Understanding the Association between IT Governance Maturity and IT Governance Disclosure

IT governance (ITG) provides a toolbox for companies to realize maximum value from IT. Firms implement ITG via frameworks, such as COBIT or VALIT, which list processes to align business and IT strategies, deliver IT services and comply with regulations. While there exists evidence that companies with mature ITG processes outperform their competitors and that signaling ITG maturity to external stakeholders has a positive impact on firm value, little research has focused on the relationship between IT governance maturity and disclosure of related information. This study examines the association of COBIT and VALIT maturity on IT governance disclosure. The authors posit that overall maturity in COBIT and VALIT have a positive impact on IT governance disclosure. Our results indicate that there exists a positive impact for COBIT maturity and most of its domains on disclosure, while the impact of VALIT maturity on disclosure is mostly insignificant.

A gap exists in the extant literature on linking information technology governance vis-à-vis hospital performance. Specifically, this work offers insights to fill this gap by adopting the COBIT 5 framework and ISO 38500 standards in examining the relationship between IT governance principles and balanced scorecard (BSC) dimensions of hospital performance. The proposed study investigated the influence of IT governance on Tehran's hospitals' performance. Data were gathered and analyzed from fifty-three (53) questionnaires administered to Health Information Systems (HIS) professionals and IT managers. Results showed that all IT governance dimensions have a positive correlation with hospital performance and IT governance has a significant positive impact on Tehran's hospitals' performance.

The performance of innovation could be counted by the number of patent. Patent information enables a firm to estimate R&D efficiency and stock market value. Nonetheless, patents is not universal because more than 50% companies in COMPUSTAT do not patent their new products. Since patents have some drawbacks, Cooper, Knott, and Yang (2015) use Research Quotient (RQ) as an indicator of firm innovation because RQ measures the productivity of the R&D department, which produces a new innovative product and transforms it into revenues. In this paper, we examine the impact of option trading on the relation between RQ and stock market return (or firm value). We find that RQ has the positive impact on firm value, proxy by market-to-book (MTB) value. The option dummy, which is the firm with option trading, has significantly positive impact on the relation between RQ and firm value and insignificantly positive impact on the relation between RQ and future stock return. Nonetheless, interaction term of RQ and option volume has positive and significant impacts on MTB and future stock return.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the relation between CEO board membership and firm performance. Design/methodology/approach This paper investigates the relationship between firm performance and CEO board membership, applying two-stage least squares, propensity score matching and correcting for self-selection bias across a unique sample of publicly listed New Zealand firms that demonstrate a definitive variation in CEO board membership. Findings This study finds that CEO board membership has a positive impact on firm performance, and these benefits are greater for more complex firms. Research limitations/implications Firms with CEOs independent of the board are associated with lower firm performance. The results are consistent with CEO board members providing an important information transfer mechanism to the board, resulting in an increase in average firm performance. This benefit is greater for larger firms with more business segments. Originality/value The paper tests for the impact of CEO board membership using a data set that demonstrates a definitive variation in CEO board membership.

This study empirically investigates the less discussed catalytic effect of personality in the relationship of leadership style and employee thriving at work. The growth and sustainability of the organization is linked with the association of leadership style and employee thriving at the worplace. The objectives of this study are to explore the impact of authoritative and laissez-faire leadership styles and the moderating role of the personality trait of conscientiousness on thriving in the workplace. A sample of 312 participants was taken from a leading school system with its branches in Lahore and Islamabad, Pakistan. The participants either worked as managers, teachers in headquarters, or school campuses, respectively. The regression results of the study show that authoritative leadership and conscientiousness have a significantly positive impact on thriving at work. Furthermore, conscientiousness moderates the relationship between laissez-faire style of leadership and thriving at work relationship. The findings of this study have theoretical implications for authoritative and laissez-faire leadership, employee conscientiousness, and managerial applications for the practitioners.

With the rapid development of information technology, information security has been gaining attention. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has issued international standards and technical reports related to information security, which are gradually being adopted by enterprises. This study analyzes the relationship between information security certification (ISO 27001) and corporate financial performance using data from Chinese publicly listed companies. The study focusses on the impact of corporate decisions such as whether to obtain certification, how long to hold certification, and whether to publicize information regarding certification. The results show that there is a positive correlation between ISO 27001 and financial performance. Moreover, the positive impact of ISO 27001 on financial performance gradually increases with time. In addition, choosing not to publicize ISO 27001 certification can negatively affect enterprise performance.

