Implantable medical devices (IMDs) are miniaturized computer systems used to monitor and treat various medical conditions. Examples of IMDs include insulin pumps, artificial pacemakers, neuro-stimulators, and implantable cardiac defibrillators. These devices have adopted wireless communication to help facilitate the care they provide for patients by allowing easier transferal of data or remote control of machine operations. However, with such adoption has come exposure to various security risks and issues that must be addressed due to the close relation of patient health and IMD performance. With patient lives on the line, these security risks pose increasingly real problems. This chapter hopes to provide an overview of these security risks, their proposed solutions, and the limitations on IMD systems which make solving these issues nontrivial. Later, the chapter will analyze the security issues and the history of vulnerabilities in pacemakers to illustrate the theoretical topics by considering a specific device.

Implantable Medical Devices (IMDs) reside within human bodies either temporarily or permanently, for diagnostic, monitoring, or therapeutic purposes. IMDs have a history of outstanding success in the treatment of many diseases, including heart diseases, neurological disorders, and deafness etc.,With the ever-increasing clinical need for implantable devices comes along with the continuous flow of technical challenges. Comparing with the commercial portable products, implantable devices share the same need to reduce size, weight and power. Thus, the need for device integration becomes very much imperative. There are many challenges faced when creating an implantable medical device. While this paper focuses on various techniques adapted to design a reliable device and also focus on the key electronic features of designing an ultra-low power implantable medical circuits for devices and systems.

Gambuh as the performing art in Malay area became one of the cultural transformation evidences of the close relation between Java and Malay. The history of gambuh performance in Malay area recorded in the archipelago’s manuscripts, one of them is a manuscript entitled Surat Gambuh which is being the collection of Leiden University Library. This paper attempts to examine the contents of the manuscript in order to reconstruct the gambuh performance art in Malay and also trace the historical aspects. As far as the research had been done, there have been no studies of this manuscript so it is necessary to first transliterate it using a critical method. Furthermore, the historical aspects are explored using a historical approach by adding data from other texts of Panji. The analysis result of the reflection of Malay gambuh performance rules and historical aspects show that there is a transformation of work from oral tradition to written tradition, the cultural acculturation between Java and Malay, and the Islamic influence behind Malay gambuh.
