Facing at the situation that a large amount of BaSO4/SrSO4, which seriously impacts on oil production operation scale, has been yielded during oilfield production, three kinds of scale inhibitor (TS-09, TH-60 and PBTCA) were collected from oilfield for comprehensive evaluation. The results show that the three kinds of scale inhibitor have certain scale inhibition effect to BaSO4/SrSO4, and the influence of different water quality is obvious. When TH-60 concentration was 100 mg/L, its inhibition rate to BaSO4 has reached 95%. In comparison, scale inhibition effect of TH-60 to BaSO4/SrSO4 is better than the others. TH-60 is more suitable for Huaqing oilfield than TS-09 and PBTCA, concentrations range in 100-180 mg/L especially.

Phosphorus scale inhibitor is a kind of agent which can disperse insoluble inorganic salts in water, prevent or interfere with the precipitation and scaling of insoluble inorganic salts on metal surface, and maintain better heat transfer effect of metal equipment. Sodium triethylenetetramine hexamethylphosphonate (TETHMPS) and tetraethylenepentamine heptagon methylene phosphonic (TEPHMPS) were prepared by one-step synthesis method. The effects of temperature, concentration and mixing ratio on scale inhibition were investigated. The results showed that as the concentration of TETHMPS and TEPHMPS increases, the scale inhibition rate increases. At the same temperature, compared with TETHMPS, TEPHMPS has better scale inhibition performance, and the maximum scale inhibition rate can reach 93.59%. The scale inhibition rate of the synthesized scale inhibitor at 80 °C is better than that at 60 °C. The scale inhibition performance of the compound scale inhibitor is better than that of the single scale inhibitor, showing an ideal synergistic effect. When the concentration is 60 mg/L, the scale inhibition rate of TETHMPS is 94.26%, TEPHMPS is 94.55%, and the scale inhibition rate is above 91%.

A copolymer was prepared from epoxy succinic acid (ESA) and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid (AMPS). The structure of the ESA/AMPS copolymer was characterized by means of FTIR. The performances of scale inhibition, dispersion and biodegradability of the ESA/AMPS copolymer were studied. The results showed that the scale inhibition performance of the ESA/AMPS copolymer on calcium phosphate and dispersing performance on ferric oxide were much better than PESA. The scale inhibition rate on calcium carbonate was 85% when the ESA/AMPS copolymer was 8mg/L. The scale inhibition rate on calcium phosphate was 65% when the ESA/AMPS copolymer was 30mg/L. The ESA/AMPS copolymer had good biodegradation performance and biodegradation rate could reach 65% after 28 days.

Abstract In the Rocky Mountain region of the United States, high-salinity brines (total dissolved solids > 250, 000 mg/L) present during oil and gas production cause severe scale problems in the Williston Basin. The scales include not only calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, barium sulfate, strontium sulfate, but also sodium chloride (halite). This paper presents the development of test methods and their corresponding testing results for scale inhibitor evaluations in the laboratory and their applications in the field for high-salinity brines. It is well known that there is no effective test method for halite scale inhibitor laboratory testing due to the difficulty of controlling the amount of halite precipitation and reproducibility in the test. The evaluation of scale inhibitor performance was conducted by using a tube-blocking test and a static bottle test with synthetic high-salinity brines from the Williston Basin. Two sets of brines were designed, based on the field brine, and were tested with two methods. One set of brine was for halite scale inhibitor evaluation by mixing near-saturated NaCl synthetic brine with a highly concentrated brine of CaCl2·2H2O + NaCl. The second set of brine was designed to evaluate scale inhibitor performance on calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, barium sulfate, and strontium sulfate by modified brines. Three types of scale inhibitors were used for the performance evaluations, including halite scale inhibitors, general scale inhibitors, and a multifunctional scale inhibitor. The lab test results showed the multifuntinal scale inhibitor exhibited good scale inhibition performance for both sets of scale testing. Successful scale inhibitor implementations in the field applications and case history are also presented in this paper.

