It’s necessary to research on the interaction of blade wheel with incoming flow. The CFD method was used in this paper for numerical simulation of the aerodynamic performance for wind turbines’ blade wheel at rated wind speed. The first thing was the establishment of wind turbine dynamic model of blade wheel. Then using Fluent software to simulate the three-dimensional flow field around it. The visual images on pressure distribution,flow rate distribution and velocity vector of the blade were obtained. Also, the load and the torque of the blade were calculated. The reliability of this numerical simulation is inspected in this paper. Some technical parameters and instructional suggestions about how to design the blade as well are proposed.

The head of low-head hydropower stations is generally higher than 2.5m in the world, while micro-head hydropower resources which head is less than 2.5m are also very rich. In the paper, three-dimensional CFD method has been used to simulate flow passage of the micro-head bulb turbine. The design head and unit flow of the turbine was 1m and 3m3/s respectively. With the numerical simulation, the bulb turbine is researched by analyzing external characteristics of the bulb turbine, flow distribution before the runner, pressure distribution of the runner blade surface, and flow distribution of the outlet conduit under three different schemes. The turbine in second scheme was test by manufactured into a physical model. According to the results of numerical simulation and model test, bulb turbine with no guide vane in second scheme has simpler structure, lower cost, and better flow capacity than first scheme, which has traditional multi-guide vanes. Meanwhile, efficiency of second scheme has just little decrease. The results of three dimensions CFD simulation and test results agree well in second scheme, and higher efficiency is up to 77% which has a wider area with the head of 1m. The curved supports in third scheme are combined guide vanes to the fixed supports based on 2nd scheme. By the water circulations flowing along the curved supports which improve energy transformation ability of the runner, the efficiency of the turbine in third scheme is up to 82.6%. Third scheme, which has simpler structure and best performance, is appropriate for the development and utilization of micro-head hydropower resources in plains and oceans.

This article carries out the numerical simulation of airflow over three dimensional car models using ANSYS Fluent software. The calculations have been performed by using realizable k-e turbulence model. The external airflow field of the simplified BMV M6 model with or without a wing is simulated. Several aerodynamic characteristics such as pressure distribution, velocity contours, velocity vectors, streamlines, turbulence kinetic energy and turbulence dissipation energy are analyzed in this study. The aerodynamic forces acting on the car model is calculated and compared with other authors.

Numerical investigation of large thick and low Reynolds airfoil of wind turbines by mounting indented Gurney flaps was carried out. The influenced rules of the position of Gurney flaps on the aerodynamic performance of airfoil under same height of flaps were achieved, and the optimal position of Gurney flap was presented. At last, the mechanism of wind turbine performance controlled by Gurney flap was discussed. The results can provide the theoretical guidance and technical support to wind turbines control in practical engineering.

A series of numerical and experimental studies have been conducted to understand the mechanism of loss generation in a high speed compressor stator with inlet radial shear flow over the span. In this study, numerical simulation is extensively used to investigate the complex three-dimensional flow in the cascades and to interpret the phenomena appeared in the high speed compressor tests. It has been shown that the inlet radial shear flow generated by upstream rotor had a significant influence on the stator secondary flow, and consequently on the total pressure loss. Redesign of the stator aiming at the reduction of loss by controlling secondary flow has been carried out and the resultant performance recovery was successfully demonstrated both numerically and experimentally.

The reduction in specific fuel consumption (SFC) is crucial for small/mid-size cost-controllable aircraft, which is very conducive to reducing cost and carbon dioxide emissions. To decrease the SFC, increasing the bypass ratio (BPR) is an important way. Conventional high-BPR engines have several limitations, especially the conflicting spool-speed requirements of a fan and a low-pressure turbine. This research proposes an air-driven fan with a tip turbine (ADFTT) as a potential device for a high-bypass propulsion system. Moreover, a possible application of this ADFTT is introduced. Thermodynamic analysis results show that an ADFTT can improve thrust from a prototype turbofan. As a demonstration, we selected a typical small-thrust turbofan as the prototype and applied the ADFTT concept to improve this model. Three-dimensional flow fields were numerically simulated through a Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS)-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. The performance of this ADFTT has the possibility of amplifying the BPR more than four times and increasing the thrust by approximately 84% in comparison with the prototype turbofan.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method was applied to study the flow field in cylindrical stirred tank mixing non-Newtonian fluid with double layer combined impeller of upper-straight-blade and lower-inclined-blade. The laminar model and the multiple reference frame (MRF) were employed to simulate the three-dimensional flow field in stirred tank with double layer combined impeller rotating at a constant speed of 200 r/min mixing the mixture of glycerin and water centrally、eccentrically and relative eccentrically, and three different flow structures in stirred tank were obtained. Analyzing the velocity vectors, the velocity contours and the axial、radial and tangent velocity distribution curves, the rule of velocity field with the blade combined form and the stirring structure was discussed. The research provided the valuable reference for the design and practical application of the laminar stirred tank.
