Maintenance service is the necessary organizational structure in the modern manufacturing company. Everyday maintenance services operation would be greatly impeded without a computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) software. CMMS allows to manage company’s equipment, planning inspections and maintenance and management supervision procedures and service documentation. The aim of this study is to present the analysis of the manufacturing company in the maintenance department, the main objectives of the company related to the maintenance, a pre-implementation analysis (objectives, assumptions, hard results, ABC analysis), and proposals to choose computerised maintenance management systems, which will allow to reduce failures, downtime and maintenance costs.

Abstract The ISO 9000 series of standards are among the best-known standards developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation ISO. They provide guidance and guidelines for companies and organisations that want their products and services to satisfy customer requirements and their quality to be continuously improved. However, the need for recertification of the Quality Management System (QMS) based on ISO 9001 is increasingly being discussed by managers. The questions asked are: is it necessary to have such a certificate in order to maintain high product quality and customer satisfaction? What is the balance of benefits and losses for maintaining a certificate of this standard? The authors of the paper will try to answer these questions based on the experience of a medium-sized metal manufacturing company.

The increasing awareness of the importance of a proper building maintenance management system becomes the main contributing factor for the development of facilities management worldwide. Various building maintenance management system tools become necessary to remain competitive. The widespread use of mobile devices envisions a growing market for new applications in building maintenance. It is well-understood that the use of mobile technologies is critical in building maintenance as the right information needs to be delivered to the right person, at the right time, and at the right place. However, existing building maintenance applications only support the delivery of static modes of information (such as building data and checklists); the information is pre-programmed and is thus not able to take into account the users varying contexts. Building maintenance applications could be made easy and responsive to users wishes if they were context-aware. This paper discusses the key issues in building maintenance management systems and their potential for the use of context-aware computing. Findings show that many building maintenance management systems are complicated and only slowly being adopted in Malaysia. In conclusion, it was found that context-aware building maintenance systems have the potential to simplify the process and increase the usage of computerized maintenance management systems.

This paper presents a statistical analysis of the performance of organizations and countries in the development, implementation and certification of the international standard SA 8000 on social accountability in their operations. Data obtained from the international organization SAAS (Social Accountability Accreditation Services) were analyzed using bar charts, percentages and Pareto (ABC) analysis. The results showed that the highest number of organizations having certified management system in conformity with the requirements of SA 8000, and also the highest number of personnel in certified organizations were concentrated in Asia, and that the most widespread branches of industry in regard to the certification of their management systems in conformity with the requirements of this standard are such branches as construction, apparel, and textiles industries.

This paper describes the growing need for a novel approach to a Condition Monitoring Database Management System (CMDBMS). Through the study of a condition monitoring case and the examination of commonly used maintenance management systems, the needs of this system have been identified. From the case study, it has been found that to obtain maintenance information a CMDBMS requires capabilities including data organization, data processing and data collection information. However, existing systems, which are used in the maintenance community only have some of the capabilities and hence provide limited assistance for maintenance activity. Therefore, a novel approach to a CMDBMS has been suggested to meet the needs of condition monitoring data management.
