Awareness of the centrality of education and training in a knowledge society, the need for Lifelong Learning, and, connected to these, the search for recursive processes between theory and practice, require educators to look for training models suitable for emerging professionals and their development. Specifically, training models appear to be necessary; models that can activate a holistic approach, starting from initial training. Those models should be present in the different training steps (training for pre-service, newly hired and in-service teachers) and could build bridges among the different training steps so that the approach to knowledge and the development of professionality can become a habitus and a deeply-rooted personal drive. Learning paths in which videos are used can ensure those goals. The chapter describes a university training path for pre-service primary teachers in which class video recordings are used as binding objects whose discussion involves students, university professors and school teachers. Such process proposes Lifelong Learning also as interaction among different training levels.

The article aims to report the pedagogical journey of the essence of the reflection of the theory and practice of initial training students, by gender, based on the development of the training plan and educational experiences in pre-professional practices. The objective is to analyze the effectiveness, impact and transfer of the university training process in pedagogical practice. The methodology used was qualitative, based on the beliefs of the students to arrive at subjective theories. An interview and the focus group technique were used. The analysis took place around career choice, teacher orientation, satisfaction, teacher performance, change of conceptions, finding ten common categories. We end by extrapolating the need for accompaniment, the relationship between theory and practice; the preference and greater opportunities for the female gender; These findings make it possible to contribute to the resignification of pedagogical conceptions, approaches and practice models.

One of the most current issues facing modern pedagogical theory and practice is distance learning. Since the Covid-19 virus pandemic outbreak, this specific teaching context has become the only hope for education systems globally. Given the role and importance that distance learning has today, our paper is focused on studying its barriers in immediate secondary school practice. This research is part of a broader study that involves a more thorough study of distance learning, which was conducted on a sample of 422 students and 120 secondary school teachers in Southeast Serbia. The aim of this paper is to identify the most common barriers to distance learning and answer the question of whether there are differences in the attitudes of teachers and students about the barriers they encountered during the first months of its implementation. In terms of frequency, the results of the conducted research show that evaluation-related barriers are the most common, while the learning material and technical barriers to distance learning are the least common ones. The research has shown that teachers statistically more often highlight evaluation-related, organizational/administrative and social/emotional barriers, while in practice, students more often experience learning content-related barriers. The results also confirm positive correlation in the participants’ attitudes about the analyzed barriers and directly point to the conclusion about their objective perception and critical reflection on this problem by emphasizing the importance of didactic elements such as: quality of the teaching process, level of knowledge acquired, objectivity of assessment, etc. in relation to the learning material and technical side of teaching. These conclusions point to a number of pedagogical implications by which the new, specific teaching context can be significantly improved.

Public libraries play a crucial role in the information and knowledge society. Their access and services in the fourth industrial revolution require review as well as the knowledge of the competency requirements for Library and Information Science (LIS) graduates to offer professional services. This paper presents the competencies LIS graduates require for work. It also seeks to examine the challenges they encounter in public libraries. The study is driven by the notion that a skills gap and a lack of training for LIS professionals are still daunting challenges in most public libraries. The post-positivism paradigm was employed through the triangulation of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in data collection and analysis. Content analysis and a survey were employed as research methods. The study scanned job advertisements in four newspapers spanning a three-year period (from January 2015 to December 2017). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with assistant directors and structured questionnaires were administered to LIS graduates. Grade 12, one to three years of work experience, computer literacy and communication skills are the most required competencies to work at public libraries. There seems to be no balance between theory and practice offered in most LIS schools, which suggests the need for curricula revision. Employed LIS graduates are facing several challenges, which include lack of practical exposure or knowledge, lack of qualification recognition and individual promotions, and lack of ICT skills and knowledge.

The core issue of this paper is a quality in the lifelong learning. The aim of the contribution is to describe the area, level and dimensions of quality in a wide range of lifelong learning programs, respectively of further education, which are realized in the sense of § 60 and 60a of the Higher Education Act. The content of the paper also focuses on the theoretical and practical starting points of the quality phenomenon, both from the historical point of view and especially from the perspective of the current focus and concept of university policy in the European and Czech region. The paper also presents the results of a survey focusing on approaches to the quality assurance systems in the concept of components at selected public university.

The Oxford Handbook of Lifelong Learning is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary examination of the theory and practice of lifelong learning, encompassing perspectives from human resources development, adult learning, psychology, career and vocational learning, management and executive development, cultural anthropology, the humanities, and gerontology. Individual chapters address the most relevant topics on the subject, including: continuous learning as it relates to technological, economic, and organizational changes; developmental theories and research, models of lifelong learning, and the neurological bases for learning across the lifespan; examples of learning programs, tools, and technologies, with a focus on corporate programs and business education; international perspectives on lifelong learning and learning across cultures; and assessment of learning needs and outcomes.

AbstractA learner-centred approach puts students amidst the learning process and helps them become involved in that process. It provides an opportunity for students to choose and direct the course of the lesson. This approach is especially appropriate when dealing with ethical concerns that might be sensitive issues. When it comes to the sources for the development of teaching materials, the Internet provides numerous possibilities. Not only does it enable students to choose from a wide variety of topics but it also offers, for both teachers and students, a chance to develop their own up-to-date materials through which students improve their language skills. Nonetheless, teachers can help their students to become more autonomous and develop strategies for lifelong learning. The aim of this article is to provide ideas on materials development for teaching English as a foreign language to students of medicine and health studies and to link theory and practice in the Slovak context. Specifically, it focuses on how topics in medical ethics, such as organ transplant and euthanasia, could be taught by emphasizing the learner-centred approach. Involving the student in the learning process and using the Internet as an easily accessible source enables students to develop their skills and strategies, which will help them become more autonomous, and thus develop their confidence in dealing with authentic English outside the classroom.

The arrival of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has stimulated teachers and universities to change in some ways the teaching methodologies. The success of these massive courses is based on involving students to acquire knowledge and skills in a wider community by learning from others and using active learning practices. MOOC providers also help universities to support the mission of transferring knowledge to society in any kind of area, supporting lifelong learning and adopting some kind of internationalization strategy. This is an ongoing trend where 17 of top 30 universities in the world's adopted MOOC courses. Open learning is a strategic and valuable trend in knowledge society. Opportunities appear in the Anglo and Latin American market, while problems associated with the high drop-out rate, the sustainability, and the feasibility of skill certification should be addressed. In this paper we analyze the properties of a MOOC as a learning community by taking data from a pilot of three MOOC courses performed at AbiertaUGR, the MOOC platform of the University of Granada.
