This chapter provides an overview of case study methodology and its applications in writing case studies. The reader is introduced to the specific procedures that are implemented when developing a case study for educational purposes. The methodology discussed here is comprised of three parts: secondary data analysis (external and internal sources), qualitative data collection and analysis (e.g., in-depth interviews and observation technique), and quantitative data collection and analysis (e.g., surveys and questionnaires). After describing each method, the authors provide specific examples from published business cases to cement reader's understanding of how to successfully develop that method.

This research adopts a qualitative approach with case study methodology. Data collection is done through carrying out interview with informants such as branch manager, financial manager, marketing staffs and several donators of Baitul Maal Hidayatullah. Secondary data comes under the form of documents pertaining to the practice performed by Baitul Maal Hidayatullah. The pattern matching technique is then used to compare patterns based on empirics with the predicted patterns. Cash waqf funds are collected through direct and indirect means. The collection of cash waqf funds by Baitul Maal Hidayatullah are in accordance with the procedures set out by Badan Wakaf Indonesia which are, analysis of needs, waqif profile identification, the product of waqf, and the transactional cost. The distribution of cash waqf funds by Baitul Maal Hidayatullah are in accordance with what has been ordained by the Direktorat Pemberdayaan Wakaf, which includes, waqf distribution for education and social services.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between empathy and social responsibility (SR) practices in a university organization in Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Design/methodology/approach The research was qualitative, using case study methodology. The case study was about the Brazilian organization Ânima Educação, which is the greatest among the five largest publicly traded education companies in Brazil. Secondary data collection and content analysis was carried out. Findings As emotional response toward the problems caused by the pandemic, the company's leadership adopted an empathic behavior, allowing traces of its empathic culture to emerge. Empathy was expressed through the implementation of SR practices aimed at workers (policy of not firing in the first two months of the pandemic), at students (provision of technological apparatus, online classes, physical/psychological assistance and negotiation of late fees) and at the society (assistance to the elderly). Originality/value It was concluded that empathy can be taken as the emotional motivator for companies to engage in SR practices, especially in extreme circumstances in society, as the economic and health challenges that the world is experiencing with the COVID-19 pandemic nowadays. SR practices, in turn, can foster even more empathy in organizations, mobilizing leaders and their respective groups in the creation and implementation of new practices, thus demonstrating that the relationship between empathy and SR practices is a “two-way street.”

The aim of this study is to identify the factors that influence the involvement of individuals in social entrepreneurship in Poland from an institutional economics perspective. The research is based on exploratory data analysis using qualitative data covering 22 interviews with social entrepreneurs and 10 representatives of stakeholders from Poland as well as observations and secondary data. By employing an inductive approach and a case study methodology, it can be stated that involvement of social entrepreneurs is stimulated by a complex set of factors. Moreover, the results show the importance of the institutional environment for social enterprises in Poland, including the impact of formal and informal institutions on their development. The findings contribute to enhancing the knowledge on factors determining the establishment and development of social enterprises in Poland given the institutional economics perspective.

Purpose This study aims to offer a better understanding of supply side of bribery and corruption in an international business perspective by conceptualizing it in the narrower concept of misconduct in business (MIB) derived from the deontological perspective to business ethics. Design/methodology/approach The authors use a case study methodology of professionals working within Canadian mining multinational corporations operating in Africa. The authors conducted 2 focus groups, 25 in-depth interviews, document search and an open-ended questionnaire to 15 professionals. Further, they drew on a combination of the classic relationalist sociological framework and its recent revision, that they named the relationalism-substantialism framework to analyze the data. Findings The triangulated empirical data show that the reason why MIB in the form of bribery supply occurs is not exclusively tied to any given perspective, whether the individual, the organization or the wider societal context. Rather, these different layers are tightly intertwined and interact with each other for the supply of bribery to occur. Originality/value Although the three siloed perspectives of MIB have been studied in the literature, they have not been addressed in relation to one another, and even less with a relationalism-substantialism framework. Yet, this perspective contributes compellingly to the understanding of the supply side in bribery. The authors propose a net of conceptually related constructs that intervene in the process of bribery supply occurrence, namely relationality influenced by institutional dysfunctionality and conflation and substantiality through agency and culture.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the theory and implementation of dual branding. The authors explore whether dual branding is a positive choice for two hotel brands belonging to the same firm and operating under the same roof, in this case, a Wyndham and a Wyndham Garden branded property. Design/methodology/approach A case study methodology was employed. In-depth interviews were conducted with managers regarding their decisions and implementation of a dual branding strategy. Findings The authors reveal the organizational, operational, technical, marketing, financial, economic and technological challenges experienced before, during and after the dual branding transition. Moreover, they reveal the results of the implementation and its consequences to the hotel and its customers. A conceptual model is presented with the goal of assisting and facilitating the investigation, analysis, choice and implementation of dual branding by hoteliers. Originality/value The present research expands the existing body of knowledge, bridges the theory and practice of branding in the lodging sector, advances dual branding theory and provides insightful implications for scholars and managers alike.

Urban planning plays a crucial role in rethinking the relationships between cities and ecosystems. Environmental ethics can provide a framework for rethinking these relationships. However, the integration of urban planning and environmental ethics in the literature has not been extensive. Their integration is crucial because city planning is influenced by the ethical perspectives of decision-makers. This article uses a case study methodology to explore whether and how environmental ethics informs urban planning. Urban planners from four Australian councils were interviewed. Thematic analysis of these in-depth interviews as well as of relevant planning documents for each council was conducted. The article focuses on the key finding that the perceptions of urban planners and planning processes were mainly driven by an anthropocentric rather than a non-anthropocentric environmental ethic. The article concludes by offering recommendations and a guide as to how these topics can be researched in the future.

