Surfacing Occupational Threats to IT-Enabled Change

While the business press is awash with claims that investing in information technology (IT) is the key to delivering superior economic performance, unfortunately, it appears that reaping the benefits of IT investments is fraught with difficulty. Indeed, the introduction of IT into work organisations is generally marred with persistent reports of underperformance and failure. This chapter critiques the nature of this dilemma and, in particular, explores the role of diverse occupational groups in its perpetuation over time. Executive management tend to view the introduction of IT as an economic imperative while IT specialists tend to view it as a technical imperative. The coalescent nature of these two imperatives is such that the human and organisational aspects of IT related change are frequently marginalized and ignored. Achieving a more integrated approach to the introduction of IT is inordinately difficult since the narrow perspectives embraced by the executive and IT communities do not naturally attend to change in an integrated manner.

While the business press is awash with claims that investing in enterprise-wide systems is the key to delivering superior economic performance, unfortunately it appears that reaping the benefits of such IT investments is fraught with difficulty. Indeed, the introduction of IT into work organisations is generally marred with persistent reports of underperformance and failure. This chapter critiques the nature of this dilemma and in particular explores the role of diverse occupational groups in its perpetuation over time. This dilemma is sustained over time by the behavioral patterns of diverse occupational groups that have vested but divergent, interests in exploiting IT.

Over time, this type of cooperative business slowly begins to lose its existencedue to increasingly fierce business competition. This is because the role ofcooperatives, which is identical to the provision of basic foodstuffs for theneeds of the community, has now been taken over by the existence ofsupermarkets both in cities and in the regions. This is due to the influence ofthe industrial technology revolution 4.0 which requires business people tocontinue to be able to improve services and offer technology-basedconvenience so that it has an impact on customer satisfaction. This literaturereview aims to describe the role of the use of information technology systemsfor accounting for primary cash receipts and disbursements in cooperatives.

Throughout much of the last five decades the process of introducing, integrating, and exploiting information technology in work organizations has posed formidable challenges regularly resulting in reports of significant underperformance and failure. On closer inquiry it emerges that such underperformance and failure are firmly rooted in an inability to foster a highly integrated approach to the management of IT-enabled business change. This paper critiques in detail both the enduring and deep-rooted nature of this dilemma paying particular attention to the role of diverse occupational communities in its perpetuation through time. Furthermore, it explicates the polarized patterns of cognition and action embedded in these communities paying particular attention to the executive, information technology, and organization development communities. Finally, it presents a robust critique of the manner in which academic formation within these occupational communities firmly reinforces such polarized patterns of behaviour thereby sustaining the enduring dilemma with IT-enabled business change.

This impacted on the existence of a reference collection which was originally a reference to help information seekers find information about certain information may be eroded over time due to the emergence of media presence online references. The difficulty in using several reference collections such as dictionaries, directory, ensiclopedy, map etc. inversely proportional to the ease offered by products launched by companies such as Google, Yahoo, AltaVista and Lycos. A nationwide investigation into stress among teachers in the United Kingdom, found teachers to be reporting stress-related problems which were far higher than those of the population norms and other comparable occupational groups. Job stress can be influenced by personal factors (Matteson & Ivancevich, 1999). The present study examined the role of demographic variables as the moderator between organizational variables and job stress. A sample size of 177 teachers participated in this study revealed that teachers in Tawau and Lahad Datu experienced low stress levels. This study found that demographic variables do not serve as the moderator between organizational variables and job stress.
