Three kinds of colloidal silica (CS)/silane sol solutions were synthesized in variation with parameters such as different acidity and reaction time. Sol solutions were prepared from HSA CS/ methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS), LS CS/MTMS and LS CS/MTMS/γ -Glycidoxypropyltri methoxysilane (ES) solutions. In order to understand their physical and chemical properties, sol-gel coating films were fabricated on glass. Coating films on glass, obtained from LS/MTMS sol, had high contact angle, also, much enhanced flat surface in the case of LS/MTMS sol was observed in comparison with HSA/ MTMS sol. From all sol-gel solutions, seasoning effect of for enhancing properties of sol-gel coating layer on glass was observed while such sol-gel solutions were left for 7days. In initial stage of sol-gel reaction, all most of sol solutions used in this work seem to be unstable, formation of coating films was a little hazy and rough. However, improved coating films as observed in 4days later. LS/MTMS/ES sol solutions were synthesized with ES, adding to LS/MTMS sol. Contact angle of LS/MTMS/ES sol-gel coating films decreased, since ES played a role in forming hydrophilic hydroxyl sol. The elastic portion of coating films prepared from LS/MTMS/ES sol increased with addition of ES, but thermal stability decreased a little.

Several sol solutions were synthesized by using two kinds of nanosized boehmite and methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) according to the changing amount of MTMS at different reaction time. To understand their physical and chemical properties, sol-gel coating films were fabricated on glass. The sol solutions were prepared from boehmite of spherical shape (boehmite1)/MTMS and mixed boehmites of spherical and fibrous shapes (boehmite2)/MTMS. The soluble stability of boehmite1/MTMS was observed in the sol solution left for 24 h, however, that of boehmite2/MTMS was observed in the sol solution left for 48 h. The contact angle of sol-gel coating films from boehmite/MTMS increased with MTMS contents and reaction time. The films formed a flat surface with the increasing MTMS contents and decreasing reaction time. The electrical resistivity of films increased with MTMS contents. The thermal degradation of films occurred at approximately 400 oC.

Colloidal silica/methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) sol solutions were prepared in variation with the ratio of MTMS to colloidal silica. Sol solutions were prepared by sol-gel reaction. To understand their physical and chemical properties, dip coating of sol solutions was performed on the glass substrates. The state of coating films was investigated in variation with the amount of MTMS and reaction time. The contact angle and thickness of coating films increased with an increasing amount of MTMS. The surface roughness of coating films decreased with an increasing amount of MTMS. Coating films were stable until 550°C. Thermal degradation temperature of coating films decreased with an increasing amount of MTMS.

Colloidal silica/silane sol solutions were prepared in variation with the ratio of silane to colloidal silica. Such sol solutions were synthesized from colloidal silica/tetramethoxysilane (TMOS)/methyltrimethoxysilane(MTMS). Sol solutions were prepared by sol-gel reaction through two step reactions. To understand their physical and chemical properties, dip coating of sol solutions was performed on the glass substrates. Contact angle and thickness of coating films increased with increasing the amount of MTMS. The surface free energy of coating films decreased with increasing amount of MTMS. Coating films were stable until 550°C. Thermal degradation temperature of coating films decreased with increasing amount of MTMS. Plastic hardness decreased with increasing amount of MTMS. Elastic portion increased with increasing amount of MTMS.

ABSTRACTUsing sol-gel technology, thin organic/ceramic (ceramer) coatings have been applied to metal surfaces in order to enhance such surface properties as adhesion promotion and corrosion prevention. Isotropic coatings have been found to be effective in certain applications such as corrosion prevention, but the formation of anisotropic coatings permits greater flexibility over the resulting properties. Isotropic coatings derived from tetraethoxysilane, for example, effectively inhibit corrosion while being only 100 to 1000 Å thick. These coatings do not, however, promote adhesion. Thin coatings made from traditional silane adhesion promoters alone are unable to prevent corrosion of metallic substrates.Using monomers with appropriate reactivities permits the single-step synthesis of anisotropic coatings that can both promote adhesion and prevent corrosion. These types of anisotropic coatings allow the physical and chemical properties of a coating to be varied as a function of distance from the substrate and confer properties to the substrate that would not be possible from a single isotropic coating. The principle behind the construction of these anisotropic coatings is general enough that it can be used in many applications where microengineering of surface structures is important.

The physical and chemical properties changes of broth in the fermentation process of Phellinus and its mutant strain were studied. The results showed that the mycelia yield of the two strains of Phellinus increased rapidly in the first 6 days and increased slowly 6 days later, the soluble protein content of broth took on an increasing trend, up to 0.15 mg/mL and 0.13 mg/mL respectively, the variation tendency of the content of polysaccharide and viscosities of broth were semblable, that was declined in the initial stage of fermentation and change little in later stage. The physical, chemical properties and viscosities show similarity in both two strains’ broth, therefore, the physical and chemical properties of broth in the fermentation process of Phellinus changed regularly.

ABSTRACTInorganic-organic hybrid polymers (ORMOCER®s) have been synthesized by sol-gel processing. The materials can be functionalized such that their physical and chemical properties can be reproducibly tailored towards the desired application, i.e., electronics, optics (passives/actives) or passivation technology. Besides, the materials which show negative resist behavior, can be patterned by UV exposure with good resolution. The materials are well-suited for thin and thick film technology using conventional coating technology, applied in multi-layer technology. We here particularly focus on materials for passivation against environmental influences, which additionally exhibit very good dielectric properties.

Effectiveness of photocatalytic degradation of phenol in aqueous solution using semiconductor oxides (SO) prepared by a sol-gel method was examined. The physical and chemical properties of synthesized catalysts were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), diffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy (DRS), and N2-adsorption measurements. The optimal conditions of the photocatalytic degradation of phenol using prepared titanium dioxide sample were defined.
