MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) have gained popularity for e-learning purposes. Effectiveness of a MOOC depends on the platform interface design and management, which should create student cohesiveness and optimize collaboration. A MOOC prototype was developed and e-learning applications were pilot-tested for one semester with a total of 160 students from graduate courses in a French business school. Students used a mobile supported e-learning environment and reported their experiences through the writing of a synthesis, the building of a CMS (Content Management System) and the elaboration of a content curation system.

The Institute of Educational Policy, seeking to realize inclusive policies and practices planned the project: “Design and Development of Universally Accessible Educational Material.” Its objectives are the development of universally designed digital educational materials for nursery primary and secondary school students with disabilities or special educational needs. The project focuses on developing new open source digital educational material and software for special education in Greece, adopting and using the popular platform OpenEdX of asynchronous e-learning that allows the organization of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), aimed at distance learning and training of the teachers of general and special education.

Most of physics teachers in Purworejo Regency use conventional teaching media. This is due to the lack of understanding and information about the latest It-based teaching media. They need new breakthroughs and methods to improve the quality of physics learning, especially those related to the development of teaching media. Therefore CMS (Content Management System) web exe and Arduino-based training needs analysis are conducted for Purworejo Regency physics teachers. This effort are tested by research descriptions are by giving questionnaires to respondents. The results showed that Purworejo district physics teachers needed continuous and periodic training with guided monitoring and needed training related to the latest IT-based teaching media such as e learning and microcontroller-based teaching media such as Arduino.

Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) uncovers a new learning space for students to start their learning in multidisciplinary subjects and provides an enormous storage for different types of learning materials. This brings not only the ease and flexibility to our learning, but also the challenges in organizing, managing, and controlling of information which is indispensable to the design of an effective online learning system. In particular, Music Information Retrieval (MIR) is an interdisciplinary science on the process of retrieving information from music related resources. Due to the unique application characteristics and various forms of music, appropriate design and application of metadata plays an important role for the MIR in such a Content Management System (CMS) as it would affect the comprehensiveness and effectiveness of the music information retrieval process. In this paper, the authors propose their ontology-based metadata scheme to address such requirements of a music VLE, based on the Dublin Core with modifications according to specific nature of the music learning materials. The metadata design of music resources aims to support students' daily music learning by providing instant and appropriate learning materials which enables cross-collection searching and enhances the sustainability of the contents over time.

Teaching and learning computer programming is as challenging as it is difficult. Assessing the work of students and providing individualised feedback is time-consuming and error prone for teachers and frequently involves a time delay. The existent tools prove to be insufficient in domains where there is a greater need to practice. At the same time, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) are appearing, revealing a new way of learning. However, this paradigm raises serious questions regarding the monitoring of student progress and its timely feedback. This chapter provides a conceptual design model for a computer programming learning environment. It uses the portal interface design model, gathering information from a network of services such as repositories, program evaluators, and learning management systems, a central piece in the MOOC realm. This model is not limited to the domain of computer programming and can be adapted to any area that requires evaluation with immediate feedback.

This chapter explores a novel learning content management system. This chapter presents a novel system based on integration of voice authentication, face recognition technique, and signature of a person to recognize in e-learning system. Voice-based authentication, face recognition, and signature of a person is most widely used to authenticate human identity. The main concern in an e-learning system is to demotivate unknown users from taking the examination in place of the learner. Different techniques have been introduced to stop this fraud if any unknown person wants to imitate person's identity. In order to avoid the fraudulent handling of e-learning systems, the authentication based on voice recognition is discussed as one of the efficient techniques in literature.

In the past, focus of e-learning researches was mostly on technologies and materials which are directly related with learning environment such as learning management system (LMS), content management system (CMS), course contents etc. However, after emergence of big data concept, direction of researches has shifted to extract the hidden knowledge to be used by decision makers. Thus, user habits, content quality, LMS/CMS qualifications and many other issues can be improved using data stored in e-learning environment. When it comes to analyzing LMS side, Google Analytics is one of the best tools to examine performance and also to improve e-learning services. In this study, it is aimed to observe changes in user habits between 2011 and 2016 using Google Analytics data of Enocta Academic Education Platform which offers course content and LMS services for organizations and universities in Turkey. Thus, it is aimed to give advices to LMS providers in terms of improving their software considering changes in user habits. Also, different ways of improving e-learning services are discussed.
