Hyperbranched poly(diethynylbenzene-silane) (hb-PDEBS) was synthesized through polycondensation reaction of diethynylbenzene Grignard reagent (A2) and trichlorosilane (B3), and its structure was characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, GPC and Elemental Analysis. The degree of branching of hb-PDEBS was defined by 29Si-NMR and calculated to be about 0.68. The curing behavior of hb-PDEBS was investigated by DSC. Thermal stability of cured hb-PDEBS was examined by TGA, and its residue at 1000°C under nitrogen was 80.6%. Hb-PDEBS displayed a strong absorption due to π-π* transition and exhibited the most intensity structured emission with a maximum around 500 nm.

Abstract. Polyaniline (PANI) and p-phenylenediamine (p-PDA)-aniline copolymer were prepared via a same microemulsion method. The structures of the PANI and p-PDA-aniline copolymer were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). The results revealed the difference of synthesis and characterization between PANI and p-PDA-aniline copolymer. It was shown that structure of the copolymer is almost similar to that of PANI, but the p-PDA-aniline copolymer has a better crystallization than PANI, and the thermal stability of the copolymer is higher than that of pure PANI.

A novel chiral poly(amide imide) containing L-alanine was synthesized by direct polycondensation reaction of newly synthesized N,N’-(4,4’-diphthaloyl)-bis-L-alanine diacid with 4,4’-diaminodiphenyl ether in a medium consisting of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), triphenylphosphite (TPP), calcium chloride (CaCl2), and pyridine. The new chiral diimide-diacid monomer was synthesized by direct reaction of 3,3’-4,4’-Biphenyl tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride with L-alanine in acetic acid under refluxing conditions. The resulting compounds were obtained in quantitative yields and high purity. The synthetic diacid monomer was characterized by elemental analysis,1H-NMR spectroscopy, FT-IR techniques and specific rotation, the obtained polymer was characterized by FTIR techniques, specific rotation and solubility testing.

Novel benzoxazine monomers, acrylamide based benzoxazine, have been prepared from direct condensation of phenols with acrylamide and formaldehyde. 1H NMR and FT-IR, DSC and TGA were used to analysis the structure, compositions and investigate the curing behaviour and thermal stability, respectively. Solvent effects were studied. Solventless method is good for higher formation ratio of benzoxazine to the corresponding phenolic resin. The ratio for P-AA is 36.4% by solventless method, while it’s about 26% by toluene solvent; and 44% and 20% for B-AA, respectively. The monomers mixtures exhibit curing temperature (ca.187oC) without catalysts lower than their related allyl-benzoxazine. The FT-IR of different curing temperature shows the disappearance of double bond absorption at 1668 cm-1 and oxazine ring at 1232 cm-1 and appearance of hydroxyl group at 3446 cm-1. Thermal stability of cured benzoxazine show good char residues compared with traditional benzoxazine of aniline.

Abstract In this paper, we synthesized a kind of bio-based plasticizer epoxidized linoleic acid cardanol ester(ELCE) from cardanol and linoleic acid. Its chemical structure was characterized with FT-IR and 1H NMR. Polyvinyl chloride(PVC) blends plasticized with ELCE were prepared via thermoplastic blending with torque rheometer. The performance including torque, mechanical property, thermal stability, plasticizing property and migration resistance of plasticized PVC blends were investigated and compared with plasticized PVC blends with commercial plasticizer dioctyl phthalate(DOP). The results showed that ELCE improved thermal stability of PVC blends. ELCE played more excellent plasticizing effect on PVC blends than DOP. The better solvent extraction resistance and volatile resistance of ELCE make it impossible to completely replace DOP in PVC products.

In this study, soda alkali lignin from oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB-AL) and kenaf core (KC-AL) are esterified with maleic anhydride under two different conditions, namely i) pyridine at temperature of 120°C for 3h and ii) aqueous alkaline solution at room temperature for 4h. As a result, the weight percentage gain (WPG) of the esterified EFB-AL (EFB-EL) and esterified KC-AL (KC-EL) in pyridine demonstrated a higher compared to aqueous alkaline solution. The FT-IR results of EFB-EL and KC-EL in both solvents exhibited some changes at the carbonyl and hydroxyl groups. Furthermore, the esterification process induced the carboxylic peak to appear in both alkali lignin samples. The outcome is confirmed by conducting H-NMR analysis, which demonstrated ester and carboxylic acid peaks within the spectral analysis. Finally, the TGA results showed both EFB-EL and KC-EL that are exposed to aqueous alkaline actually possessed better thermal stability and higher activation energy (Ea) compared to the esterified samples in pyridine.

Copolymers based on 1, 4-diethoxybenzene (DEB) and 3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) were electrochemically synthesized and characterized. The structures of the copolymers were established by 1H NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. The results indicated the final product was a copolymer instead of a blend or a composite. The physical properties were systematically investigated by cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis absorption and fluorescence. The PL maximum of copolymers presented obviously red-shift to long wavelength as the feed ratio of EDOT in monomer mixture increased.

In this paper, some chalcone derivatives (C1, C2) were synthesized based on the reaction of equal amount of substituted acetophenone and substituted banzaldehyde in basic medium. Oxazine and thiazine derivatives were prepared from the reaction of chalcones (C1-C2) with urea and thiourea respectively in a basic medium. Pyrazole derivatives were prepared based on the reaction of chalcones with hydrazine mono hydrate or phenyl hydrazine in the presence of glacial acetic acid as a catalyst. The new synthesized compounds were identified using various physical techniques like1 H-NMR and FT-IR spectra.

The biomineral-binding alendronate-chitosan conjugate (Scheme 1) was developed as a novel drug delivery system. Alendronate was conjugated to the hydroxyl groups of chitosan, thereby maintaining the amino groups of chitosan intact. By means of FT-IR and 1H NMR, the characterization was conducted to confirm the successful synthesis of alendronate-chitosan conjugate.

Some functional luminol derivatives with aromatic substituted groups have been designed and synthesized from the reaction of the corresponding aromatic acyl chloride precursors with luminol. It has been found that depending on the size of aromatic groups, the formed luminol derivatives showed different properties, indicating distinct regulation of molecular skeletons. UV and IR data confirmed commonly the formation of imide group as well as aromatic segment in molecular structures. Thermal analysis showed that the thermal stability of luminol derivatives with p-phthaloyl segment was the highest in those derivatives. The difference of thermal stability is mainly attributed to the formation of imide group and aromatic substituent groups in molecular structure. The present results have demonstrated that the special properties of luminol derivatives can be turned by modifying molecular structures of objective compounds with proper substituted groups, which show potential application in functional material field and ECL sensor.

ABSTRACTWe report the synthesis and characterization of a novel series of aryl-substituted PPVs, which have shown excellent processability, good thermal stability, high photoluminescence quantum efficiency and low content of structural defects. The substituents of the polymers were designed with different degree of hindrance effect on the main chain. 1H NMR measurement indicates that the defect structure in the polymer main chain can be effectively depressed by introducing bulk and hindrance substituents.
