Information System Life Cycle

The chapter discusses the IS life cycle phases of IS design/development, adoption, use, evaluation, and management. These standard topics in the IS field are framed in the IVO perspective. A model of IS life cycle is used for analyzing the case of a system for customer relations management in a telecommunications company. Historical variation and drifts in the IS management leading to the system's marginalization are explored. The chapter also demonstrates how IVO furnishes analytical devices for extending analysis of teaching and research cases on information systems.

The main purpose of the IVO framework refers to study and management of IS. This chapter discusses the IS issues that are standard topics in study of IS (Management Information Systems and similar areas). These are IS design/development, adoption, evaluation, management, and use. These IS life cycle stages interact with IVO aspects, such as infopolitics and infoculture. Understanding this whole process rather than just a single step is necessary for effective research and management. An extensive case study is discussed to demonstrate these ideas. It is also shown how the IVO perspective can deepen teaching case studies.

AbstrakSebuah Usaha Kecil Menengah (UKM) yang ada dalam masyarakat merupakan   sebuah usaha yang dirintis oleh masyarakat  dengan beberapa produk maupun usaha yang berbeda-beda. Setiap usaha tersebut memiliki manajemen keuangan yang masih dilakukan secara manual, yaitu pembukuan dan perekapan data yang masih menggunakan buku dengan cara mengumpulkan dan mengelompokkan beberapa nota. Dengan adanya permasalahan tersebut maka dibuatlah analisa dan perancangan sistem informasi akuntansi yang dapat digunakan oleh para pemilik UKM dalam mengelola keuangan serta dapat mengontrol manajemen dalam UKM tersebut.  Karena proses yang manual tersebut, banyak pemilik UKM yang kebingungan dalam mengelola keuangannya, dan tidak dapat mengetahui modal awal ketika mendirikan usaha sampai dengan usaha UKM yang semakin pesat. Oleh karena itu, dibuatlah sebuah analisa dan perancangan sistem informasi  akuntansi yang dapat digunakan oleh banyak pemilik UKM dalam mengelola keuangannya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mempermudah para pemilik UKM dalam mengelola keuangannya serta dapat mengatur pengelolaan manajemen yang teratur dalam UKM tersebut. Metode pengembangan yang digunakan adalah dengan metode ISLC (Information System Life Cycle) yang nantinya dalam tahapan tersebut juga dilakukan implementasi ke beberapa UKM. Introduction. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an auspicious approach that supports management and exchange of semantically rich 3D models across design disciplines. Recently, BIM has gained widespread acceptance in the AEC industry, and it improves the efficiency and quality of the process by facilitating the early exchange of 3D building models. At different stages of the life cycle, a building information model is gradually refined from rough conceptual design to detailed individual components. The task is to develop mechanisms for machine verification (authentication) of data transmitted to/from different systems (for example, from a customer to an expert evaluation authority, from a contractor to the urban planning management information system or any other state information system) in the form of an information model of capital construction facilities or certain components of an information model. Materials and methods. To substantiate the choice of the language employed to describe machine-readable documents, various use cases of XML schemas were analyzed, including the use of the Google Trends tool. Information systems, implemented in the Russian Federation, were also considered. Most of them use the W3C XML Schema language to describe XSD schemas. Results. A consolidated list of XML schemas, necessary and sufficient to maintain stages of the life cycle of a capital construction facility in terms of interaction with the Urban Planning Management Information System is presented. To ensure interaction between the life cycle participants and state information systems, it is necessary to have the list of XML schemas approved at the federal level. The paper presents matrixes of scenarios for the application of XML schemas in the following coordinates: participants, life cycle stages. Conclusions. XML schemas can be supplemented in respect of various stages of a life cycle of a capital construction faci-lity to be verified with due regard for further methodological approaches and changes in regulatory and technical acts; new approaches and the need for this supplementation must be substantiated.

The changes made in the environment as a consequence of massive industrialization led to a change in the vision of mankind on how organizations should interact with the ecosystem. In the same time information system has a key role in their activity. The increasing their use is accompanied by positive effects. This chapter presents the changes necessary for transformation traditional information systems in green information system. The organization's motivations to develop and implement strategies and regulations for environmental protection are varied. They can be the organization's internal drivers, such as reducing delivery costs, increasing efficiency, improving market reputation, and external, such as government legislation or policies, regulations, competition. Changes necessary to implement green information system are presented based on agile model life cycle and in accord with organizations objectives.

Therefore, the need for new “Information System Design Theories” for the emerging ISs is recognized. According to Walls, Widmeyer, and El-Sawy (1992), an “IS design theory” must have two aspects?one dealing with the description of the system and one dealing with the prescription, that is, the process of developing of the system. The prescription aspect includes a description of procedures and guidelines for system development. In addition, these two aspects must be grounded on theories from natural or social sciences (i.e., kernel theories). As information systems are socio-technical phenomena in which social and technical factors interweave the ways in which people work, the issue of “how to integrate the work activity and social context of users into the IS which is being designed” becomes one of the principal problems of IS development (Bai & Lindberg, 1999). Therefore, the development of new IS design theories requires a closer look at the system theories that go beyond the traditional system theory that is based, among other things, on Cartesian dualism (i.e., mind/body or cognition/action) and on a model of cognition as the processing of representational information (Mingers, 2001). One of the candidate theories is the theory of autopoiesis, which can be best viewed as a system-grounded way of thinking with biological foundations, together with its extension into social domain.

Organizations are required by legal provision to include information system security into their day- today management activities. To do this effectively and efficiently, it is necessary that information security management integrates into the overall system life cycle. Here I will present a system life cycle and suggest which aspects of security should be covered at which life cycle stage of the system. Based on this, I will present a process framework that due to its iterativity and detailedness accommodates the needs for life cycle oriented security management.

The article describes the full life cycle of an information system based on open Webtechnologies from the point of view of developers and system administrators. The article starts with the development of technical specifications for an information system creation and ends with the system’s launching into operation and its subsequent uninterrupted operation. As the example, the creation process of the information system for the Foundation of Algorithms and Programs of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is described.
