In the paper, N,N′-bis(4-hydroxybenzyidene)azine (BHBYA) has been synthesized by p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and hydrazine as raw materials. The structure was determined by X-ray diffraction. The Schiff base crystallizes is in the monoclinic P21/c space group. The results of antimicrobial activity showed that it has a good inhibition on Cucumber Damping-Off and Rice Blast. The findings of oxidation resistance experiment indicated that it has an excellent inhibitory effect on peroxidation of olein.

Two new isodaucane-type sesquiterpenoids, namely (1R,4S,5S,6R,7S,10R)-isodauc-6,7,10-triol, C15H28O3, (1), and (1R,4S,5S,6S,7S,10R)-isodauc-6,7,10-triol, (2), and a new eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoid, 1β,4β,5α-trihydroxyeudesmane, (3), were obtained from the rhizomes of homalomena occulta with the aid of column chromatography. Their structures were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic analyses, including 1D NMR, 2D NMR and HRESIMS. The structure of (1) was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and the absolute configuration was assigned with respect to that of the precursor. The single-crystal structure reveals that adjacent molecules of (1) embrace through two groups of intermolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds to generate a two-dimensional sheet with a 63-net topology. The three compounds were evaluated for their activity against lipopolysaccharide-induced production of nitrogen oxide (NO) in RAW 264.7 cells, and (1) showed an inhibitory effect on NO production, with IC50 values of 5.7±0.22 µM.

The antimony(III) complex [Sb(Hedta)]·2H2O was synthesized with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (H4edta) and antimonous oxide as main raw materials in aqueous solution. The composition and structure of the complex were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra, single crystal X-ray diffraction, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The crystal structure of the antimony(III) complex belongs to orthorhombic system, space group Pna2(1), with cell parameters ofa=18.4823(18) Å,b=10.9408(12) Å,c=7.3671(5) Å,V=1489.7(2) Å3,Z=4, andDc=1.993 g cm−3. The Sb(III) ion is five-coordinated by two amido N atoms and three carboxyl O atoms from a single Hedta3−ligand, forming a distorted trigonal bipyramid geometry. The thermal decomposition processes of the complex include dehydration, oxidation, and pyrolysis of the ligand, and the last residue is Sb2O3at the temperature of 570°C.

A novel complex has been prepared using the (E)-4-nitro-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)aniline bidentate Schiff base ligand and PtCl2, namely, dichlorido[(E)-4-nitro-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)aniline-κ2 N,N′]platinum(II) acetonitrile hemisolvate, [PtCl2(C12H9N3O2)]·0.5CH3CN, 1. According to the X-ray measurements of the crystal structure, the PtII ion adopts a PtCl2N2 square-planar coordination. The coordination of the Schiff base ligand to the PtII ion occurs in a cyclic bidentate fashion, as a result of which a five-membered metallacycle is formed. Furthermore, in the structure of 1, the neutral molecules form a one-dimensional chain structure through C—H...Cl and C—H...O hydrogen bonds. The characterization of the complex was performed via single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis, and the antioxidant activity of the complex was evaluated using spectrophotometry by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method.

The diimine-dioxime ligand, 4,9-diaza-3,10-diethyl-3,9-dodecadiene-2,11-dione bisoxime (LH2), containing a N4 donor set was prepared by Schiff base condensation of 2-hydroxyimino-3-pentanone and 1,4-diaminobutane in two ways: in protic and in aprotic solvent. Higher yield of (LH2) imine was obtained when the synthesis was carried out using protic solvent (C2H5OH) instead of aprotic benzene (78% and 30%, respectively). Cu(II) metal complex of diimine-dioxime was synthesized in CH3OH from metal salt and LH2 in mole ratio 1:1. The isolated complex was characterized by the elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The structure of [Cu2(LH)2]?(ClO4)2 was determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Comparison with the structurally related diimine-dioxime Cu(II) complexes revealed the influence of the weak Cu???O(perchlorate) interaction on the geometry of the metallocycle.

The crystal structure of the binuclear copper(II) complex. [Cu2(L)(2-pyridonato)] was determined by X-ray diffraction, where H3(L) represents the Schiff base ligand derived from 1,3-diaminopropane-2-ol and acetylacetone. Two copper(II) ions are bridged by alkoxide and 2-pyridonate groups with a Cu-Cu separation of 3.249(2) Å . Ferromagnetic interaction is found to be operating in this complex, which is attributed to the small dihedral angle (121°) between the two planes containing the copper(II) ion.

A series of thirteen xanthones 3–15 was prepared based on substitutional (appendage) diversity reactions. The series was structurally characterized based on their spectral data and HRMS, and the structures of xanthone derivatives 1, 7, and 8 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This series, along with an in-house series of aminated xanthones 16–33, was tested for in-vitro antimicrobial activity against seven bacterial (including two multidrug-resistant) strains and five fungal strains. 1-(Dibromomethyl)-3,4-dimethoxy-9H-xanthen-9-one (7) and 1-(dibromomethyl)-3,4,6-trimethoxy-9H-xanthen-9-one (8) exhibited antibacterial activity against all tested strains. In addition, 3,4-dihydroxy-1-methyl-9H-xanthen-9-one (3) revealed a potent inhibitory effect on the growth of dermatophyte clinical strains (T. rubrum FF5, M. canis FF1 and E. floccosum FF9), with a MIC of 16 µg/mL for all the tested strains. Compounds 3 and 26 showed a potent inhibitory effect on two C. albicans virulence factors: germ tube and biofilm formation.
