Mobile SNS from the Perspective of Human Self-Extension

Mobile social networking services (MoSNS) are a yet unexplored environment for human networked socialization. By introducing the concept of self-extension in this chapter, we emphasize the necessity for a human participant to materialize his or her daily pursuits that are partially realized through virtual communication and interaction. We argue that mobile social networking services potentially best fit each participant’s self-extension desire as compared to personal-computer-based ones by describing and analyzing the state of the art of mobile social networking services in Japan and discussing mobile SNS peculiarities to support our view. Further, we envision the emerging of new mobile multimedia with the evolution of mobile SNS and discuss challenges and issues that have to be addressed in order to realize a mobile social networking breakthrough.

Due to the social networking relationship, users’ continuance of social networking sites (SNS) may receive social influence from their peers and referents. This research identified the effect of social support on social influence in mobile SNS. Social support consists of both informational support and emotional support. Social influence is reflected by three factors: subjective norm, social identity and group norm. The results suggested that social support has a significant effect on social influence. The results imply that service providers need to build a supportive climate in order to facilitate social influence and users’ continuance usage.

Facilitating users' continuance usage and retaining them are crucial to the success of mobile social networking sites (SNS). Drawing on both perspectives of network externality and flow, this research examined the factors affecting mobile SNS continuance usage. Network externality includes two factors: referent network size and perceived complementarity, which represent direct externality and indirect externality, respectively. The results indicated that both factors of network externality have significant effects on flow, which further affects satisfaction and continuance usage. The results imply that service providers need to deliver a positive network externality and an engaging experience in order to facilitate users' continuance usage.

The cloud computing model inherently enables information from social networking services (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and so forth), context-based systems (location, activity, interests, etc.) and personal applications (call logs, contacts, email, calendar, and so forth) to be harnessed for multiple purposes. This article presents an agent-based system architecture for semantic and semi-automated applications that utilize the cloud to enrich and simplify communication services, for instance by displaying presence information, prioritizing information, and dynamically managing groups of users. The proposed architecture is based on the concept of aggregated social graphs, which are created from harnessed information about how people communicate. This article also presents challenges in achieving the envisioned architecture and introduces early prototyping results.

This article contends that due to the intense competition, it is crucial for mobile social networking services (SNS) providers to retain users and facilitate their continuance. Integrating both perspectives of social capital and privacy concern, this research examined mobile SNS continuance. Social capital includes three dimensions: structural capital, relational capital and cognitive capital. The results indicated that both social capital and privacy concerns have significant effects on continuing usage. The results imply that service providers need to develop social capital and curb privacy concerns in order to facilitate users' continuance usage of mobile SNS.

This chapter examines the effects of perceived information quality, perceived system quality, and perceived flow on mobile Social Networking Sites (SNS) users' trust. Pearson correlations via SPSS 21.0 computer program was used for data analysis as it has the ability to ensure the consistency of the model with the data, to provide information necessary to scrutinize the study hypotheses, and to estimate associations among constructs. Each correlation coefficient was assessed as significant at the 0.01 level, and the overall model was determined to fit the data well as multicollinearity was absent. In terms of the associations with perceived user trust, perceived flow had highest significant positive correlation coefficients, followed by perceived information quality and perceived system quality. Next, further investigation of the study encountered that perceived flow is significantly associated by both perceived system quality and perceived information quality of mobile SNS, respectively. The chapter concludes with directions for future research.

Purpose – Social networking services (SNS) sites such as Facebook and Twitter have increasingly established themselves as a new paradigm of communication. Due to the rapid popularization of mobile devices, mobile SNS are creating a particularly significant change in the way in which information is distributed. The purpose of this paper is to propose a mobile SNS system tailored for archival information services (AIS) in South Korea. Design/methodology/approach – In order to find an appropriate service structure for the proposed AIS system, the authors conduct a case study of the existing mobile SNS sites. In addition to this, the authors investigate how mobile SNS are currently used in libraries and archives. Based on the results, they propose a mobile SNS structure suitable for the AIS system, for which a user interface and database is designed and implemented. Findings – The proposed system can leverage mobile SNS to expand the accessibility of AIS and encourage active participation and cooperation from users. Originality/value – The proposed system can improve the security vulnerabilities inherent in Facebook and Twitter; further, it can induce active user participation through two-way communication channels with users and also produce high-quality information by providing a communication space between the archiving experts.

Human life has been greatly changed by the explosive growth of the internet and social media. This paper explores the factors affecting the individual information disclosure and usage continuance intention on mobile social networking services. Therefore, this study is aimed to test hypothesesrelated to the proposed calculus theory rather than generate new hypotheses. Therefore, the present research study is deductive in nature and thus is consistent with the positivism paradigm. The present study intends to adopt a quantitative research strategy using a structured survey questionnaire. Questionnaires are prepared on a five-pointLikert scale and distributed to 180 individuals in the Klang Valley in Malaysia. Indeed, the opinions of the respondents are different from each other a non-probability sampling tool has been used. The results of the study were analyzed by Pearson correlation tests and indicate that several parameters are highly significant, including privacy concerns, perceived risk, information sensitivity, reliable beliefs, perceived usefulness, and relationships for disclosure. The information mentioned that the respondents notice in the disclosure of information and their intention to use it. Three factors, such as privacy concern, perceived risk, and information sensitivity, are associated negatively with significance towards the information discloser among the users of the mobile apps in social networks in Malaysia. The other three factors, such as trusting beliefs, perceived usefulness, and relationship building, are positively associated with information disclosure.
