Nickel nanoparticles were synthesized from liquid precursor via H-plasma reduction route. XRD patterns revealed that pure metallic nickel powders could be obtained when nickel ammine complex aqueous solution was used as precursor. FESEM showed that the products are composed of well-dispersed nanospheres with an average diameter less than 100 nm. The tap density is about 3.85g/cm3, and the sheet resistance of the conductive film prepared using the nickel particles is about 58mΩ.

Nickel nanoparticles (Ni-NPs) are widely used for multiple purposes in industries. Ni-NPs exposure is detrimental to ecosystems owing to widespread use, and so their toxicity is important to consider for real-world applications. This review mainly focuses on the notable pathophysiological activities of Ni-NPs in various research models. Ni-NPs are stated to be more toxic than bulk forms because of their larger surface area to volume ratio and are reported to provoke toxicity through reactive oxygen species generation, which leads to the upregulation of nuclear factor-κB and promotes further signaling cascades. Ni-NPs may contribute to provoking oxidative stress and apoptosis. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1α and mitogen-activated protein kinases pathways are involved in Ni-NPs associated toxicity. Ni-NPs trigger the transcription factors p-p38, p-JNK, p-ERK1/2, interleukin (IL)-3, TNF-α, IL-13, Fas, Cyt c, Bax, Bid protein, caspase-3, caspase-8, and caspase-9. Moreover, Ni-NPs have an occupational vulnerability and were reported to induce lung-related disorders owing to inhalation. Ni-NPs may cause serious effects on reproduction as Ni-NPs induced deleterious effects on reproductive cells (sperm and eggs) in animal models and provoked hormonal alteration. However, recent studies have provided limited knowledge regarding the important checkpoints of signaling pathways and less focused on the toxic limitation of Ni-NPs in humans, which therefore needs to be further investigated.

Abstract In this study, nickel nanoparticles were synthesized in ethanol using portable pulsed wire evaporation, which is a one-step physical method. From transmission electron microscopy images, it was found that the Ni nanoparticles exhibited a spherical shape with an average diameter of 7.3 nm. To prevent aggregation of the nickel nanoparticles, a polymer surfactant was added into the ethanol before the synthesis of nickel nanoparticles, and adsorbed on the freshly synthesized nickel nanoparticles during the wire explosion. The dispersion stability of the prepared nickel nanofluids was investigated by zeta-potential analyzer and Turbiscan optical analyzer. As a result, the optimum concentration of polymer surfactant to be added was suggested for the maximized dispersion stability of the nickel nanofluids.

Highly oriented hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings were prepared on titanium (Ti) substrates through a radio-frequency thermal plasma spraying method. XRD patterns showed that the HA coating layer had an structure with (00l) preferred crystal orientation. TEM observation showed that 200-800 nm-width prismatic crystals were formed in HA splats and the longitudinal axis of such prismatic crystals oriented vertical to the coating's surface. TEM images also indicate that the interface between prismatic crystals became compacted. SAD pattern show that the longitudinal axis of prismatic crystals corresponds to the <001> axis of HA.

In this work, nano-sized nickel particles were dispersed on multi-walled carbon nanotubes using multi-step impregnation method, to use them as hydrogen storage media. The dispersion degree of nickel particles on multi-walled carbon nanotubes is inversely proportional to the nickel concentration of solution. It was observed that the low nickel concentration is efficient to decorate nickel particles into the inner space. Multi-step impregnation method of MWNTs through several times with low nickel concentration is more efficient to manufacture Ni-MWNTs having well dispersed metallic nickel particles.
