Suitability evaluation is the important basis for scientifically determining the direction of land reclamation. This paper deeply elaborates the goal of land reclamation and the principles of suitability evaluation. land reclamation direction of the project area is initially determines to be cultivated land, forest land, grassland and garden plot based on region land-use planning and analysis of natural factors, socio-economic factors, policy factors of the mining area; the evaluation index system including five involved factors is constructed, and the suitability evaluation of evaluation units is carried out by the comprehensive index method and extreme conditions. Based on above-mentioned evaluation, the land reclamation direction of 14 evaluation units are ultimately determined by comprehensive analysis of the local natural conditions, social conditions and so on.

Reclamation suitability evaluation is the basis for determining the reuse direction of damaged land. Limit condition method is the most widely used method in land reclamation suitability evaluation at present. In this paper, the limit condition method is used to evaluate the suitability of land reclamation of damaged land in Pingdingshan Tianan ten coal mine. The evaluation index of damaged area is determined as six main factors: field slope/land flatness, ponding, depth of collapse, soil texture, thickness of soil layer, irrigation and drainage conditions, and finally determine the reclamation direction of the land to be reclaimed in combination with the overall local land use planning and the overall wishes of local residents.

The ecological environment is fragile in Xinjiang, so it is necessary to carry out land reclamation for mines to restore its ecology. The premise of mines land reclamation is to determine the direction of land reclamation, which requires the suitability evaluation for land reclamation. In this paper, the evaluation index system and suitability evaluation model for land reclamation of nonmetallic mines in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region were established. This model was established by using factor analysis, cluster analysis, and discriminant analysis and tested by back-substitution. First, using 149 units of 21 nonmetallic mines as research samples, the samples were divided into 4 categories by a combination of factor and cluster analysis. Then, the samples were trained using a discriminant analysis method to establish the corresponding land reclamation suitability evaluation model. This model was verified by back-substitution with an accuracy of 98.7%, and only 2 of 149 samples were misclassified. Finally, the evaluation model was applied to the Dabancheng Toga Solo limestone mine in Urumqi. Evaluation analysis of 15 land reclamation units of this mine showed satisfactory results. The evaluation model developed here could serve as a powerful complement to the evaluation of land reclamation suitability in Xinjiang.

This paper constructs the evaluation index system of electricity competitiveness in terminal energy consumption, evaluates the electricity competitiveness in Ningxia region from 2005 to 2011 using principal component analysis (PCA), and compares the evaluation results of PCA, the linear weighted method, the comprehensive index method and TOPSIS-grey correlation method. The compatibility degree and difference degree of each method are analyzed and calculated to verify the applicability of the PCA. The results show that PCA is the most scientific and appropriate evaluation method.

The concept of coal mining area land (CMAL) development suitability was defined, and evaluation index system of CMAL was constructed by AHP. Considering the characteristic of linguistic-based attribute, an ideal-point-based approach to CMAL development suitability evaluation was introduced. Based on the definition of positive ideal-point and deviation, deviation between alternative and positive ideal-point of alternative were given, and the process of ideal-point-based approach to CMAL development suitability evaluation was also provided. Taking Jixi coal mining area in Heilongjiang province as an application case, and its land development suitability was evaluated. The result shows that the method of ideal-point-based approach to CMAL development suitability evaluation is effective.

By means of conceptual model of pressure-state-response model and the method of analytic hierarchy process, evaluation index system of ecological environment was built. Evaluation of ecological security was quantitatively calculated based on comprehensive index method. The evaluation of development trend and diversity of ecological security was conduct in the case of a typical coal resource-exhausted city-Zaozhuang city in China. The results show that ecological security of Zaozhuang city is in good tendency with little fluctuation in 2001-2009 and ecological security indexes in various districts with different coal mining histories are of some differences in Zaozhuang city.

With the acceleration of urbanization, the problem of urban risk becomes more and more serious, so it is imperative to build a resilient city. Vulnerability and toughness are interrelated. Vulnerability analysis and evaluation is the way to realize the resilience city. Taking Henan province as an example, this study from the resource, ecological environment, economy, social four aspects to build the urban vulnerability evaluation index system, using the comprehensive index method of the vulnerability of various municipalities nearly 10 years of Henan province to measure and study the dynamic evolution process, so as to provide theoretical reference for toughness of city construction and the practice application.

Ecosystem health assessment (EHA) is one of the most important aspects in ecosystem management. Nowadays, ecological environment of mining cities is facing various problems. In this study, through ecosystem health theory and remote sensing images in 2005, 2009 and 2013, landscape pattern analysis and Vigor-Organization-Resilience (VOR) model were applied to set up an evaluation index system of ecosystem health of mining city to assess the healthy level of ecosystem in Panji District Huainan city. Results showed a temporal stable but high spatial heterogeneity landscape pattern during 2005–2013. According to the regional ecosystem health index, it experienced a rapid decline after a slight increase, and finally it maintained at an ordinary level. Among these areas, a significant distinction was presented in different towns. It indicates that the ecosystem health of Tianjijiedao town, the regional administrative centre, descended rapidly during the study period, and turned into the worst level in the study area. While the Hetuan Town, located in the northwestern suburb area of Panji District, stayed on a relatively better level than other towns. The impacts of coal mining collapse area, land reclamation on the landscape pattern and ecosystem health status of mining cities were also discussed. As a result of underground coal mining, land subsidence has become an inevitable problem in the study area. In addition, the coal mining subsidence area has brought about the destruction of the farmland, construction land and water bodies, which causing the change of the regional landscape pattern and making the evaluation of ecosystem health in mining area more difficult. Therefore, this study provided an ecosystem health approach for relevant departments to make scientific decisions.
