Our research team developed a brace type and an angle brace type of the visco-elastic damper on seismic-response controlled structure for timber structure. We performed various dependence evaluations by the materials examination of the styrene olefin-based visco-elastic body which we developed newly. We made a structural model using the performance that loading tests in timber frame. We inspected the validity of the structural model. In addition, we built a technical support system for damper setting by the time history response analysis so that a general design architect was easy to use the damper. We could express dynamics properties of visco-elastic body properties by Voigt model, and the structural model almost accorded with an examination property value. We made a structural model of the whole frame system by Kb of installation rigidity obtained from loading tests in timber frame. Because a design level almost accorded with experimental value, the validity of the frame design on seismic-response controlled structure in consideration of the dependence (distortion, frequency, temperature) of the visco-elastic body was confirmed. This visco-elastic damper on seismic-response controlled structure acquired minister authorization of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In addition, this damper acquired the certification of the Japan Building Disaster Prevention Association.

This paper establishes three models using ANSYS, which were timber structure of Guangyue Tower, timber structure-tower base and timber structure-tower base-foundation. The first 3 natural frequencies of timber structure respectively were 0.8524Hz、1.1273 Hz and 1.7426 Hz through modal analysis, which were compared with calculations from code. Lanzhou Wave was chosen to analyze the seismic response of Guangyue Tower, and the amplitudes were adjusted to 55gal and 310gal respectively according to the frequent earthquake and rare earthquake, which were inputted to the above models. As can be seen from the calculations, the maximum displacements of the three models were in the top nodes, and tower base had a greater impact on vibration of timber structure, which could not be ignored in seismic response analysis; considering soil-structure interaction in seismic response analysis could better reflect the actual situation of Guangyue Tower.

Although the seismic response analysis under the multi-excitation was widely focused on the long-span flexible bridges, it is still necessary to pay more attention to this point of continuous girder bridges since the dynamic behavior of this type of bridges are different with either long-span bridges or simple support bridges. Based on the nonlinear dynamic time history analysis, a four-span continuous beam FEM was built, and the effect of excitation types and structure size on seismic response was studied. And results indicate that the structural performance of continuous girder bridges is sensitive with the space correlation of different location of seismic excitation. So its necessary to consider the space effect of excitation while carrying out a seismic design of continuous beam.

This paper, which is part of the series entitled “Development of an Evaluation Method for Seismic Isolation Systems of Nuclear Power Facilities”, shows the linear seismic response of crossover piping installed in a seismically isolated plant. The crossover piping, supported by both isolated and non-isolated buildings, deforms with large relative displacement between the two buildings and the seismic response of the crossover piping is caused by two different seismic excitations from the buildings. A flexible and robust structure is needed for the high-pressure crossover piping. In this study, shaking tests on a 1/10 scale piping model and FEM analyses were performed to investigate the seismic response of the crossover piping which was excited and deformed by two different seismic motions under isolated and non-isolated conditions. Specifically, as linear response analysis of the crossover piping, modal time-history analysis and response spectrum analysis with multiple excitations were carried out and the applicability of the analyses was confirmed. Moreover, the seismic response of actual crossover piping was estimated and the feasibility was evaluated.

This paper adopts large finite element software ANSYS to establish finite element model of twin-tower building with enlarged base, uses dynamic time history analysis method for seismic response calculation, compare and analyze the calculation results of twin-tower building with enlarged base under elastic boundary conditions and rigid boundary conditions. The results showe that dynamic response for model under elastic boundary conditions is larger than dynamic response for model under rigid boundary conditions, and elastic boundary conditions is more close to the actual situation.

The piping in a nuclear power plant is laid across multiple floors of a single building or two buildings, which are supported at many points. As the piping is excited by multiple-inputs from the supporting points during an earthquake, seismic response analysis by multiple excitations is needed to obtain the exact seismic response of the piping. However, few experiments involving such multiple excitation have been performed to verify the validity of multiple excitation analysis. Therefore, analysis of the seismic design of piping in Japan is performed by the enveloped Floor Response Spectrum (FRS), which covers all floor response spectra at all supporting points. The piping response estimated by enveloped FRS is conservative in most cases compared with the actual seismic response by multiple excitations. To perform rational seismic design and evaluation, it is important to investigate the seismic response by multiple excitations and to verify the validity of the analytical method by multiple excitation test. This paper reports the validation results of the multiple-excitation analysis of piping compared with the results of the multiple excitations shaking test using triple uni-axial shaking table and a 3-dimensional piping model (89.1mm diameter and 5.5mm thickness). Three directional moments from the analysis and the shaking test were compared on the validation. As the result, it is confirmed that the analysis by multiple time history excitation corresponds with the test result.

Self-anchored suspension bridge is widely used in Chinese City bridge engineering for the past few years. Because the anchorage system of main cable has been changed from anchorage blocks to the ends of the girder, its’ dynamic mechanics behavior is greatly distinguished with the traditional earth anchored suspension bridge. This paper studies the dynamic characteristics and seismic response of one large-span self-anchored suspension bridge which is located in China/Shenyang city. Using a spatial dynamic analysis finite element mode, the dynamic characteristics are calculated out. An artificial seismic wave is adopted as the ground motion input which is fitted with acceleration response spectrum according to the Chinese bridge anti-seismic design code. Time-integration method is used to get the seismic time-history response. Geometry nonlinear effect is considered during the time-history analysis. At last, the dynamic characteristics and the behavior of earthquake response of this type bridge structure are discussed clearly. The research results can be used as the reference of seismic response analysis and anti-seismic design for the same type of bridge.

To study the effects of seismic waves directions on bridges, the time history analytic method was used. Two bridge types, the railway continuous curved rigid frame bridge and the railway continuous straight rigid frame bridge, have been taken into account. Both the two same span bridges were used for comparative analysis about free vibration and seismic response feature, then some practical application conclusions were obtained. The longitudinal and transversal seismic waves produce the maximum reaction values. Besides, the pier bottom sections and the beam sections at the piers top are the critical sections in the bridges. In addition, this small radius curved bridge can be designed as the straight bridge in seismic design.

This paper describes that the analytical model for the three-dimensional isolation system [1], which consists of thick rubber bearings, disc springs and oil dampers, is created through loading tests. The new-type analytical models of each element are proposed to improve the prediction accuracy of the seismic response analysis. The concept of the three-dimensional isolation system has been proposed to ensure the structural integrity for large reactor vessels. The primary specifications of the three-dimensional isolation system are a horizontal natural period of 3.4 s and a vertical natural period of 0.33 s. The investigations of horizontal isolation performances have been conducted for the various types of isolation devices, beginning with rubber bearings, whereas the previous studies focused on the vertical isolation performances are only a few. Hence, isolation characteristics, such as restoring force and damping force, should be clarified by loading tests using vertical seismic isolation elements, and analytical model to assess the seismic response should be identified on the basis of the loading test results. This paper presents a new analytical model with providing of the differential equations to improve the prediction accuracy and demonstrates the seismic performance, including beyond-design-basis ground motion, for the three-dimensional isolation system by the seismic response analysis.
