Determining Consumer Purchase Intention Toward Counterfeit Luxury Goods Based on the Perceived Risk Theory

This study aims to understand the impact of financial, psychological, and social risk dimensions on attitude and intention to purchase counterfeit luxury goods. Data were collected through a questionnaire conducted with 116 Angolan consumers and were treated with structural equation modeling. The results revealed that only financial risk and social risk were influential in attitude toward counterfeit luxury goods. Attitude had a significant influence on the intention to purchase counterfeit luxury goods. The research contributes to the literature because there has been no previous study in an African country that seeks to understand the purchase intention of counterfeit luxury goods according to risk perception theory. On the other hand, this study is one of the few to report that social risk perception positively impacts attitudes towards counterfeit luxury goods.

Purpose Counterfeiting is a large business involving the manufacturing or distribution of imitation goods. The purpose of this paper is to develop an integrated research model that combines neutralisation theory and perceived risk theory to explain consumers’ purchase intention towards counterfeit luxury goods. Design/methodology/approach Of the 280 distributed questionnaires, 230 were returned. Rigorous data filtering was performed to remove problematic data, leaving 213 usable questionnaires for analysis. To validate the proposed hypotheses, PLS analysis (a variance-based structural equation modelling technique) was conducted using Smart-PLS. Findings The results showed that denial of responsibility, denial of victim, performance risk and social risk are significant predictors of consumers’ purchase intention towards counterfeit luxury goods. However, denial of injury, appeal to higher loyalties, condemnation of the condemners, as well as psychological risk and prosecution risks, were found to have no significant relationships with purchase intention towards counterfeit luxury goods. Originality/value The integrated model is useful in predicting consumers’ purchase intention towards counterfeit luxury goods. This study discusses the research findings and concludes with managerial implications and limitations.

The main aim of this study is to measure the factors which influence the risk perception of customers while using electronic banking channel. The significant findings of this study are, internet banking is having high risk assumed by most of the respondents. Based on the risk dimensions, financial risk influencing more compared to the other types of risk. Most of the respondents are assuming that financial risk and psychological risk is more in credit card. Performance risk is more in a debit card, time risk, psychological risk, security risk and social risk are huge in internet banking. Financial risk is the mediating factor for determining the perceived risk of electronic banking customers.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a research model that examines the effect of information overload and information disorganisation upon customers’ perceived risk and purchase intention online in a single integrative model. In addition the paper investigates whether internet experience moderates these relationships. Design/methodology/approach – To achieve the paper's objectives an experiment that involved visiting the ten most visited e-commerce web sites in Spain was conducted. Hypotheses were tested by using structural equation modelling on a data set of 1,396 online shopping customers. Findings – The results suggest a positive relationship between information overload and customer purchase intention and that internet experience reinforces this positive effect. Moreover the results confirm that the relationship between information disorganisation and customer purchase intention is not significant and that internet experience does not moderate the relationship. The findings also indicate that perceived risk mediates the relationship between information overload and information disorganisation on customer purchase intention. Originality/value – This work contributes to the literature by exploring the phenomenon of information overload and information disorganisation upon customers’ perceived risk and purchase intention in the e-commerce environment as well as the moderating effect of internet experience on these relationships in a single integrative model. The main conclusions of this investigation can be valuable to organisations that implement or intend to implement e-commerce.

The purpose of the current research is to assess the influence of perceived risk on the online purchase intention of customers towards branded apparels. To discuss perceived risk, the use of five different factors was made which are product risk, time risk, social risk, security risk, and financial risk. It has evaluated the impact of these risks on online purchase intention. To collect data, a survey has been used as a method and quantitative analysis used for testing the hypothesis established. Data were collected from 20 respondents who participated in the survey online and the collected data were analyzed by using IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The findings suggest that there is an influence of perceived risk on consumers when they are purchasing branded apparel online. Two factors product and financial risk have a significant and negative influence on customers online purchase intention. However, other factors which are security, social, and time risk are insignificant. In the context of practical implications, this study would be helpful for online retailers and would provide them with an overview of the customer’s perspective regarding the risks that restrict them from purchasing branded apparel online.

Over the years, the number of organizations investing in CSR activities has increased considerably. This increase is partially attributable to the intention of the organizations to give back to the society to repair and reduce the loss their intentional or unintentional actions might have caused to the environment. The government’s decision to make it mandatory for businesses to invest a small part of their net profit in social welfare activities has also helped nudge the organizations towards CSR activities. However, the question whether this investment influences customers’ intention to purchase the product in any manner remains an unresolved paradox. Limited researches have been conducted in this area to explore and establish the relationship if any between CSR and consumer purchase intention. This research focuses on the five different factors of CSR comprising of loyalty, morality, awareness, behavior and environment, which are identified from the previous literature. With the help of these factors, the authors researched and established the relationship between them and consumer purchase intention. In this descriptive research, the research questionnaire was distributed to 1500 respondents, using convenient sampling method, out of which 319 responses were finally obtained for the analysis purpose. After testing the reliability and validity of the data, the five hypotheses were tested using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling). It was found that all the five hypotheses were supported and thereby acknowledged the significant influence of CSR related activities performed by companies on the consumer purchase intention. The CSR driven morality is emerging to be the most important dimension that appears to influence the consumer purchase intentions. These finding will help decision-makers to formulate their promotion activities in such a manner that it aligns with the value system of the consumers and increase the overall consumer base.

