The domestic and foreign evaluations of ecosystem service value are difficult to draw on results accepted by the public and academia. This reflects the research methods are still not mature, need to continue to be improved. In this paper, an attempt has been made to give urban unit value of ecosystem services and set up the values per unit area in southwestern Guizhou of China, in accordance with unit value of global ecosystem services developed by Costanza, et al., Chinese one by Xie, et al. and the actual situation of karst region. The analysis revealed that in the study area, the total ecosystem service value is $1.876×109 in 2006, equivalent to 104.3% of 2006 GDP (Gross Domestic Product), $1.799×109(1US$=7.8136,2006). If the rocks change into forest in the study area, ecosystem service value will add $0.221×109, equivalent to 12.28% of GDP in 2006. Therefore, we conclude that the ecosystem services value is higher, compared to the local economy. In addition, the rocky desertification area is larger, and has already seriously influenced ecosystem service function. The tasks of ecological environment protection, propaganda and education in this region are of great significance.

In this study, we applied gross ecosystem product (GEP) theory in a case study to analyze and explain the natural resource asset value and ecosystem service value of forest resources in Jiaokou County, Shanxi Province, Northern China, in 2018. GEP refers to the total value of various final material products and services provided by ecosystems. In this paper, six service functions of a forest system, including water conservation, soil conservation, carbon fixation and oxygen release, forest nutrients, purification of atmospheric environment, and biodiversity, are valued by three calculation methods: the alternative cost method, market value method, and control cost method. The study revealed the following: (1) There is a parallel relationship between the value of natural resource assets and the value of ecosystem services. GEP includes the market value of natural resource assets, but it is mostly the value of ecosystem services. (2) The measurement of the physical quantity of forest ecosystem services depends on parameter data, and the monetary calculation often has no mature pricing basis, which leads to the large scale and uncertainty surrounding the evaluation results of ecosystem services. (3) The ecosystem service value and natural resource asset value have different practical significance, as well as alternate theoretical bases. The value of natural resource assets can be used as the asset valuation basis of economic transactions, which plays a role in macroeconomic management. The value of ecosystem services can be used as the basis of ecological compensation, providing information for the preparation of the balance sheet of natural resources.

The process of ecosystem service value evaluation has developed from the use of a single economic value that only accounts for material products to an assessment of ecological value and the value of ecosystem services. However, due to the complexity of ecosystems and different understandings of ecosystem service values, different classification methods of ecosystem services and service values have been developed internationally, and this has resulted in a lack of clarity regarding the correlation between ecosystem service value and various ecosystems. The correspondence between the system and each value type is not clear; therefore, based on an analysis of the inadequacy of domestic and foreign ecosystem service classification systems and methods, this study constructed a new accounting framework for non-monetary ecosystem service functions based on emergy analysis and integrated monetary accounting methods. The practical application of the method was also researched. The research results re-classified the value of ecosystem services, established an accounting method for various ecosystem service values, clarified the principle of addition in accounting, and avoided double counting. In the empirical analysis, a large number of correlation coefficients, parameters, and index values found in the foreign literature were used, so, our method also has value for international use.

China launched a series of ecological restoration policies to mitigate its severe environmental challenges in the late 1990s. From the beginning, the effects and influences of the ecological restoration policies have been hotly debated. In the present study, we assessed the effects of two vital ecological restoration policies (Grain-for-Green and Grain-for-Blue) on valued ecosystem services in Shandong province. A new method based on the net primary productivity and soil erosion was developed to assess the ecosystem service value. In the areas implementing the Grain-for-Green and Grain-for-Blue policies, the ecosystem service value increased by 24.01% and 43.10% during 2000–2008, respectively. However, comparing to the average increase of ecosystem service value (46.00%) in the whole of Shandong province in the same period, Grain-for-Green and Grain-for-Blue did not significantly improve overall ecosystem services. The ecological restoration policy led to significant tradeoffs in ecosystem services. Grain-for-Green improved the ecosystem service function of nutrient cycling, organic material provision, and regulation of gases but decreased that of water conservation. Grain-for-Blue increased the water conservation function but led to a reduction in the function of soil conservation and nutrient cycling.

With the development of society, ecological environmental protection has become more and more important. In this paper, an Ecosystem Service Value Model (ESVM) was developed to quantify the value of all types of ecosystem services. Through the ecosystem service value evaluation index system we established, we determined ecosystem service value equivalent factors of different ecosystem services. Then we combine the baseline value of the ecosystem service value equivalent factor to determine the ecosystem service value per unit area of different ecosystems. The amount of ecological service value reduction can be calculated with the amount of change in ecosystem area caused by land use projects. Ecological costs are equal to the reduction in the value of ecosystem services. The true economic cost of land use project consists of two parts: project construction cost and ecological cost. The model established in this paper considers the effects of time changes. And the introduction of dynamic adjustment of biomass changes and dynamic adjustment of currency changes make the model more adaptable to time changes. The research can evaluate the value of ecosystem services, which promotes the harmonious development of human and ecological environment.

