The effects of polyethylene grafted maleic anhydride (PEgMAH) as a compatibilizer on the tensile properties and swelling behavior of ethylene vinyl acetate /Natural Rubber/ Feldspar (EVA/NR/FP) composites were studied. The EVA/NR/FP composites with and without PEgMAH were prepared using Brabender Plasticoder at 160oC with 50rpm rotor speed. The results indicated that EVA/NR/FP/PEgMAH had higher value of tensile strength and M100 but lower elongation at break and percentage mass swell.

The EVA/NR/PF composites with and without IAMA were prepared using Brabender Plasticoder at 160oC with 50rpm rotor speed. The effects of potash feldspar loading and isophathalic acid-maleic anhydride (IAMA) on the tensile properties and morphology analysis of EVA/NR/PF composites were studied. The results indicated that tensile strength for EVA/NR/PF and EVA/NR/PFIAMA composites decreased but M100 increased as the filler loading increased. EVA/NR/PFIAMA composites showed higher value of tensile strength and M100.

The effect of polyethylene grafted maleic anhydride as a compatibilizer on the tensile properties, and swelling behavior of recycled high density polyethylene/ethylene vinyl acetate/ waste tyre dust (r-HDPE/EVA/WTD) composites was studied. r-HDPE/EVA/WTD composites with different tyre dust loading and the addition of polyethylene grafted maleic anhydride (PEgMAH) were prepared with Brabender Plasticorder at temperature of 160°C and rotor speed of 50 rpm. The result indicated that r-HDPE/EVA/WTD/PEgMAH composites exhibit higher tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and mass swell resistance than r-HDPE/EVA/WTD composites.

Wollastonite is one type of inorganic filler. The effects of wollastonite loading on tensile properties of wollastonite (WS) filled high density polyethylene (HDPE)/Natural Rubber (NR) composites was studied. The HDPE/NR/WS composites were prepared by using Brabender EC Plus at a temperature of 180 °C with rotor speed of 50 rpm for 10 min. It was found that the increasing of wollastonite loading had decreased the tensile strength and elongation at break, whereas the Young’s modulus of the HDPE/NR/WS composites had increased with the increasing of wollastonite loading.

This paper describes tensile properties, and morphology analysis of different composition of RHDPE and EVA blends were studied. The main goals are to describe the effect of Caprolactam as compatibilizer used to improve the compatibility between RHDPE and EVA. The RHDPE/EVA blends were prepared at 160°C and the rotor speed of 50rpm in an internal mixer. The tensile strength for RHDPE/EVA blends increased, while adding Caprolactam by 6phr in the blend formulation significantly improved the tensile properties. The SEM micrograph show a better interfacial adhesion between RHDPE and EVA phases for RHDEP/EVA/Caprolactam blends than RHDPE/EVA blends.

Effects of alkanolamide (ALK) addition on cure characteristics, swelling behaviour and tensile properties of silica-filled natural rubber (NR)/chloroprene rubber (CR) blends were investigated. The ALK was synthesized from Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Stearin (RBDPS) and diethanolamine, and incorporated into the silica-filled NR/CR blends as a non-toxic rubber additive. The ALK loadings were 0.0, 1.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 7.0 phr. It was found that the ALK exhibited shorter scorch and cure times and higher elongation at break of the silica-filled NR/CR blends. The ALK also exhibited higher torque differences, tensile modulus and tensile strength at a 1.0 phr of ALK loading and then decreased with further increases in the ALK loading. The swelling measurement proved that the 1.0 phr loading of ALK caused the highest degree in crosslink density of the silica-filled NR/CR blends.

The effects of benzyl urea into RHDPE/NR/CFF composites with different fibers loading were studied. The composites were prepared using BrabenderPlasticorder at 160 °C with rotor speed of 50rpm. The composites were characterized in respect of their tensile properties and morphology. The results indicated that RHDPE/NR/CFF with benzyl urea composites show higher values of tensile strength, Youngs modulus, but lower elongation at break than RHDPE/NR/CFF composites. RHDPE/NR/CFF with benzyl urea composites gave a better interfacial adhesion between the matrix and the fiber than RHDPE/NR/CFF composites as evidence using SEM.

Natural fillers fulfill most requirements needed to replace synthethic fillers in thermoplastic composites. However, some disadvantages appear when natural fillers are used for composites. The poor compatibility between the hydrophilic fillers with the hydrophobic polymer matrix leads to a weak interface and hence, thus poor mechanical properties. In this research, caprolactam-maleic anhydride (CL-MAH) was used as the compatibilizer (6wt%) and the effect of compatibilizer on the composites was studied on mechanical properties and swelling behavior of RHDPE/EVA/Taro. The tensile strength for RHDPE/EVA/Taro composites decreased while increasing the filler loadings but adding caprolactam-maleic anhydride in the composite significantly improved the tensile properties. The swelling behavior results indicated that increased in Taro filler and addition of CL-MAH will increase the mass swell of the composites.

The work covers the characteristics of the functional properties of composites bordering thermoplastics and elastomers. The research is a continuation of considerations on blends in the form of a mixture of natural rubber (NR) with an ethylene–vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and the addition of a lignocellulose biofiller (wheat straw). After describing the processing and rheology as well as examining the thermal properties and morphology of composites (Part 1), the second part focuses on the characteristics of their performance. The effect of both different ratios of mixed polymers and the amount of filler on tensile strength and elongation at break, resistance to thermo-oxidative aging, hardness, tear resistance, barrier and damping properties, as well as flammability were investigated. The increased EVA content has shown a positive effect on tensile strength, elongation at break, resistance to thermo-oxidative aging, hardness, relative damping, tear strength, barrier and burning delay. On the other hand, a larger amount of natural rubber provides high flexibility and promotes the creation of a reinforcing structure by the filler used. Moreover, a significant impact of the addition of cereal straw on the barrier, damping, strength and flammability properties of composites was also noted. The great advantage of the prepared compositions in relation to commercial plastics is their environmental friendliness, primarily by replacing some petroleum derivatives of plastics with natural rubber and straw fibers.

This research focused on the utilization of kapok husk (KH) as filler in low linear density polyethylene (LLDPE). The effect of filler content on tensile properties and morphology of LLDPE/KH eco-composites were investigated. The eco-composites were prepared by using Brabender Plasticiser EC Plus at temperature 160 °C and rotor speed 50 rpm. The results indicated that the tensile strength and elongation at break decreased with KH content increased. However, the modulus of elasticity increased with increasing of KH content. The morphology study of eco-composites exhibit poor interfacial adhesion between KH and LLDPE.
