Research on the Scale Inhibition Performance of AA/MA/MAC Copolymer

The terpolymer was synthesized by maleic anhydride (MA), acrylic acid (AA) and methyl acrylate (MAC) and the structure was also conformed. Its scale inhibition effect was also studied in high barium and strontium ion concentration aqueous medium and simulated formation water (Ca2+, Mg2+, Ba2+, Si2+) condition. The results indicate that when additive amount of AA/MAC/MA is 60 mg/L, the inhibition rate is up to 100% and 80% for BaSO4 scale and SrSO4 scale respectively, but only 50% for calcium scale. And the scale inhibition rate moderately increases with the dosage increasing. The scale inhibition effect of AA/MAC/MA is also very obvious in simulated formation water containing low calcium ions (400 mg/L) and high barium ions (500 mg/L) as well as strontium ions (500 mg/L). It can satisfy the need of restraining composite scale (BaSO4 scale and SrSO4 scale as well as CaSO4 scale) in high calcium and barium strontium ion aqueous medium when compounded with calcium scale inhibitors CY and CX respectively.

The binary polymer AA/SAS was synthesized by acrylic acid (AA) and sodium allylsulfonate (SAS), named as AS and its structure was characterized. Its scale inhibition performance was also investigated for single CaCO3, CaSO4 scales, and composite scales in simulated formation water containing Ca2+, Mg2+, Ba2+ and Sr2+. The results indicate that when adding 50mg/L of the inhibitor, it is 85.05% efficient for CaCO3 inhibition and 98.85% for CaSO4, but only 49.05% and 51.58% for BaSO4 and SrSO4 separately. The scale inhibition performance is obvious in the simulated formation water with high concentration of calcium (1300mg/L) and low barium ion (100mg/L ), the inhibition efficiency are both above 85% at a dosage of 80mg/L. And it can fairly satisfy the demand of inhibiting composite scales (CaCO3 scale, CaSO4 scale, BaSO4 scale and SrSO4 scale), when AS and CT was combined at a mass ratio of 2:1 in high calcium , barium and strontium ions contained formation water, being 95.3% efficient at the dosage of 100mg/L.

Compared with inorganic phosphonates, organic phosphonates have better chemical stability in water treatment, and are not easy to hydrolyze in higher temperature and wider pH range. In this paper, a one-step synthesis method of ethylene diamine tetra (methylene phosphonic acid) sodium (EDTMPS) and methylene phosphonic acid (DTPMPA) were studied. A new phosphate scale inhibitor was prepared and its scale inhibition performance was evaluated. The results showed that the scale inhibition rate increased with the increase of the concentration of synthetic products (EDTMPS, DTPMPA). At the same concentration, compared with DTPMPA, EDTMPS has better scale inhibition performance, and the maximum scale inhibition rate can reach 96.85%. The scale inhibition performance of composite scale inhibitor is better than that of single scale inhibitor, and the scale inhibition rate of the synthesized products can reach more than 90% after compounding. And inhibitory mechanism has been proposed: Because phosphonates effectively control the rate of nucleation. In addition, polyphosphonates can chelate Ca2+, Mg2+ plasma to form monocyclic or bicyclic chelates. This will destroy the normal growth process of calcium carbonate and other crystals, thus preventing the formation of calcium carbonate scale.

A copolymer was prepared from epoxy succinic acid (ESA) and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid (AMPS). The structure of the ESA/AMPS copolymer was characterized by means of FTIR. The performances of scale inhibition, dispersion and biodegradability of the ESA/AMPS copolymer were studied. The results showed that the scale inhibition performance of the ESA/AMPS copolymer on calcium phosphate and dispersing performance on ferric oxide were much better than PESA. The scale inhibition rate on calcium carbonate was 85% when the ESA/AMPS copolymer was 8mg/L. The scale inhibition rate on calcium phosphate was 65% when the ESA/AMPS copolymer was 30mg/L. The ESA/AMPS copolymer had good biodegradation performance and biodegradation rate could reach 65% after 28 days.