Land use change has an impact on the ecosystem service value because it changes the structure and function of ecosystems. This paper analyzed the changes in land use during the period from 2000 to 2015 in Shangzhou district, and used the equivalent value of ecological services per unit area of land ecosystem combining the natural and economic conditions of Shangzhou district. Based on this method, the ecological service value of Shangzhou district was estimated, and the impact of land use change on the ecological service value was analyzed. The results showed that: (1) the main types of land use in Shangzhou district were grassland, woodland and farmland, among which the contribution rate of woodland to the value of local ecosystem services was the highest; (2) the overall trend in the ecosystem service value in Shangzhou district increased between 2000 and 2015, from 10.74 × 108 yuan in 2000 to 20.32 × 108 yuan in 2015, which is the result of the combined effects of regional economic development and changes in the natural environment and land use patterns; and (3) the main reason for the value increase of ecosystem services in Shangzhou district between 2000 and 2015 was that the grain-for-green policy transformed a considerable amount of farmland into woodland, while the main reasons for a decline in value was the expansion of built-up land that occupied other types of land.

Urbanization-induced land-use change will lead to variations in the demand and supply of ecosystem services, thus significantly affecting regional ecosystem services. The continuous degradation of ecosystem functions has become a serious problem for humanity to solve. Therefore, quantitative analysis of the corresponding impact of land-use change on ecosystem service value (ESV) is important to socio-economic development and ecological protection. The Anhui province in China has experienced rapid urbanization in recent years, and ecological environmental remediation and protection have become important goals for regional development. In this paper, the province of Anhui has been selected as a case of study, we analyzed the land-use change using Landsat images from 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015. We then adjusted the equivalent factor of ESV per unit area and estimated the ESV of Anhui province from 2000 to 2015 to analyze the impact of land-use change on ESV. Our results show that (1) paddy field is the main land-use type in Anhui province, the built-up land area has continuously increased, and the water area has continuously decreased; (2) the total ESV of Anhui province decreased from 30,015.58 × 107 CNY in 2000 to 29,683.74 × 107 CNY in 2015 (the rate of change was −1.11%), and regulating services make the greatest contribution to ESV; and (3) land-use change has led to severe ESV variations, especially for the expansion of water area and built-up land. Our study results provide useful insights for the development of land-use management and environmental protection policies in Anhui province.

In this paper, we used TM image data in the lower reaches of the Tarim River as well as ecosystem service value assessment methods, and assessed the change of regional land use/ cover and analyzed its ecosystem service value, and discussed the driving forces of the change factors. The results show that : the study area is mainly grassland and desert grasslands accounted for more than 43% , the desert about 32% , less than 6% of the forest area , waters and wetlands area , less than 1% of the total area, which mean that the area is mainly the oasis agriculture , desertification serious water shortages. Since 2000, the , the ecological restoration project significantly effective under the emergency water conveyance on the lower reaches of the Tarim River, woodland restoration and water area increased , the desert area has decreased. GDP continued to increase from 2000 to 2005, the value of ecosystem services greatly reduce. In a shorter time scale, agricultural development and human activity are the dominant factors of the transfer of the value of ecosystem structure adjustment and service functions in the study area.

The ecosystem service value on Ximen Island was calculated using the value table of ecosystem services proposed by Xie et al. according to the land use data from 2006–2017. The STIRPAT model was used to analyze the driving mechanisms of ecosystem services on Ximen Island. The results show that the ecosystem service value of Ximen Island has gradually decreased from 2006 to 2017, and the value of ecosystem services has decreased by 15.842 million Yuan over 10 years. Applying the principal component analysis method can effectively eliminate the collinearity problem in the process of regression analysis. The value of ecosystem services has a high correlation with socio-economic variables. The total population, GDP per capita, the increased rate of forestry output, the proportion of primary industry, and the Engel coefficient are all important driving factors that affect the change of valuable ecosystem services on Ximen Island. Among them, the proportion of primary industry is positive, and the other 4 indicators are negative. The rate of increase in forestry output has the greatest negative impact. A 1% increase in the total population, in the GDP per capita, in the rate of forestry output, in the proportion of primary industry, and in the Engel coefficient results in ecosystem service values varying by 0.199%, 0.165%, 0.289%, -0.144%, and 0.252%, respectively.

Abstract. In this paper, we calculated comparable and dynamic ecosystem service value per unit area in the riparian zone of Second Songhua River; then we also estimated changes in the value of ecosystem services resulting from land use changes; finally, we continuously evaluated the riparian ecosystem service value based on 520 basic evaluation units (BEUs) and explored the trend of the riparian ecosystem service value from 1986 to 2012. The results indicated that comparable economic values of per unit area food production of farmland ecosystems in 2012 almost increased three times more than that in 1986 from 154.83 to 382.45 $ ha−1; the people's willingness to pay for farmland ecosystem services increased from 0.24 in 1986 to 0.48 in 2012; the land areas supporting the environment and society generally declined, whereas areas of farmland significantly increased from 1986 to 2012; the riparian total ecosystem service value increased from 42.30 million $ in 1986 to 119.67 million $ in 2012, with an average increase rate of 4.06 % yr−1; the ecosystem service value of four reaches all have seen a sharp increase from 1986 to 2012; the average ecosystem service value of a reach was the smallest one in the four reaches, and the value of c and d reach was significantly more than other two reaches.

Land use changes significantly impacts ecosystem services and functions. The estimation of ecosystem services value is conducive to clarifying the ecological changes in response to LULC changes due to urbanization. Chengde was the upper water source of Beijing and Tianjin, the ecosystem is very fragile. After a series of ecology conservation projects like "returning cropland to forestry", the ecosystem service value increased from 5100.17 x 107 Yuan in 1990 to 5104.08 x 107 Yuan in 2008 respectively, with the average increase of 2.3 x 106 Yuan per year. It is indicated that ecosystem service value has the potential to inform policy decisions by emphasizing the benefits of sustainable ecosystem management. So plans on land use management should be made to maintain a balance between urbanization and ecosystem health.
