In applications such as video surveillance systems, cameras transmit video data streams through network in which quality of received video should be assured. Traditional IP based networks cannot guarantee the required Quality of Service (QoS) for such applications. Nowadays, Software Defined Network (SDN) is a popular technology, which assists network management using computer programs. In this paper, a new SDN-based video surveillance system infrastructure is proposed to apply desire traffic engineering for practical video surveillance applications. To keep the quality of received videos adaptively, usually Constraint Shortest Path (CSP) problem is used which is a NP-complete problem. Hence, heuristic algorithms are suitable candidate for solving such problem. This paper models streaming video data on a surveillance system as a CSP problem, and proposes an artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm to find optimal solution to manage the network adaptively and guarantee the required QoS. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of QoS metrics.

Cloud-based video surveillance systems, as a new cloud computing service model, are an emerging research topic, both at home and abroad. Current research is mainly focused on exploring applications of the system. This paper proposes a design and implementation method for cloud-based video surveillance systems using the characteristics of cloud computing, such as parallel computing, large storage space, and easy expandability. The system architecture and function modules are built, and a prototype cloud-based video surveillance system is established in a campus network using key technologies, including virtual machine task access control, video-data distributed storage, and database-active communicationmethods. Using the system, the user is able to place a webcam in a location that requires monitoring so that video surveillance can be achieved, and video data can be viewed through a browser. The system has the following advantages: low investment and maintenance cost, high portability, easily extendable, superior data security, and excellent sharing. As a private cloud server in the campus network, the system is able to not only provide convenient video surveillance services, but it can also be an excellent practical experimental platform for cloud computing-related research, which carries outstanding application value.

Non-convex Optimal Economic Dispatch (OED) problem is a complex optimization problem in power system operation that must be optimized economically to meet the power demand and system constraints. The non-convex OED is due to the generator characteristic such as prohibited operation zones, valve point effects (VPE) or multiple fuel options. This paper proposes a Gbest Artificial Bee Colony (GABC) algorithm based on global best particle (gbest) guided of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) in Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm for solving non-convex OED with VPE. In order to investigate the effectiveness and performance of GABC algorithm, the IEEE 14-bus 5 unit generators and IEEE 30-bus 6 unit generators test systems are considered. The comparison of optimal solution, convergence characteristic and robustness are also highlighted to reveal the advantages of GABC. Moreover, the optimal results obtained by proposed GABC are compared with other reported results of meta-heuristic algorithms. It found that the GABC capable to obtain lowest cost as compared to others. Thus, it has great potential to be implemented in  different types of power system optimization problem.

Wireless video surveillance is of increasing importance. Many wireless video surveillance systems require a well optimized video codec for low-power operations. Compression of the captured video is normally needed in order to reduce the amount of video data to be delivered as well as to increase the video storage capability of the surveillance system. In this paper, a method which can greatly reduce the complexity for one of the most time-consuming parts in a video encoder was proposed.

In recent years, with the development of video surveillance systems, the cluster and load balancing technology need be applied to improve the system performance and the quality of service. In this paper, on the basis of common load balancing algorithms, considering the characteristics of the video surveillance system, design a new load balancing scheduling mechanism, by improving the weighted round robin algorithm and introducing the nodes cooperation strategy. The testing results show that the new mechanism can distribute the loads more reasonably and make use of the server resources more effectively.

In the construction process of smart cities, more and more video surveillance systems have been deployed for traffic, office buildings, shopping malls, and families. Thus, the security of video surveillance systems has attracted more attention. At present, many researchers focus on how to select the region of interest (RoI) accurately and then realize privacy protection in videos by selective encryption. However, relatively few researchers focus on building a security framework by analyzing the security of a video surveillance system from the system and data life cycle. By analyzing the surveillance video protection and the attack surface of a video surveillance system in a smart city, we constructed a secure surveillance framework in this manuscript. In the secure framework, a secure video surveillance model is proposed, and a secure authentication protocol that can resist man-in-the-middle attacks (MITM) and replay attacks is implemented. For the management of the video encryption key, we introduced the Chinese remainder theorem (CRT) on the basis of group key management to provide an efficient and secure key update. In addition, we built a decryption suite based on transparent encryption to ensure the security of the decryption environment. The security analysis proved that our system can guarantee the forward and backward security of the key update. In the experiment environment, the average decryption speed of our system can reach 91.47 Mb/s, which can meet the real-time requirement of practical applications.

The use of video surveillance systems is used in the areas of security, law and order, in the territories of protected objects, in monitoring the movement of road vehicles and in other areas. The main disadvantage of a video surveillance system is its susceptibility to weather influences (rain, fog, snowfall, etc.), which degrades the quality of the video system by reducing the signal level. Therefore, the urgency of finding new ways and possibilities to improve the quality of video signals is one of the priority areas of signal processing. The main task of this work was to determine the main parameters, simulate the transmission line and amplifier, and select the schematic diagram of the transmitting and receiving path with the voltage and current ratings. Both the receiver and the cable video transmitter have different means of adjusting to different transmission line lengths. The signal at the output of each receiver should be in the range from 0.9 to 1.1 V, and the spread of the total ohmic resistance of the wires of the video transmission line at the input of the receiver should be no more than 2 – 3%. Based on these parameters, the equipment is configured for transmitting video over the channel. The magnitude of the mismatch is regulated by potentiometers, which allow smooth adjustment of the video transmission equipment [1]. As a rule, video transmission over the channel is carried out at a distance of 50 to 1500 m. If it is necessary to transmit video at distances less than 50 m, additional resistances are connected in series at the receiver input so that the total line resistance is 30 - 50 Ohm [1].

Pervasive usage of video surveillance is rapidly increasing in developed countries. Continuous security threats to public safety demand use of such systems. Contemporary video surveillance systems offer advanced functionalities which threaten the privacy of those recorded in the video. There is a need to balance the usage of video surveillance against its negative impact on privacy. This chapter aims to highlight the privacy issues in video surveillance and provides a model to help identify the privacy requirements in a video surveillance system. The authors make a step in the direction of investigating the existing legal infrastructure for ensuring privacy in video surveillance and suggest guidelines in order to help those who want to deploy video surveillance while least compromising the privacy of people and complying with legal infrastructure.

Pathway information for cancer detection helps to find co-regulated gene groups whose collective expression is strongly associated with cancer development. In this paper, a collaborative multi-swarm binary particle swarm optimization (MS-BPSO) based gene selection technique is proposed that outperforms to identify the pathway marker genes. We have compared our proposed method with various statistical and pathway based gene selection techniques for different popular cancer datasets as well as a detailed comparative study is illustrated using different meta-heuristic algorithms like binary coded particle swarm optimization (BPSO), binary coded differential evolution (BDE), binary coded artificial bee colony (BABC) and genetic algorithm (GA). Experimental results show that the proposed MS-BPSO based method performs significantly better and the improved multi swarm concept generates a good subset of pathway markers which provides more effective insight to the gene-disease association with high accuracy and reliability.