Diarrhea is still a public health problem in developing countries such as Indonesia because morbidity and mortality rates are still high in these areas. A morbidity survey conducted by the Diarrhea Department of the Ministry of Health in Indonesia between 2000 and 2010 shows rising incidences of diarrhea in children. In 2000, Incidence Rate (IR) diarrhea incidents occurred in 301/1000 members of the population, and this increased to 411/1000 in 2010. Cases of diarrhea have become dangerous when suffered by infants because the mortality rate will increase because weaker immunity than olders. Environmental factors such as water, waste, and toilet contribute greatly to cases of diarrhea; therefore, in this research, we analyze environmental characteristics’ effects on the incidence of diarrhea in infants in Palembang. This study uses a mixed-method design combining quantitative data collection using secondary data from the Department of Health with qualitative data collection using in-depth interviews of Palembang’s local government and health center personnel in the districts with the highest and lowest cases of diarrhea. Quantitative data analysis are visualized in the form of a map, while qualitative data are analyzed using content analysis. The results show that Ilir Timur I has the highest incidences of diarrhea while the Sako district has the lowest. Based on the results of the analysis, Ilir Timur I has more cases of diarrhea largely because of its non-working area health centers. Sako has the fewest cases of diarrhea because the clinics, doctors, and midwives in private practice in the region of Sako do not report the cases, as well as because of factors related to access remote health centers. Therefore, interventions based on health data for diarrhea need to be restyled for a drastic reduction of diarrhea cases. Keywords: Area, diarrhea, children, characteristic, environment, data

This research aims to find out the role of At-Taqwa mosque in Simorejo Surabaya towards the community. It uses qualitative approach with descriptive case study methodology. The researcher used purposive technique for data collection to determine the informant. Based on the technique, the researcher obtained seven informants which were the head of takmir, and six mosque jamaah from At-Taqwa Simorejo Surabaya. The data collection was done bydoing observation, documentation, and in-depth interview. The analysis of the data was done by using interactive model which were data reduction, data display and drawing the conclusion.The result is At-Taqwa Simorejo mosque has a big role in social empowerment because the community is involved in productive process which is based on equality and security, sustainability and cooperation which can run simultaneously so that prosperity can be achieved.

As pousadas são meios de hospedagem de pequeno porte, com um atendimento mais personalizado, e muitas vezes realizado diretamente pelos seus proprietários. Porém, independentemente do tamanho e da capacidade de um meio de hospedagem, ele pode investir em uma oferta de lazer, da mais simples, com algumas atividades, até a mais completa, com estrutura de equipamentos e serviços que buscam atender as expectativas de lazer dos hóspedes, contribuindo com isso para uma valoração de mercado. Esta pesquisa é um estudo de caso, com dados coletados em pesquisa bibliográfica, em artigos publicados sobre o tema, e entrevistas estruturadas, que através de dois métodos, quali-quantitativos, de coleta e análise de dados, teve como objetivo analisar a oferta de lazer das pousadas da Rota do Lambari, em Porto União, SC, os serviços e os equipamentos que estão sendo oferecidos aos hóspedes. Como resultado se observou uma oferta de lazer grande e variada na maioria delas, e uma oferta não focada somente no pescador, mas que atende a toda a família e outros hóspedes que não exercem a pesca. O lazer em pousadas de pesca: um estudo de caso na Rota do Lambari, Porto União (SC) ABSTRACT The lodges are small lodging facilities, with a more personalized service, and often performed directly by its owners. However, regardless of the size and capacity of a host resource, it can invest in a range of leisure, the simplest, with some activities to the fullest, with equipment structure and services that aim to meet the leisure expectations guests, a contributing factor to a market valuation. This research is a case study, with data collected in literature, in articles published on the subject, and structured interviews, which through two methods, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, aimed to analyze the supply of leisure, hotels and Rota do Lambari, in the city of Porto União, SC, services and equipment that are being offered to guests. As a result it was observed offered a large and varied leisure in most of them, and not focused only offer the fisherman, but that caters to the whole family and other guests not engaged in fishing. <p>Research focusing on co-creation experience in tourism has seen a significant increase in the last decade considering its importance as a basis for experiential value creation and future innovation. Co-creation experience concept is deeply related to food tourism because this type of tourism is about experiencing food and its associations with environments and people. The idea of foodscape is widely used in many studies to understand the connections between food, environments, and people. However, the ideas remain limited to be found in tourism studies in particular food tourism. Thus, investigating the linkage between the concepts of co-creation experience and foodscape is an interesting area of research. As such, this thesis aims to investigate how co-creation experience influences and creates foodscape in a food tourism destination. This research uses Yogyakarta, Indonesia as a basis to explore the construct of foodscape, co-creation tourism experience components that contribute to shaping foodscape, and how these components influence and create foodscape.  The literature on food experience in tourism, co-creation experience, food tourism, and foodscape lays the theoretical foundation for this research. This research uses case study methodology and is based on collections of secondary data, observations, and interviews with food tourism suppliers and international tourists. The findings of this study are divided into three key areas. First, this study identifies five foodscape constructs: tangible and intangible environments, social interactions, food quality, price, and divergence. Second, the co-creation experience that shape foodscape is divided into three components: engagement, personalization, and co-production. It finds that these components center on experience environment and experience involvement. Third, this study finds that each co-creation experience components influence and create foodscape through new food offerings inventions, authenticity seeking, and attraction, facilities, and activities.  This research contributes to understanding the dynamic nature of foodscape and the components of co-creation experience in the context of food tourism. It also develops our understanding of connections between co-creation experience and foodscape of the food tourism destination. As such, for academia, the research result can be used as a cornerstone for further studies in the related fields. Then, for practitioners, the findings may be useful to manage the construction of foodscape through co-creation experience.</p>
