Daur is the typical northern minority in China; its male traditional costume has a generous appearance and clear line, which reflects a heroic and simple characteristic. There are many factors that influence formation of Daur male traditional costume culture: natural and geographical environment, social and economic conditions, production method and life style, religious belief, cultural exchange, etc. These factors are reflected in costume directly or indirectly to form the unique style of Daur male costume. These characteristics should be inherited and innovated, and become the ethnic symbol of modern Daur male costume.

In recent years, the Palestinian city of Nablus has experienced great suffering due to attacks by the Israeli forces. Strict curfews imposed on the city did not only affect daily life and lead to deteriorating economic conditions, but also had an impact on the psychological well-being of the inhabitants. The peak of the violence was in 2002 when Israeli forces occupied Nablus city and ordered a curfew for three months. The suffering that people faced during this period took on different dimensions - most notably immobility - as a result of the continuous siege and the constant threat of being shot at when breaking the curfew. This article will be examining the ways in which religious belief contributed to creating resilience which had a major influence on the inhabitants’ steadfastness (ṡumud) during the siege and its aftermath.

The author firstly introduced the characteristics of hard news form the perspectives of the structure, linguistic features and language style. Secondly, numerous cultural background factors are classified into six types including geographical environment, life style, traditional customs, religious beliefs, historical allusion and literature connotations which are the underlying causes of cultural barriers occurred in the hard news translation. To remove the cultural barriers, based on the Lawrence Venuti’s (1995) foreignization and domesticaiton translation theory, the paper presents principles for hard news translation. By giving a large number of instances of hard news translations, this paper mainly focuses on such issues as the characteristics of hard news, the influence of the inter-culture on the hard news translation, and relevant translation strategies, and last but not least, attaches significance to the inter-culture awareness of the translator during the process of hard news translation.

Abstract This article shows empirical and conceptual possibilities of exploring the transcultural roles and economic situations of French migrant women who served as governesses in the noble circles of the Habsburg monarchy. It combines various research methods, employing narrative textual analysis, socioeconomic and material culture approaches, and cultural exchange perspectives. The author uses printed librettos and comparative insights to reveal broader social anxieties connected with governesses who crossed multiple borders in terms of geography, culture, language, class, and the gender order. She also draws attention to inheritance tax–related sources as evidence of these women's economic conditions. Finally, the author outlines the major shifts in attitudes toward the French language and French immigrants and shows how these affected the governesses’ labor market.

This research takes the land subsidence in Xixi-Chengnan area, Jiangsu province as a case study, quantifies the relative land subsidence vulnerability in terms of vulnerability degree and determines the numerical classification of vulnerability level at the township scale based on the constructed subsidence vulnerability assessment framework, and the detail analysis of natural geographical environment and regional socio-economic conditions in the study area. The vulnerability assessment process is quantitative, objective and comprehensive, provides effective information for the systematic study of land subsidence in Xixi-Chengnan area, lays the foundation for planning of regional land subsidence disaster prevention and reduction, and is worthy of learning for the whole Su-Xi-Chang area and even other subsidence areas.

The direct evaporation of metallic oxides or sulfides does not always given the same compounds with starting material, i.e. decomposition took place. Since the controll of the sulfur or selenium vapors was difficult, a similar production method for oxide particles could not be used for preparation of such compounds in spite of increasing interest in the fields of material science, astrophysics and mineralogy. In the present paper, copper metal was evaporated from a molybdenum silicide heater which was proposed by us to produce the ultra-fine particles in reactive gas as shown schematically in Figure 1. Typical smoke by this method in Ar gas at a pressure of 13 kPa is shown in Figure 2. Since the temperature at a location of a few mm below the heater, maintained at 1400° C , were a few hundred degrees centigrade, the selenium powder in a quartz boat was evaporated at atmospheric temperature just below the heater. The copper vapor that evaporated from the heater was mixed with the stream of selenium vapor, and selenide was formed near the boat. If then condensed by rapid cooling due to the collision with inert gas, thus forming smoke similar to that from the metallic sulfide formation. Particles were collected and studied by a Hitachi H-800 electron microscope.Figure 3 shows typical EM images of the produced copper selenide particles. The morphology was different by the crystal structure, i.e. round shaped plate (CuSe;hexagona1 a=0.39,C=l.723 nm) ,definite shaped p1 ate(Cu5Se4;Orthorhombic;a=0.8227 , b=1.1982 , c=0.641 nm) and a tetrahedron(Cu1.8Se; cubic a=0.5739 nm). In the case of compound ultrafine particles there have been no observation for the particles of the tetrahedron shape. Since the crystal structure of Cu1.8Se is the anti-f1uorite structure, there has no polarity.
