The English Department at Högskolan Dalarna, Sweden, participates in a distance-learning program with the Faculty of Education at Vietnam National University. Students who enroll in this program are teachers of English at secondary or tertiary institutions, and will study half time for two years to complete a Master’s degree in English Linguistics. The distance program, adapted specifically to accommodate the Vietnamese students in terms of cultural differences as well as inexperience with distance methodology, is characterized by three design features: testing, technical training, and fostering a community of learners. The design of the courses also reflects a learner-centered approach that addresses common problem areas in distance education by promoting interactivity. Central to the overall program is the maintenance of different channels of communication, reflecting an effort to support the students academically and socially, both as individuals and members of a learning community. In this way, the effects of physical and cultural distances are minimized.

This case study explores an open distance learning program offered by the Information Technology and Computing (ITC) department at AOUJ, a major university in Jordan. It provides an overview of e-learning in the Arab region and explores factors that affect ODL quality in the Arab Open University in Jordan (AOUJ). The research utilized a qualitative approach, which included five lengthy semi-structured interviews with the program director, two instructors, and three students. Three important conclusions can be drawn from the study about e-learning in the Arab region: (1) the existence of adverse conditions, (2) the presence of strong instructional practices, and (3) the need to improve administrative support.

RESEARCH ARTICLE The Effectiveness of Using Critical Concepts and Outcomes in Distance Learning via Darsak Platform during Corona Pandemic in Compensating Students' Educational Loss in AL-Mazar Ash-Shamali Directorate of Education: Teachers' Perspectives Dr: Faisal Saleh Al-Jarrah Part-time lecturer, Irbid National University, Jordan Part-time lecturer, Mu’tah University, Jordan Educational supervisor and expert at Al-Mazar Ash-Shamali Directorate of Education, Jordan Abstract The present study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using critical concepts and outcomes in distance learning via Darsak platform during “covid-19” pandemic in compensating students' educational loss from the perspectives of the teachers in AL-Mazar Ash-Shamali Directorate of Education. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher prepared an electronic questionnaire that consisted of (20) items. The questionnaire was distributed electronically to the sample of the study which consisted of (220) male and female teachers who were randomly chosen from the population of the study. The validity and reliability of the study questionnaire were ensured, and the descriptive analytical approach was used to analyze the data collected. The findings of the study stressed the importance of critical concepts and outcomes used in the distance learning program in compensating the students' educational loss. The findings also revealed that there were no statistically significant differences at (α ≤ 05.0) among the participants towards the use of critical concepts and outcomes in the distance learning program through Darsak Platform in compensating educational loss due to the gender variable. This case study focuses on the experiences of Big State Community College and its progression from a few faculty teaching online courses to a distance learning program that supports greater than 25% of institutional enrollments. This case study presents an evaluation pilot of a technology-enabled service, specifically a distance learning program at a university. The primary intent of the case is to illustrate the management of a trial evaluation of an information technology and the need for explicit criteria considering multiple technical and organizational factors. The secondary purpose of the case is to share the learning specific to the administration and delivery of a distance learning program using various media. The distance learning program was conducted on a trial basis with 16 students in a 13-course, 18-month Master of Science in Technology Management (MSTM) program. Compressed video and Internet-based technologies were used for course delivery, in addition to limited on-site instruction. The case study describes the motivation and progression of the trial, up to the point when a decision had to be made about continuing the program beyond the trial. The experience is considered from multiple perspectives, specifically those of the school administration, faculty, and students. Positive and negative aspects are highlighted to lay the groundwork for analysis at the decision point.

This research sets out to identify cultural factors that may need to be addressed in order to increase the chances of international IT project success. The management of projects across national boundaries and cultures is becoming an increasingly important topic as organizations throughout the world expand their globalization efforts. Using a case study example of a failed IT project conducted in Taiwan by an Australian project team, the issue of how national cultural differences contributed to this failure is used as the foundation for identifying how cultural differences might affect other international IT projects. Feedback from local students in a United Arab Emirates national university MIS project management course is analyzed and interpreted in an attempt to identify what cultural differences are likely to affect the management of projects in the Middle East region in particular and across national boundaries generally.
