Along with our country economy fast development, the building and renovation is becoming more and more widely, layer for steel structure system, relying on its obvious advantages, has gradually become one of hot topics in the study of engineering. Combining with engineering example, through the integrity research, bearing capacity calculation, field exploration, the analysis of the concrete strength testing, etc., has carried on the appraisal on the safety of building structure, and analyses the feasibility of after add layer. In layer for steel structure design, at the same time puts forward the design and construction of some key points, provide a reference for similar projects.

Current steel structure design software cannot calculate sectional properties of user-defined section of cold-formed thin-wall steel accurately. Since the sectional properties data given by design code has been implanted into corresponding modules of these software and the software disregard the radian of corner of steel, erroneous results will be generated if the user-defined sectional size doesn't match the sectional size of the data file implanted. According to Green's theorem, the author derived precise formulas for sectional properties of arbitrary section and developed software for calculation based on Visual C++ platform. The software which can calculate exact solution of sectional properties of arbitrary section has been verified by comparing results from various methods. This software can be used independently as a calculating tool and the calculation module can be implanted into other steel structure design software to make calculation for sectional properties of arbitrary section possible.

Accidents of the cement manufacturers’ reinforced concrete silo structures frequently occurred currently in China, because of quality problems, causing enormous losses. The collapse status of a cement raw meal silo is investigated. Combined with the test results of the location and spacing of silo wall’s reinforcing bars, concrete strength, cracks and defects, the reasons for collapse of silo wall are analyzed and design recommendations for concrete silo structures are made. This can give reference to reinforced concrete silo structure design and construction in the future.
