for LSS in quality 4.0 enriches theory as well. Social implications Developing skills based on newly identified CSF will help people in remaining employable in the era of automation, robotics and artificial intelligence which is otherwise ill-famed for destroying jobs. Originality value CSF for LSS using quality 4.0 is a new contribution. It differentiates CSF established earlier for conventional technologies. Moreover, many CSF are common for LSS and industry 4.0, therefore this study will also help in smoother adoption of industry 4.0/quality 4.0 in organisations.

Contemporary world with constantly increasing speed of change and rapid development of technologies is challenging companies to accustom to existing complexity. This led to the fact that various methodologies change accordingly. Practitioners and researchers are seeking the ways to ameliorate processes using emerging technologies. One of the methodologies is Six Sigma that has always been connected with technologies necessary for data collection and analysis. The emergence of new technologies might benefit or challenge Six Sigma. In this paper an attempt has been performed to analyze the trends in research output of the conjunction of Industry 4.0 technologies and Six Sigma methodology. This paper is based on the bibliometric analysis. In the process of analysis, it was found that the combination of Six Sigma methodology and Industry 4.0 technology has positive potential, however, not all of the technologies have been analyzed.