The scale inhibition of the ESA/AMPS copolymer under the magnetic field or electrostatic field was researched by using static scale inhibition experiments. The result showed that there were synergistic scale inhibition effect between magnetic field and ESA/AMPS copolymer, and the electrostatic field and ESA/AMPS copolymer also had synergistic scale inhibition. The scale inhibition rate of both magnetic field and ESA/AMPS copolymer on CaCO3 increased by 12% as compared with that of ESA/AMPS copolymer alone. And the synergistic scale inhibition rate on Ca3(PO4)2 increased by 42.4% .The increased scale inhibition rate of the ESA / AMPS copolymer on CaCO3 with electrostatic field was 19%,and the scale inhibition rate on Ca3(PO4)2 could increace 73.3%.

With the improvement of living standards, air conditioning becomes the requisite of people’s life; the central air conditioning has become each big building of major appliances[1]. In the whole air conditioning cooling water treatment system, such as scale and sludge which is formed by the metal corrosion phenomenon, will seriously affect the use efficiency of air conditioning. One of the effective solution is adding scale inhibitor to the circulating water. Calcium carbonate deposition method is used to evaluate the scale inhibition rate of PASP, PESA and poly glutamic acid. then evaluate the scale inhibition rate of two compound formula. Results show that PESA with the best scale inhibitor performance, on the basis of its, respectively, compound with PASP and poly glutamic acid. The compound repice can improve the efficiency of scale inhibition. The optimized prescription is that, the PASP is 4mg/L, the PESA is 6mg/L, at this time of scale inhibition efficiency can reach 93.43%.

The terpolymer was synthesized by maleic anhydride (MA), acrylic acid (AA) and methyl acrylate (MAC) and the structure was also conformed. Its scale inhibition effect was also studied in high barium and strontium ion concentration aqueous medium and simulated formation water (Ca2+, Mg2+, Ba2+, Si2+) condition. The results indicate that when additive amount of AA/MAC/MA is 60 mg/L, the inhibition rate is up to 100% and 80% for BaSO4 scale and SrSO4 scale respectively, but only 50% for calcium scale. And the scale inhibition rate moderately increases with the dosage increasing. The scale inhibition effect of AA/MAC/MA is also very obvious in simulated formation water containing low calcium ions (400 mg/L) and high barium ions (500 mg/L) as well as strontium ions (500 mg/L). It can satisfy the need of restraining composite scale (BaSO4 scale and SrSO4 scale as well as CaSO4 scale) in high calcium and barium strontium ion aqueous medium when compounded with calcium scale inhibitors CY and CX respectively.

Compared with inorganic phosphonates, organic phosphonates have better chemical stability in water treatment, and are not easy to hydrolyze in higher temperature and wider pH range. In this paper, a one-step synthesis method of ethylene diamine tetra (methylene phosphonic acid) sodium (EDTMPS) and methylene phosphonic acid (DTPMPA) were studied. A new phosphate scale inhibitor was prepared and its scale inhibition performance was evaluated. The results showed that the scale inhibition rate increased with the increase of the concentration of synthetic products (EDTMPS, DTPMPA). At the same concentration, compared with DTPMPA, EDTMPS has better scale inhibition performance, and the maximum scale inhibition rate can reach 96.85%. The scale inhibition performance of composite scale inhibitor is better than that of single scale inhibitor, and the scale inhibition rate of the synthesized products can reach more than 90% after compounding. And inhibitory mechanism has been proposed: Because phosphonates effectively control the rate of nucleation. In addition, polyphosphonates can chelate Ca2+, Mg2+ plasma to form monocyclic or bicyclic chelates. This will destroy the normal growth process of calcium carbonate and other crystals, thus preventing the formation of calcium carbonate scale.

The reclaimed water of domestic sewage reused in recycling cooling system has been widely spread and applied. Chemical scale inhibitors are the most economic and effective measures to prevent condensers and circulating pipes from scaling currently. Green scale inhibitor are highly regarded for their non-toxicity, phosphate-free, reproducibility and biodegradability. The paper selects two kinds of new green scale inhibitors used in the recycling cooling water of Beijing Thermoelectric Plant. By the measuring the scale inhibition rate, scaling amount, turbidity and SEM, it shows that Polyepoxysuccinic acid (PESA) is worth spreading and applying in the industrial recycling cooling system with reclaimed wastewater, for its high scale inhibition rate, good dispersion, low consumption, high economy and practicability.
