The effect of isophathalic acid-maleic anhydride (IAMA) as a compatibilizer on the tensile properties and swelling behavior of ethylene vinyl acetate /natural rubber/ feldspar (EVA/NR/PF) composites were studied. The EVA/NR/PF composites with and without IAMA were prepared using Brabender Plasticoder at 160oC with 50rpm rotor speed. The results indicated that EVA/NR/PF/IAMA showed higher value of tensile strength and M100 but lower elongation at break and percentage mass swell compared to EVA/NR/PF composites.

The EVA/NR/FP composites with and without PEgMAH were prepared using Brabender Plasticoder at 160oC with 50rpm rotor speed. The EVA/NR/PF composites with and without IAMA were prepared using Brabender Plasticoder at 160oC with 50rpm rotor speed. The effects of potash feldspar loading and isophathalic acid-maleic anhydride (IAMA) on the tensile properties and morphology analysis of EVA/NR/PF composites were studied. The results indicated that tensile strength for EVA/NR/PF and EVA/NR/PFIAMA composites decreased but M100 increased as the filler loading increased. EVA/NR/PFIAMA composites showed higher value of tensile strength and M100.

The effect of polyethylene grafted maleic anhydride as a compatibilizer on the tensile properties, and swelling behavior of recycled high density polyethylene/ethylene vinyl acetate/ waste tyre dust (r-HDPE/EVA/WTD) composites was studied. r-HDPE/EVA/WTD composites with different tyre dust loading and the addition of polyethylene grafted maleic anhydride (PEgMAH) were prepared with Brabender Plasticorder at temperature of 160°C and rotor speed of 50 rpm. The result indicated that r-HDPE/EVA/WTD/PEgMAH composites exhibit higher tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and mass swell resistance than r-HDPE/EVA/WTD composites.

The effects of benzyl urea into RHDPE/NR/CFF composites with different fibers loading were studied. The composites were prepared using BrabenderPlasticorder at 160 °C with rotor speed of 50rpm. The composites were characterized in respect of their tensile properties and morphology. The results indicated that RHDPE/NR/CFF with benzyl urea composites show higher values of tensile strength, Youngs modulus, but lower elongation at break than RHDPE/NR/CFF composites. RHDPE/NR/CFF with benzyl urea composites gave a better interfacial adhesion between the matrix and the fiber than RHDPE/NR/CFF composites as evidence using SEM.

Natural fillers fulfill most requirements needed to replace synthethic fillers in thermoplastic composites. However, some disadvantages appear when natural fillers are used for composites. The poor compatibility between the hydrophilic fillers with the hydrophobic polymer matrix leads to a weak interface and hence, thus poor mechanical properties. In this research, caprolactam-maleic anhydride (CL-MAH) was used as the compatibilizer (6wt%) and the effect of compatibilizer on the composites was studied on mechanical properties and swelling behavior of RHDPE/EVA/Taro. The tensile strength for RHDPE/EVA/Taro composites decreased while increasing the filler loadings but adding caprolactam-maleic anhydride in the composite significantly improved the tensile properties. The swelling behavior results indicated that increased in Taro filler and addition of CL-MAH will increase the mass swell of the composites.

The effect of irradiation on the mechanical properties of Epoxidized Natural Rubber/Ethylene Vinyl Acetate/Carbon Nanotubes (ENR/EVA/CNTs) nanocomposites were investigated. CNTs at various amount (2, 3, 4 and 6 wt%) were incorporated into ENR50 by solvent casting method. The ENR/CNTs were then blended with EVA by mixing in a Brabender Plasticoder at 120°C. Next, the samples were irradiated by using electron beam with 3 MeV electron beam machine in a dose range of 50 to 200 kGy. The mechanical properties such as tensile strength (Ts), modulus at 100% elongation (M100), elongation at break (Eb) and hardness of reinforced ENR/EVA/CNTs nanocomposites were studied as a function of radiation dose. It was found that, the Ts and M100 has increased almost 2 times compared to the nanocomposites without irradiation up to 150 kGy dose of radiation, and a downward trend thereafter. Gel fraction further confirmed the powerful energy of electron beam radiation result in irradiation-induced crosslinking and further enhanced mechanical properties of the nanocomposites.

Wollastonite is one type of inorganic filler. The effects of wollastonite loading on tensile properties of wollastonite (WS) filled high density polyethylene (HDPE)/Natural Rubber (NR) composites was studied. The HDPE/NR/WS composites were prepared by using Brabender EC Plus at a temperature of 180 °C with rotor speed of 50 rpm for 10 min. It was found that the increasing of wollastonite loading had decreased the tensile strength and elongation at break, whereas the Young’s modulus of the HDPE/NR/WS composites had increased with the increasing of wollastonite loading.

Taro powder (TP) filled composites based on recycled high density polyethylene (RHDPE)/ ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) were prepared via melt blending method. Polyethylene-grafted-maleic anhydride (PE-g-MAH) was used as a compatibilizer to enhance interfacial bonding of RHDPE/EVA/TP composites. The effects of TP loading and the addition of PE-g-MAH on the tensile properties and thermal stability of RHDPE/EVA/TP composites were investigated and studied. Findings indicated that increased TP loading will reduce tensile strength and elongation at break while increasing the modulus of elasticity. The thermal stability of RHDPE/EVA/TP composites improved by increasing filler loading. With respect to both tensile properties and thermal stability, RHDPE/EVA/TP composites with PE-g-MAH performed better than the composites without the addition of compatibilizers.

The effect of salicylic acid as a coupling agent on the tensile properties, and morphology analysis of recycled high density polyethylene/wood fiber (rHDPE/WF) composites were studied. Both composites rHDPE/WF and rHDPE/WFM (treatment with salicylic acid) were prepared using Brabender Plasticorder at temperature of 160°C and rotor speed of 50 rpm. The result indicated that rHDPE/WFM composites with salicylic acid exhibit higher tensile strength and modulus of elasticity but lower elongation at break than rHDPE/WF composites. The SEM micrographs showed that the wood fiber was more widely dispersed in the rHDPE matrix with addition of ethyl salicylate than rHDPE/WFM.
