For rigid rotor that widely applied in gyroscopes, high precision dynamic balance is very important. The paper introduces a dynamic balance method for drum-shape gyroscope rotor: the rotor is supported by gas bearing; detecting the displacement of three points on the drum-shape rotor’s end-plane, obtaining its normal direction. Then according to geometrical relation of geometric axis and polar inertia axis, the dynamic trace of the rotor can be obtained, and the rotor’s mass imbalance is calculated. Experiment result shows that the method has high balance accuracy, particularly suit for high-speed gyroscope rotor whose mass imbalance is small.

Abstract Variable pitch end mills are widely used in the high-speed milling process due to having better vibration reduction properties. However, because of the unequal pitch angles and the asymmetrical structure of end mills, there are principle error, poor dynamic balance accuracy, and serious tool vibration problems in the milling process. In order to improve the dynamic balance accuracy of variable pitch end mills, the structure of the end mill is designed and optimized based on the minimum eccentricity criterion in this paper. Firstly, by analyzing the dynamic balance of variable pitch end mills, the relationship between it and eccentricity is defined, and the end section model and the centroid equation are developed through the structure design of end mills. Then, the optimization method of variable pitch end mills is analyzed, the eccentricity decreases from e0= 150um to e'0 = 3um based on this method. the structure of the end mill is optimized to meet the design criteria, which improves the balance accuracy level of end mills. Finally, through the modal analysis for the optimized structure of the variable pitch end mill, the maximum relative displacement in the mode is reduced by about 17%, it is verified that the optimized end mills have better dynamic performances, which is of great significance for alleviating the cutting vibration and improving the cutting stability.

High-speed scanning is a huge challenge to the motion control of step-scanning gene sequencing stage. The stage should achieve high-precision position stability with minimal settling time for each step. The existing step-scanning scheme usually bases on fixed-step motion control, which has limited means to reduce the time cost of approaching the desired position and keeping high-precision position stability. In this work, we focus on shortening the settling time of stepping motion and propose a novel variable step control method to increase the scanning speed of gene sequencing stage. Specifically, the variable step control stabilizes the stage at any position in a steady-state interval rather than the desired position on each step, so that reduces the settling time. The resulting step-length error is compensated in the next acceleration and deceleration process of stepping to avoid the accumulation of errors. We explicitly described the working process of the step-scanning gene sequencer and designed the PID control structure used in the variable step control for the gene sequencing stage. The simulation was performed to check the performance and stability of the variable step control. Under the conditions of the variable step control where the IMA6000 gene sequencer prototype was evaluated extensively. The experimental results show that the real gene sequencer can step 1.54 mm in 50 ms period, and maintain a high-precision stable state less than 30 nm standard deviation in the following 10 ms period. The proposed method performs well on the gene sequencing stage.

Tire dynamic balance detection plays an important part in tire quality detection area. This paper uses the two-sided balance method to obtain the unbalance of the tire. According to the engineering practice, builds kinetic model and then introduces the calculating principle and operating procedures. In order to accurately determine the influence coefficient, a calibration method without tire is put forward. Further more, this new method is able to eliminate the unbalance caused by non-quality factors to some extent. But this method is presented based on the relative position invariance of the upper rim and lower rim, even both of them are under high-speed rotation situation. Finally, the experimental data acquired from both of the two methods are compared. The calibration method without tire is proved to be more feasible, efficient and accurate.

This paper describes the design of an intelligent multi-gyro measurement device to measure and monitor an inertial unit composed of three dynamically tuned gyros (DTGs). A 16-bit microprogrammed control unit is programmed to fulfill the functions of signal processing, logic control and serial communication with a master computer. An FPGA, designed by using Verilog Hardware Description Language, is used to realize high speed 16-bit reversible counters for output pulses of the DTG digital dynamic balance circuits. The count values represent the angular motion of the inertial unit. A stepping electric bridge is employed to measure the resistance of thermal resistors within the gyros in a wide temperature environment. The resistance represents the working temperature of the gyros. An effective calibration method for the bridge is developed to eliminate the resistance measurement error. A test system is established to examine whether the device meets the user requirements. Results of the tests show that the device has a good performance. A trial use has proved that the device is stable and reliable and that it satisfies the demand of the user.