The main aim of this study is to identify purchase intention among Malaysian online consumer towards online store. A recent data provided by MCMC indicate that only 9.3 percent of Internet users in Malaysia admitted doing online purchasing despite huge number reflects Malaysian is heavy Internet users. This is due to the factors that the consumers are feared towards risk they may get during shopping online and this can affect their purchase intention activities. The finding identified that privacy risk and delivery risk are significant to purchase intention among online consumers in Malaysia. Meanwhile, financial risk, product performance risk, time risk, psychological risk, social risk and after-sale risk are not significant to purchase intention. This indicated that Malaysian online consumers tend to care their personal information has been misused by third parties within their permission in order to prevent privacy risk in online shopping activities.

PurposeThis study aims to compare the purchase intention of counterfeit outdoor products between Taiwan and Hong Kong consumers.Design/methodology/approachA total of 584 respondents from Hong Kong (n = 247, 42%) and Taiwan (n = 337, 58%) were recruited for the study. Data analysis was performed by using structural equation modelling techniques.FindingsThe results showed that consumers' perceived risk had a negative influence on attitude and intention to purchase counterfeit outdoor products. Moreover, attitude towards buying counterfeit outdoor products, perceived behavioural control and subjective norm had positive impacts on purchase intention. Brand consciousness, however, had a negative influence on purchase intention. The multi-group analysis identified significant differences between Hong Kong and Taiwanese respondents.Originality/valueThis study provides a better understanding of how these factors affect purchase intention of counterfeit outdoor products across different cultures.

Flooding, already the most damaging type of natural disaster in China, is expected to become increasingly costly around the world. However, few studies have examined residents’ flood-preparedness intentions and the effect of flood experience and other variables on general financial risk-taking. This study explored the effects of Chinese residents’ previous flood experiences, trust in public flood protection, and flood-risk perception on flood-preparedness intentions and attitudes towards financial risk-taking in general. Study 1 surveyed residents in a flooded area (n = 241) and a non-flooded area (n = 248); Study 2 surveyed a non-flooded area (n = 1599). The relations between the variables were tested through structural-equation modelling (SEM). Overall, the two studies found that residents’ flood experiences, trust in public protection, and flood-risk perception not only predicted their flood preparedness but also their financial risk aversion. This study highlights the importance of residents’ trust in public flood protection for flood risk management and communication, especially for those who have not yet experienced flooding.

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Videotron media ads served in Surakarta using the Consumer Decision Model (CDM) Analysis. Viewed ad serving costs in videtron large enough it is necessary to study the effectiveness of the ads served on videtron. The model that is used in measuring the effectiveness of an ad in this research is the Consumer Decision Model (CDM). The research objective was to determine the effect the message of the ad (Information), branding (Brand Recognition), the formation of an attitude (Attitude), the level of confidence in the message (Confidence), and intention to purchase (Intention) market target after seeing ad impressions through Videotron. The study population is a society in Surakarta with sampling method is purposive sampling of 200 respondents Data analysis technique using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) which resulted in the conclusion that the message of the ad (Information) positive effect but not significant with branding (Brand Recognition), formation attitude (attitude), and the level of confidence in the message (confidence). Brand recognition is positive and significant impact on the confidence and attitude while confidence and attitude positive and significant effect on the intention to purchase (Intention) market target after seeing ad impressions through Videotron. Green residence is the future of urban development, it is also an attempt to implement the green business model in the residential business field. The key to the success of a green business model is that a wide range of customers can accept its green value proposition and react to it through their purchase decisions. This study aims to develop a theory of a planned behavior (TPB) research model to predict individuals’ intention to purchase green residence. This study took steel structure residence as an example, which was widely recognized as one emerging type of green residence. The samples were selected in Baotou city of Inner Mongolia, P.R. China. Data analysis was performed using the structural equation modeling (SEM) with data obtained from a survey of 208 respondents using SPSS19.0 and AMOS17.0. The results found that the individuals’ intention to purchase green residence was significantly affected by attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. Moreover, the empirical evidence showed that these influences differed between different gender groups. Specifically, women responders had a stronger effect on the path attitude impact on purchase intention than men. These findings can provide implications for practicing the green business model of real estate enterprise.
