Herein, the conductivity measurement technique is used to determine the interactions that may occur between polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) polymer and cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) surfactant in the presence of NaCl and Na2SO4 of fixed concentration at variable temperatures (298.15–323.15 K) with an interval of 5 K. In the absence or presence of salts, we observed three critical micelle concentrations (CMC) for the CPC + PVP mixture. In all situations, CMC1 values of CPC + PVP system were found to be higher in water than in attendance of salts (NaCl and Na2SO4). Temperature and additives have the tendency to affect counterion binding values. Various physico-chemical parameters were analyzed and demonstrated smoothly, including free energy (ΔG0m), enthalpy (ΔH0m) and entropy change (ΔS0m). The micellization process is achieved to be spontaneous based on the obtained negative ΔG0m values. The linearity of the ΔHmo and ΔSmo values is excellent. The intrinsic enthalpy gain (ΔH0*m) and compensation temperature (Tc) were calculated and discussed with logical points. Interactions of polymer hydrophobic chains or the polymer + surfactant associated with amphiphilic surface-active drugs can employ a strong impact on the behavior of the gels.

The use of chemical injection has been widely used in the oil field on a large scale. One of the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods to increase production from old oil fields is through polymer surfactant injection, which functions to reduce interfacial tension and water-oil mobility ratio. This study focuses on developing a simulation model for chemical injection of polymer surfactant reservoirs by hypothetically making heterogeneous reservoir models in each layer with dimensions of 10x10x4. It consists of one a vertical well which is producer well located at the top of the left corner and one an injection well which is located at the bottom of right corner. This study shows a comparison between surfactant injection, polymer injection and SP injection using the same surfactant and polymer concentration with a concentration of 1000 ppm with 0.3 PV. Oil recovery in polymer injection turned out to be quite high compared to other chemical injections. In polymer injection, the oil recovery was 4.17%. Meanwhile, surfactant injection and SP injection increased by 0.59% and 0.61, respectively.

The influence of the pseudoamphoteric zwitterionic surfactant cocamidopropylbetaine (CAPB) on the stabilizing flocculating properties of the aqueous suspensions of glauconite (GT) with cationic guar gum (CGG) at various pH values was investigated. The following techniques were used: turbidimetry, UV-VIS spectrophotometry, tensiometry, electrophoretic mobility measurements, SEM, CHN, XRD, and FT-IR. It was established that CGG is an effective glauconite flocculant. Moreover, the most probable mechanism that is responsible for flocculation is bridge flocculation resulting from polymer adsorption on the glauconite surface. The adsorption process is caused by electrostatic interactions between the negatively charged glauconite surface and the positively charged polymer. The amount of CGG adsorption increases with the increase of the pH, which was confirmed by the adsorption and zeta potential measurements. The addition of CAPB increases the amount of the polymer adsorption due to the formation of intermolecular polymer–surfactant complexes; however, it reduces flocculation effectiveness.

Abstract In this study, cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) modified diatomite and cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) modified diatomite were synthesized and used as conditioner in sewage sludge dewatering. The effects of these two types of modified diatomite on the dewaterability and settling performance of activated sludge were studied. The mechanism of the two types of modified diatomite in the activated sludge system was elucidated. The efficiency of CPAM-modified diatomite was better than that of CTAB-modified diatomite in improving the settleability and dewaterability performance of sludge. The results indicated that specific resistance to filtration (SRF) was decreased from 8.52×1012m/Kg to 0.92×1012 m/Kg, and the water content in the remaining sludge cake after pumping filtration was decreased from 92.2% to 68.1%. by adding 0.4% of CPAM-modified diatomite and pH=3.5, which result in optimal sludge settling of activated sludge. Further studies showed that the polymer/surfactant adsorbed in diatomite increased sludge dewaterability and improved the sedimentation rate as a result of stripping extracellular polymer substances (EPS) and damaging the internal structure of sludge conduce bound water releasing. According to scanning electron microscope(SEM) images, two types of modified diatomite powder not only kept the porous, but also shown more complete and uniform structure in comparison to nature diatomite.

The objective of this study is to construct a platelet-mediated delivery system for drug-incorporated nanospheres. Nanospheres of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA-NS) with different sizes and surface properties were prepared by changing the preparation parameters, such as the type of polymer surfactant, the concentration of polymer surfactant and PLGA, and the stirring rate. When incubated with platelets, PLGA-NS prepared with poly(vinyl alcohol) suppressed the platelet activation. Scanning electron microscopic and flow cytometry examinations revealed that platelets associated with PLGA-NS (platelet hybrids, PH) had a similar appearance and biological properties to those of the original platelets. In addition, the PH with PLGA-NS specifically adhered onto the substrate pre-coated with fibrin to a significantly great extent compared with PLGA-NS alone. When applied in an in vitro model of tumor tissue which was composed of an upper chamber pre-coated with fibrin and a lower chamber culturing tumor cells, the PH with PLGA-NS incorporating an anti-tumor drug were delivered to the tumor cells through the specific adhesion onto the upper chamber and, consequently, drug release from the upper chamber took place, resulting in the growth suppression of tumor cells. It is concluded that the drug delivery system based on PH is promising for tumor treatment.