This study examined the impact of E-CRM on customer loyalty with the mediating effect of customer satisfaction in the banking industry. Customer satisfaction is important for loyalty because when the customers are satisfied with the services offered by their service providers, the relationship gets stronger which further leads to positive word-of-mouth. The data was collected using purposive sampling from 836 banks’ customers who were using E-CRM services and the data was analyzed using structural equation model (SEM) through AMOS. The results revealed that E-CRM and customer satisfaction had a significant positive impact on customer loyalty and also customer satisfaction partially mediated the relationship between E-CRM and customer loyalty. This study would offer useful acumen to both academicians and marketers and would help the bank managers to improve the quality of the services provided to their customers.

The purpose of this research is to examine and analyze the impact of related party transaction, profitability, Leverage and size of a company on firm value with tax avoidance as an intervening variable. The telecommunication and media sector in Bursa Efek Indonesia and Bursa Malaysia is chosen as the research object. The population is all the telecommunication and media companies listed in Indonesia stock exchange (IDX) and Bursa Malaysia within 2010-2018. It consists of 6 Telecommunication Company and 19 Media Company on IDX within 2010-2018. There exist a total of 33 companies in both the telecommunication and media sector in Bursa Malaysia. The sample's determination in this study is based on the nonprobability sampling method with the purposive sampling technique, in which the sample is selected with certain considerations or specific criteria. So that the sample of Malaysia is 248 and Indonesia is 139 data. Malaysia's telecommunications sector has 18 companies, and Indonesia has five companies. Meanwhile on media sector Indonesia consist of 15 company and Malaysia 12 company. This research adopts secondary data and multiple regression analysis for the regression to substructure I and II. The hypothesis mediation analysis is used to prove the mediation influence. Malaysia and Indonesia's results on Firm value: (1) Related party transaction has a positive but not significant impact. In contrast, Indonesia has a significant positive impact (2) Profitability has a significant negative impact both in Indonesia and Malaysia (3) Leverage has positive. However, not significant impact in Malaysia and Indonesia (4) Size of the company has a negative and significant impact for both country (5) Tax Avoidance has a negative but not significant impact. In contrast, Indonesia has a positive and significant impact on firm value. Related to the impact of variable independent toward tax avoidance, based on Malaysia's result, just the size of a company has the impact but negative and significant. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, Related party transaction and Leverage were known to have a negative and significant impact, and the size of the company has positive and significant toward tax avoidance. Based on Malaysia's result, tax avoidance does not impact all the independent variables on firm value. Based on Indonesia's result, the impact of company size on firm value is mediated by tax avoidance (Z). Based on the independent t-test, the variables that have different mean values are related to party transactions and company size. This paper aims at verifying the relationship between book value and  market value for a four years period (2006-2009) in Europe, under IFRS. In particular, I used value relevance approach to measure whether net income or comprehensive income are more useful to understand the relationship between market data and financial data. Moreover, the paper analyzes the impact of financial crisis on the value relevance of accounting data. The examination period runs from a pre-crisis period (2006-2007) to an in-crisis period (2008-2009). Results shows that comprehensive income is more value relevant than net income. Furthermore, the financial crisis has a positive impact on value relevance.

This study aims to investigate the moderating role of profitability in the relationship between capital structure and firm value in Jordan, as an example of an emerging economy. For this purpose, two functional models were formulated to capture the direct relationship as well as the interaction impact of capital structure on firm value. The robust empirical findings of panel data analysis provide strong evidence of an adverse relationship between capital structure and firm value. The findings confirm that the impact of capital structure appears to be complicated in nature and difficult to examine without controlling for the interaction of profitability as one of the major determinants. Therefore, studying the interaction effect provides ample evidence and enhances the understanding of the link between firm value and capital structure. The empirical results of the study may provide important insights and policy implications to decision-makers.

Purpose – There are few studies that have studied the relationship between Transformational leadership (TL) and organisation commitment (OC), but there are very few studies on the service sector especially in the Indian context. This study aims to fill the gap in literature by empirically examining the impact of four dimensions of TL using Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) on the Affective Commitment (AC) of the employees, within the context of the service sector in Bengaluru. Design/methodology/approach – A total of two hypotheses were proposed for testing transformational leadership using Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) questionnaire, (Bass and Avolio, 1997) and five items of affective organization commitment developed by Allen and Meyer (1996) was used for affective commitment. The questionnaire was administered to 210 employees working in various industries in the service sector in Bengaluru to measure the impact of TL on the AC of the respondents. Findings – The analysis of the data collected shows that TL has a positive impact on the affective commitment of the employees. In particular, the results of an empirical investigation revealed that individualized influence and individual consideration by the transformational leader had a significant impact on the affective commitment level of the employees. The employees in the hospitality industry had a difference in opinion compared to IT, Banking & education sector employees on the intellectual stimulation by the leader and their affective commitment towards the organization. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the existing literature of leadership and OC by providing practical evidence leading to the improvement of information and the understanding of the relationship between TL and AC.
