In this article, Pt nanoparticles protected by 1-dodecanethiol (DDT) were self-assembled on iron surface forming mixed self-assembled films. Those nanoparticles were prepared in aqueous solution and transferred from water phase to toluene phase. The self-assembled films of nanoparticles protected by DDT were prepared on iron surface. The nanoparticles were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), polarization curves, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were applied to characterize the self-assembled films on iron surface.

The Self-Assembled (SA) films of glutamic acid derivatives were prepared on the iron surface. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization techniques were used to investigate the protection abilities of these films against iron corrosion in 0.1 M H2SO4 solution. The results of EIS and polarization curves indicated that films of the glutamic acid derivatives were able to protect iron from corrosion effectively.

Carbon nanotubes/alumina (CNTs/Al2O3) nanocomposites were prepared by the poly (dopamine) assisted chemical liquid phase deposition (CLPD). The poly (dopamine) layers were firstly coated on the CNTs surface uniformly by the self-oxidative polymerization of dopamine in mild aqueous solution and then the Al2O3 nanoparticles formed on the poly (dopamine) coated CNTs surface by the CLPD. The hydrophilic poly (dopamine) layers on the CNTs surface can improve the dispersion of CNTs in aqueous solution. Moreover, it can be used as a key linker between the CNTs and Al2O3 because of the nitrogen-containing group in poly (dopamine) could coordinate with Al3+ ions. The as-prepared poly (dopamine) coated CNTs and CNTs/Al2O3 nanohybrids were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-radial diffractometer (XRD) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). These results showed that the poly (dopamine) layers were coated on the surface of CNTs uniformly, and the Al2O3 nanoparticles embellished with the poly (dopamine) coated CNTs surface. Compared with pristine NR composites, the thermal conductivity of the as-prepared NR/CNTs@Al2O3 composites increased 17%.

Sulfur-doped SnO2 nanoparticles with ultrafine sizes have been successfully prepared by a one-pot hydrothermal method. The obtained samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), thermogravimetric (TG), analyzer UV-Vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The experimental results indicate that the doping level of sulfur element as well as the bandgaps of SnO2 can be controlled to a certain extent by varying the amount of L-cysteine (L-cys). When evaluated as photocatalysts in the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) and reduction of Cr(VI) under visible light region, the resultant sulfur-doped SnO2 nanoparticles demonstrate obviously enhanced photocatalytic activities due to the markedly improved visible light response and effective separation of the photo-generated electron–hole pairs.

Nb-doped TiO2 powders with different concentrations of Nb have been synthesized by a sol-gel method and characterized by a series of technologies including X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of Nb-doped TiO2 is evaluated by degradation efficiency of methyl orange in aqueous solution. The results indicate that the photocatalytic activity of Nb-doped TiO2 synthesized with a Nb/Ti molar ratio of 5% is higher than that of TiO2 under the visible light.

ABSTRACTElectroless synthesis and hierarchical organization of 1.4 nm Pd and Pt nanoparticles (NPs) on self-assembled Rosette Nanotubes (RNTs) is described. The nucleated NPs are nearly monodisperse and reveal supramolecular organizations guided by RNT templates. Interestingly, the narrow size distribution is attributable to unique templating behavior of RNTs. The resulting metal NP-RNT composites were characterized by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) was also performed to confirm the nature and composition of RNT-templated NPs.
