Resistance to wind erosion enhancement of existing concrete is a new technology to reinforced concrete surface wind erosion, different from the previous wear-resistant research ideas adjustment made of concrete mix, and thick surface wear additional layers, aims to enhance the resistance of concrete surface wind erosion capacity. With fuzzy clustering analysis method, the author analyzes four different types of existing concrete interface reinforcement materials and Come to different effect. Cluster analysis showed that the composite emulsion concrete surface treatment materials can penetrate through the surface penetration means and react with concrete to form a dense network structure, can achieve the purpose of anti-erosion, the best overall performance.

Economic indicators in economic policies have an important place in determining the levels of development. Determining and classifying the existing social and economic structures of countries is very important for examining the development states and possible development tendencies of countries and forming regional development policies in line with these. The aim in cluster analysis, is to classify datas in to similarity and perform useful knowledge for the researcher. Cluster analysis, which became more popular among the subjects of statistical classification in recent years, can give more reliable results when there is apriori knowledge about number of clusters. Fuzzy models interested in fuzzy model structures and try to estimate system behaviours that has no knowledge about their structure. Fuzzy Cluster Analysis is try to decompose the groups which membership degrees cannot be determined. When the number of datas and variables increased or cluster structures came to closer for all, Cluster analysis has given more successful results then the other cluster analysis methods. In this study, Turkish Republics were classified in terms of the indicators determined by using Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) and Gath Geva methods which are frequently used in fuzzy clustering analysis. The objective was to find out the common class structures of Turkish Republics which came out with the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991 and which experienced economic similar problems and thus to help countries in the same clusters in similar economic planning. Results are also compared between fuzzy and crisp clustering analysis methods.

Prior studies revealed that low levels of youth political activity are not necessarily indicative of complete disengagement from societal affairs but could be accompanied by interest and latent involvement stemming from a standby or monitorial attitude. However, no prior study has investigated patterns of citizenship orientations including both manifest and latent engagement defined by one’s position towards institutional politics, according to different forms of participation. A questionnaire was filled out by 1,732 late adolescents and young adults in Italy (15–30 years old, M = 19.73, 60.7% female). Cluster analysis identified six profiles of citizenship orientations across different types of participatory activities (political, activist, political online and civic): active trustful, active distrustful, standby trustful, standby distrustful, unengaged trustful and unengaged distrustful. The results showed that each level of engagement—active, standby and unengaged—could be further differentiated between trustful and distrustful based on their attitude towards institutions and the electoral process.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a good candidate for the development of fast and easy-to-use diagnostic tools, possibly used on serum in screening tests. In this study, a potential label-free serum test based on SERS spectroscopy was developed to analyze human serum for the diagnosis of the non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We firstly synthesized novel highly branched gold nanoparticles (HGNPs) at high yield through a one-step reduction of HAuCl4 with dopamine hydrochloride at 60°C. Then, HGNP substrates with good reproducibility, uniformity, and high SERS effect were fabricated by the electrostatically assisted (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane-(APTES-) functionalized silicon wafer surface-sedimentary self-assembly method. Using as-prepared HGNP substrates as a high-performance sensing platform, SERS spectral data of serum obtained from healthy subjects, lung adenocarcinoma patients, lung squamous carcinoma patients, and large cell lung cancer patients were collected. The difference spectra among different types of NSCLC were compared, and analysis result revealed their intrinsic difference in types and contents of nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, amino acids, and lipids. SERS spectra were analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA), which was able to distinguish different types of NSCLC. Considering its time efficiency, being label-free, and sensitivity, SERS based on HGNP substrates is very promising for mass screening NSCLC and plays an important role in the detection and prevention of other diseases.

High performance heat exchangers represent nowadays the key of success to go on with the trend of miniaturizing electronic components as requested by the industry. This numerical study, based on Bejan’s Constructal theory, analyzes the thermal behavior of heat removing fin modules, comparing their performances when operating with different types of fluids. In particular, the simulations involve air and water (as representative of gases and liquids), to understand the actual benefits of employing a less heat conductive fluid involving smaller pressure losses or vice versa. The analysis parameters typical of a Constructal description (such as conductance or Overall Performance Coefficient) show that significantly improved performances may be achieved when using water, even if an unavoidable increase in pressure losses affects the liquid-refrigerated case. Considering the overall performance: if the parameter called Relevance tends to 0, air prevails; if it tends to 1, water prevails; if its value is about 0.5, water prevails in most of the case studies.

A typology of young news users in the Low Countries A typology of young news users in the Low Countries This article investigates different types of young news users (15-34 years) in the Low Countries. Therefore a survey among 1200 Flemish and Dutch youngsters and adolescents was conducted, analyzing the combined use of media platforms for news consumption and time spent with these news carriers. The cluster analysis identified five types of news users: the sound and vision group, characterized by the use of mainly audiovisual news platforms, combined with online news sites; the e-news users, who give most prominence to online news sites but also rely on traditional news platforms, the all rounders, depending on a range of off- and online news channels; the traditionalists, who spent most time with offline news media; and the dabblers, a group with an overall low level of news consumption. Our results indicate that Flemish and Dutch youngsters combine online and traditional news platforms for their news gathering, giving most prominence to traditional news media, especially television news.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to document similarities and differences between management practices of different types of organizations in India’s IT sector through an empirical survey. The authors expected these differences to be significant enough for us to be able to groupa priorithis set of companies meaningfully through cluster analysis on the basis of the similarity of their management practices alone.Design/methodology/approachUsing a mixed-methods approach, 73 senior-level executives of companies working in India’s IT sector were approached with a pretested questionnaire to find out differences on eighteen management practices in the areas of operations management, monitoring management, targets management and talent management. The different types of organizations surveyed were small and amp; medium global multinationals, large global multinationals, small and medium Indian multinationals, large Indian multinationals and small and medium local Indian companies. The differences and similarities found through statistical testing were further validateda priorithrough cluster analysis and qualitative interviews with senior-level executives.FindingsThe management practices of multinationals in India are moving toward Western management practices, indicating that management practices converge as the organizations grow in size. Though the practices of large Indian multinationals were not significantly different from those of global multinationals, the surprising finding was that large Indian multinationals scored better than global multinationals on a few practices. The practices of small and medium Indian companies differed significantly from those of other types of organizations and hence they formed a cluster.Practical implicationsThe finding that large Indian IT multinationals have an edge over global multinationals in certain people management practices is a confirmation of the role of human resource practices in their current success and their continuing competitive advantage.Originality/valueThis is perhaps the first study of its kind to document state of specific management practices across different types of organizations in India’s IT sector and then use measures on these practices to group a priori these organizations for validation.
