Organizations have adopted business intelligence solutions with a mixed degree of benefits. Some businesses highlight significant outcomes, while others identify limitations or shortfalls in the benefits derived. Notably, the alignment of business strategy with the adoption of business intelligence processes has been an important predictor of firms being able to achieve organizational wide benefits. The chapter uses a case study approach to document the informational needs achieved through aligning organizational strategy and the adoption of business intelligence solution at two distinct companies. The adoption approaches used by each firm, although different, reflect the important areas in which business intelligence is most useful—strategic alignment, governance, and information presentation.

The paper used the case study approach to report on how a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company developed their Business Intelligence strategy. Many companies are aware of the benefits that Business Intelligence brings to the corporation— however struggle to have an appropriate or well defined strategy. The authors document in the paper how the company experienced limited benefits with their initial Business Intelligence implementation— however, the subsequent development of a Business Intelligence strategy allowed the firm to redress initial project short-comings across several business areas. The company's Business Intelligence strategy included elements that directly addressed governance and resource management, business technology alignment, innovation and skills capability. The research investigated the experiences of a global FMCG company regarding their Business Intelligence use and the findings may not be generalizable.

Outsourcing, which is a popular business strategy among large companies, is also an attractive option for small entities. However, in order to bring expected results, outsourcing requires knowledge of potential risks and ability of managing them. Even large companies need to face various outsourcing challenges, however, at least they dispose richer resources than small organizations and their success is less dependent on single product delivery. Therefore the aim of the research was to examine the reasons of failure of outsourcing initiatives in SMEs. The authors followed the qualitative approach based on case study method. The obtained results brought contributions in both areas: theoretical as the issue of outsourcing initiatives in SMEs has been analysed to a limited extent; as well as practical because it brought important insight for managers by indicating risks of that they should be aware and properly prepared. The findings indicated the importance of: strategic planning on outsourcing initiative and the development and maintenance of close relations of outsourcing companies with its vendor. Key words: case study, outsourcing in SME, outsourcing challenges, small companies.

This article explores the implications of micro-celebrity practices employed by political and ideological influencers on YouTube. I take a case study approach, performing a content analysis of the videos from three political YouTubers from January 1, 2017, to April 1, 2018. My analysis reveals that for these influencers, micro-celebrity practices are not only a business strategy but also a political stance that positions them as more credible than mainstream media. All three conflate the mainstream media with “social justice” politics, claiming both are sensationalized and silence dissenting voices. By adopting micro-celebrity practices that stress relatability, authenticity, and accountability, they differentiate themselves from both the mainstream media and progressive politics as they perceive them. Thus, the YouTubers in this study align micro-celebrity practices with a reactionary political standpoint. These findings complicate previous mythologies of Internet celebrity that treat participatory culture as inherently progressive.
