Dispersions of cerium oxide nanoparticles in water, ethanol, and water-ethanol solution were synthesized for the first time using laser ablation of metallic target. The fundamental harmonic of nanosecond Nd:YAG laser was used. Nanocrystalline powders of cerium oxide were obtained from the dispersions. The average size of the crystallites was 17-19 nm. Phase composition of nanoparticles was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. It was found that carbon present on the surface of CeO2 particles. The materials obtained may be used as catalyst carriers for CO oxidation, and as active components of sunscreen cosmetic products.

Beginning with 5,10,15-triarylporphyrin-nickel complex, five meso-to-meso directly linked porphyrin-diazaporphyrin triads were successfully prepared for the first time through a series of reactions including formylation via Vilsmeier–Haack reaction, condensation with pyrrole, bromination with [Formula: see text]-Bromosuccinimide (NBS), oxidation with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ), metal-templated cyclization of dibromodipyrrin-metal complexes with NaN[Formula: see text] and demetalization. All these triads were comprehensively characterized by [Formula: see text]H NMR, high-resolution mass spectrometry and UV-vis absorption. In addition, the structure of compound 6Ni was unambiguously determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, which showed that the two dihedral angles are both 86.65 (4)[Formula: see text] between each mean plane of porphyrin and that of central diazaporphyrin The UV-vis absorption spectra disclosed that the longest wavelengths of Soret bands and Q bands for these triads were observed at 429 and 642 nm, respectively. In contrast to diazaporphyrin-porphyrin dyads, diazaporphyrin dimers and diazaporphyrin monomers reported previously the molar extinction coefficients, particularly for triad 8Ni are much higher.

To the best of our knowledge, this report presents, for the first time, the schematic of the possible chemical reaction for a one-pot synthesis of Zn0.5Cd0.5Se alloy quantum dots (QDs) in the presence of low/high oleylamine (OLA) contents. For high OLA contents, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) results showed that the average size of Zn0.5Cd0.5Se increases significantly from 4 to 9 nm with an increasing OLA content from 4 to 10 mL. First, [Zn(OAc)2]–OLA complex can be formed by a reaction between Zn(OAc)2 and OLA. Then, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) data confirmed that ZnO is formed by thermal decomposition of the [Zn(OAc)2]–OLA complex. The results indicated that ZnO grew on the Zn0.5Cd0.5Se surface, thus increasing the particle size. For low OLA contents, HRTEM images were used to estimate the average sizes of the Zn0.5Cd0.5Se alloy QDs, which were approximately 8, 6, and 4 nm with OLA loadings of 0, 2, and 4 mL, respectively. We found that Zn(OAc)2 and OLA could form a [Zn(OAc)2]–OLA complex, which inhibited the growth of the Zn0.5Cd0.5Se alloy QDs, due to the decreasing reaction between Zn(oleic acid)2 and Se2−, which led to a decrease in particle size.

Cu2FeSnS4semiconductor nanocrystals with zincblende structure have been successfully synthesized by a hot-injection approach. Cu+, Fe2+, and Sn4+cations have a random distribution in the zincblende unit cell, and the occupancy possibilities are 1/2, 1/4 and 1/4, respectively. Those nanocrystals were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and UV-Vis-NIR absorption spectroscopy. The Cu2FeSnS4 nanocrystals have an average size of 7.5 nm and a band gap of 0.92 eV.

The superparamagnetic NiFe2O4 nanoparticles were synthesized using a hydrothermal technology through P123 sphere micelles as ‘nanoreactor’ in this work. Their morphologies, structures, surface properties and magnetism were characterized by FE-SEM, XRD, FTIR, and VSM, respectively. The nickel ferrite samples are nearly spherical and homogeneous nanoparticles with average size range of about 50-120 nm. They possess superparamagnetism at room temperature and higher saturation magnetization. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern confirms that the samples belong to the cubic crystal system with an inverse-spinel structure. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) absorption spectrum indicates that the NiFe2O4 nanoparticles are stabilized by the P123 adsorbed on the surface of nanoparticles.

Cerium Oxide (CeO2) nanocubes are synthesized by using hydrothermal treatment method in the presence of four different types of ionic liquid such as acetate anion, phosphate anion, and dicyanamide anion. Ceria nanocubes has been consisted with average size of 16 to 31 nm in diameter and characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and surface analyzer and porosimetry analysis (ASAP). Ceria nanocubes have higher photocatalytical ability in the degradation of methylene blue as compared to commercial ceria nanoparticles which are confirmed through ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV/Vis).

Waterlogged wooden artifacts represent an important historical legacy of our past. They are very fragile, especially due to the severe phenomenon of acidification that may occur in the presence of acid precursors. To date, a satisfactory solution for the deacidification of ancient wood on a large scale has still not been found. In this paper, we propose, for the first time, eco-friendly curative and preventive treatments using nanoparticles (NPs) of earth alkaline hydroxides dispersed in water and produced on a large scale. We present the characterization of the NPs (by X-ray diffraction, atomic-force and electron microscopy, and small-angle neutron scattering), together with the study of the deacidification efficiency of our treatments. We demonstrate that all our treatments are very effective for both curative and preventive aims, able to assure an almost neutral or slightly alkaline pH of the treated woods. Furthermore, the use of water as a solvent paves the way for large-scale and eco-friendly applications which avoid substances that are harmful for the environment and for human health.

The γ-alumina powder is a potential material for washcoat application. This paper shows the preparation of γ-alumina using ultrasonic technique in order to obtain nanocrystalline of γ-alumina powder. The 50 gr of the γ-alumina powders was treated in the 250 gr ethanol solution using ultrasonic technique within 10, 20, 30, and 60 minutes, respectively. The process of sonication was set at the fixed frequency (18.520 kHz) and current of 2 A. Crystallite size was evaluated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) data based with Scherrer analysis and Williamson-Hall method. The microstructural characterization of the γ-alumina powders was observed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. The result shows that the optimum of nanocrystalline size of γ-alumina at ultrasonic process for 30 minutes are approximately 4.80 nm and 29.50 nm with Scherrer and Williamson-Hall calculation, respectively.

We synthesized the magnetic CoFe2O4nanoparticles using a solution method in the presence of hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) at 85 °C for 6 h. Their morphologies, structures, surface properties and magnetism were characterized by Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) images, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and Vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), respectively. FE-SEM results show that the synthesized samples are irregular nanoparticles with average size range of about 40-120 nm. XRD confirms that the samples belong to the rhombohedral crystal system. The magnetic CoFe2O4nanoparticles have the potential application in magnetic resonance imaging, high-density information storage and drug delivery.
