Abstract BACKGROUND: The emerging insight into resting-state cortical networks has been important in our understanding of the fundamental architecture of brain organization. These networks, which were originally identified with functional magnetic resonance imaging, are also seen in the correlation topography of the infraslow rhythms of local field potentials. Because of the fundamental nature of these networks and their independence from task-related activations, we posit that, in addition to their neuroscientific relevance, these slow cortical potential networks could play an important role in clinical brain mapping. OBJECTIVE: To assess whether these networks would be useful in identifying eloquent cortex such as sensorimotor cortex in patients both awake and under anesthesia. METHODS: This study included 9 subjects undergoing surgical treatment for intractable epilepsy. Slow cortical potentials were recorded from the cortical surface in patients while awake and under propofol anesthesia. To test brain-mapping utility, slow cortical potential networks were identified with data-driven (seed-independent) and anatomy-driven (seed-based) approaches. With electrocortical stimulation used as the gold standard for comparison, the sensitivity and specificity of these networks for identifying sensorimotor cortex were calculated. RESULTS: Networks identified with a data-driven approach in patients under anesthesia and awake were 90% and 93% sensitive and 58% and 55% specific for sensorimotor cortex, respectively. Networks identified with systematic seed selection in patients under anesthesia and awake were 78% and 83% sensitive and 67% and 60% specific, respectively. CONCLUSION: Resting-state networks may be useful for tailoring stimulation mapping and could provide a means of identifying eloquent regions in patients while under anesthesia.

Abstract: Sampling strategies such as respondent-driven sampling (RDS) and time-location sampling (TLS) offer unique opportunities to access key populations such as men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women. Limited work has assessed implementation challenges of these methods. Overcoming implementation challenges can improve research quality and increase uptake of HIV services among key populations. Drawing from studies using RDS in Brazil and TLS in Peru, we summarize challenges encountered in the field and potential strategies to address them. In Brazil, study site selection, cash incentives, and seed selection challenged RDS implementation with MSM. In Peru, expansive geography, safety concerns, and time required for study participation complicated TLS implementation with MSM and transgender women. Formative research, meaningful participation of key populations across stages of research, and transparency in study design are needed to link HIV/AIDS research and practice. Addressing implementation challenges can close gaps in accessing services among those most burdened by the epidemic.

This research aimed to study the needs of members of farmers District East Ungaran  Semarang  Regency  for  the  development  of  their  farming.  This  research analyzed descriptively by using the approach of PRA  (Participatory Rural Appraisal) approach,  with  the  techniques  of  thematic  mapping,  trends  and  changes,  seasonal calendar,  daily  routine,  livelihood  analysis  and  Venn  Diagram  on  dairy  farmers.Results from the application of each single technique then was discussed in Focused Group  Discussion  (FGD)  attended  by  village  officers  and  extension  worker.  The results of the study can be contained in rank as follows: 1) The activities carried out by members of dairy farmer groups is still traditional. Technologies of seed selection,feed, milking, harvest and post-harvest has not been much progress, yet, 2) Limited knowledge and access to sources of technology, resources, and capital and programs for  both  private  and  government  3)  Limitation  of  production  facilities  and infrastructure,  which  resulted  in  small-scale  livestock  ownership  with  inadequate productivity,  and  4)  Limited  mastery  of  market  information,  both  for  sale  of  the products and purchase of the production factors.

ABSTRACTOver the past decade, various N-Methyl-D-Aspartate modulators have failed in clinical trials, underscoring the challenges of developing novel rapid-acting antidepressants based solely on the receptor or regional targets of ketamine. Thus, identifying the effect of ketamine on the brain circuitry and networks is becoming increasingly critical. In this longitudinal functional magnetic resonance imaging study of data from 265 participants, we used a validated predictive model approach that allows the full assessment of brain functional connectivity, without the need for seed selection or connectivity summaries. First, we identified a connectome fingerprint (CFP) in healthy participants (Cohort A, n=25) during intravenous infusion of a subanesthetic dose of ketamine, compared to normal saline. We then demonstrated the robustness and reproducibility of the discovered Ketamine CFP in two separate healthy samples (Cohort B, n=22; Cohort C, n=18). Finally, we investigated the Ketamine CFP connectivity at 1-week post treatment in major depressive disorder patients randomized to 8 weeks of sertraline or placebo (Cohort D, n=200). We found a significant, robust, and reproducible Ketamine CFP, consistent with reduced connectivity within the primary cortices and within the executive network, but increased connectivity between the executive network and the rest of the brain. Compared to placebo, the Ketamine CFP connectivity changes at 1-week predicted response to sertraline at 8-weeks. In each of Cohort A-C, ketamine significantly increased connectivity in a previously identified Antidepressant CFP. Investigating the brain connectivity networks, we successfully identified a robust and reproducible ketamine biomarker that is related to the mechanisms of antidepressants.Graphical Abstract

Formal and informal seed supply systems of rice (Jumla, Bara and Kaski), finger millet and taro(Kaski) were studied in three ecosites of Nepal during 1999-2001 to understand the processes ofseed flow, seed production, seed selection and storage systems. A survey was conducted at 48 to96 households. Informal seed supply was the only system in Jumla and Kaski and formal systemexisted only in Bara. The main sources of seed were farmer's own saved seed (67-91%), seedfrom neighbors and relatives. Exchange of germplasm was the main basis of fulfillment fromother sources. All farmers obtained seed from their own village, while farmers introducedmaterials occasionally from outside village. Most of the farmers followed seed selection beforeor after crop harvest. Rice field selection and plant selection based on a fixed set of criteria wasthe common practice. Non lodged plants with more grain per panicle, bold grains, well-maturedand uniform plants, long panicle, true to type, good looking grains, free from diseases andinsects were the main rice seed selection criteria. All farmers from both sites stored rice seeds bylocal methods in the locally available containers. Mor and Mudkothi are the special strawcontainers to store rice seed in Bara. Dhara is a special mud structure used to store rice seeds inJumla. Finger millet seed supply system was mostly similar to that of rice seed system. Ninetyone percent farmers saved seed for their own use; however, many of them changed finger milletseeds lots or varieties regularly for their particular plot. Ears selection during harvest by setcriteria for seed purpose was the common practice. Farmers stored finger millet seed carefully insmall locally available containers and tried their best to maintain the quality of seed duringdifferent stage of seed production. Taro has diverse planting materials: cormels, corms witheyes, suckers and corm with small cormels. Taro planting materials management is totallyinformal and almost 89% farmers saved these materials for their use and replaced them mostlyafter 3 years. Farmers had fixed criteria of corms and cormels selection for planting purpose andfocus and more on disease free. Storage of planting materials was locally by using localmaterials and methods.