Intermediate vector polysuccinimide (PSI) was prepared by polymerization of malefic acid and ammonia at 180°Cin this article. Hydrophilic polyaspartic acid (PASP) derivative was prepared from amino-sulfonic and PSI; Lipophilic PASP derivative was prepared from PSI and diisopropylamine. Their scale inhibition rates of calcium carbonate were evaluated by static scale experiments. The inhibition rate of calcium carbonate was 90.2% when n(amino-sulfonic): n(PSI) =1:14 and the dosage of pharmaceutical was 12mg / L. The inhibition rate of calcium carbonate was 87.6% when n(diisopropylamine):n(PSI)=1:8 and the dosage of pharmaceutical was 15mg /L. The calcium carbonate that collected from static state experiments was analysised by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that polyaspartic acid derivatives were synthesized which had the best overall performance when n (amino-sulfonic): n (PSI) = 1:14.

The static scale inhibition method will be used to evaluate the scale inhibition performance of HEDP. In order to study the corrosion inhibition of 20A steel with additive of HEDP in the industrial boiler water medium,the total iron ions in the solution are determined through autoclave static experiments. The results indicated that the scale inhibition efficiency,in the simulation boiler water with a certain concentration ratio and temperature,reached the maximum when CHEDP is 7 mg/L. It has a good corrosion inhibition effect on the 20A steel when the HEDP concentration exceeds 15ppm.

Facing at the situation that a large amount of BaSO4/SrSO4, which seriously impacts on oil production operation scale, has been yielded during oilfield production, three kinds of scale inhibitor (TS-09, TH-60 and PBTCA) were collected from oilfield for comprehensive evaluation. The results show that the three kinds of scale inhibitor have certain scale inhibition effect to BaSO4/SrSO4, and the influence of different water quality is obvious. When TH-60 concentration was 100 mg/L, its inhibition rate to BaSO4 has reached 95%. In comparison, scale inhibition effect of TH-60 to BaSO4/SrSO4 is better than the others. TH-60 is more suitable for Huaqing oilfield than TS-09 and PBTCA, concentrations range in 100-180 mg/L especially.

The scale inhibition of the ESA/AMPS copolymer under the magnetic field or electrostatic field was researched by using static scale inhibition experiments. The result showed that there were synergistic scale inhibition effect between magnetic field and ESA/AMPS copolymer, and the electrostatic field and ESA/AMPS copolymer also had synergistic scale inhibition. The scale inhibition rate of both magnetic field and ESA/AMPS copolymer on CaCO3 increased by 12% as compared with that of ESA/AMPS copolymer alone. And the synergistic scale inhibition rate on Ca3(PO4)2 increased by 42.4% .The increased scale inhibition rate of the ESA / AMPS copolymer on CaCO3 with electrostatic field was 19%,and the scale inhibition rate on Ca3(PO4)2 could increace 73.3%.

Static and dynamic experiments were used to evaluate scale inhibition performance of modified polyaspartic acid (PASP-ASP). The static experiments showed that the PASP-ASP had good scale inhibition performance and the scale inhibition rate exceeded 98% when the PASP-ASP was 2 mg·L-1 and the solution temperature was 40 OC. In the dynamic experiments, almost no scale was formed on the heat transfer surface and the fouling thermal resistance decreases extraordinarily with PASP-ASP treatment experiment compared with the experiment without treatment. The PASP-ASP could be used in industrial cooling water systems.

The synergistic scale inhibition effect of rare-earth permanent magnetic material and polyaspartic acid is studied. The performance of synergistic scale inhibition is studied in different magnetic field intensity, water hardness and rate of concentration. Static and dynamic scale inhibition tests show that the two water treatment ways have good synergistic scale inhibition effect. The scale inhibition performance of polyaspartic acid can be increased greatly by the magnetization of water.
