Augmented Reality for Collaborative Assembly Design in Manufacturing Sector

Some speculations regarding the current issues existing in current assembly work have been brought out in this chapter. The theoretical basis behind the idea that Augmented Reality systems could provide cognitive support and augmentation is established. Hence, this chapter analyses the foundations for assembly feasibility evaluation and discusses possible innovative ways to provide an efficient and robust solution for these problems of realism and efficiency in design and assembly processes. The proposed platform considers the multiple dependencies in different manufacturing sectors that allow the work to be conducted in a simultaneous way, rather than sequential order.

This paper discusses the design modification issue in a collaborative assembly (co-assembly) design environment, which enables multiple geographically dispersed designers to design and assemble parts collaboratively and synchronously through the Internet. An assembly representation model, viz. feature-based hierarchical co-assembly representation, is proposed to resolve the co-assembly design issues. In order to realize the design modification, a design modification propagation control mechanism is proposed. A system framework that is suitable for realizing the design modification is also proposed and developed. Finally, the detailed design modification propagation control mechanism is demonstrated through a case study.

The paper aims to investigate the reasons why Augmented Reality (AR) has not fully broken the industrial market yet, or found a wider application in industries. The main research question the paper tries to answer is: what are the factors (and to what extent) that are limiting AR? Firstly, a reflection on the state of art of AR applications in industries is proposed, to discover the sectors more commonly chosen for deploying the technology so far. Later, based on a survey conducted after that, three AR applications have been tested on manufacturing, automotive, and railway sectors, and the paper pinpoints key aspects that are conditioning its embedding in the daily working life. In order to compare whether the perception of employees from railway, automotive, and manufacturing sectors differs significantly, a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) has been used. Later, suggestions are formulated in order to improve these aspects in the industry world. Finally, the paper indicates the main conclusions, highlighting possible future researches to start.

According to the characteristics of the design process of top-down collaborative assembly design, process planning dynamic model based on HOOPN (hierarchical object-oriented Petri-net) is constructed for top-down collaborative assembly design. The outside and inside task dependent relationships among the task groups include parallel, sequence and coupling are implemented. The definitions of attribute for each element and the activation rules are presented for Petri-net. The fuzzy overall evaluation model is applied for risk evaluation of design process, and the local and global risk level is determined. The whole process planning is adjusted and controlled based on special risk decision-making mechanism.

Objective - This study's aim is to identifies the minimum wage policy implementation and its impact on SMEs in Malaysia. It addresses the question of the level of SME's awareness and their readiness towards the implementation of the policy and improving productivity. The paper analyses the income patterns of women workers employed in the urban manufacturing sector of Pakistan. It examines the wage differentials across regions, manufacturing sectors and industrial categories including large scale factories, small-scale enterprises and home based work. The central conclusion is that wages of women workers across sectors and industry size vary because of differences in the capital-labour ratio and hence labour productivity. The paper determines the proportion of women earning above and below the legally mandated minimum wage, which differs significantly across formal and informal industries. Finally, the earnings of workers have been examined in the context of human capital accumulation.

The Manufacturing sector is an essential sector for developing economies as well as developed economies. It contributes to every aspect of the economy regarding its contribution to gross domestic product and employment generation. The present study is to examine the growth of the manufacturing sector of Uttarakhand. The secondary data used in the study was collected from the central statistical office and states economics and statistics departments to estimate manufacturing sectors’ contribution. The Kendall Tau and sen’s estimator are used to find the trend in the manufacturing sector’s contribution to nominal and real gross state domestic product of Uttarakhand. The study shows that the growth of Uttarakhand’s manufacturing sector was higher in Phase I (base year 2004-05) estimation, while the growth rate of the manufacturing sector of Uttarakhand was lower in Phase II (base year 2011-12) estimation. During the study period, the growth of the manufacturing sector shows a decreasing trend in Uttarakhand’s real and nominal Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) in Phase I, while it was stable during Phase II.
