Electroluminescence of Naturally Oxidized Polypyrrole

Soluble polypyrrole was obtained by naturally oxidizing pyrrole in air at room temperature for one to four years. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy were employed to characterize the chemical structures of the naturally oxidized polypyrrole. The electroluminescence from the naturally oxidized polypyrrole was recorded. The electroluminescence of the naturally oxidized polypyrrole was broad with its peak located at about 480 nm. Prototyped thin-film display panels were developed using the naturally oxidized polypyrrole as active medium.

AbstractThree homopolymers containing hydantoin substituents were obtained by chemical modification of reactive p-chloromethylated polystyrene. The prepared polymers were chlorinated to yield N-halamine materials with biocidal properties. The chemical structure of polymers was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. All of the hydantoin polymers are insoluble in water and common organic solvents. Microbiological investigations prove the high biocidal activity of the obtained chlorinated polystyrene derivatives containing spirohydantoin moieties. The obtained polymers will be useful in designing and constructing medical and pharmaceutical equipment. The ability to crosslink allows to expect easy grafting of these biocidal macrochains, for example, on textiles.

In this investigation, Schiff bases aluminum complex was synthesized and used as the initiator in the polymerization of D,L-lactide. The aluminum complex was characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR), and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The influences of different factors, including reaction time, reaction temperature, and the ratio of D, L-lactide/Al3+ on the synthesis of polylactide were described. The results showed that Schiff bases aluminum complex could be successfully applied in the ring opening polymerization. The optimum condition of the ring opening polymerization of D,L-lactide, which included D,L-lactide/Al3+ (mol/mol) ratio of 250, reaction temperature of 120 °C, and reaction time of 16 hours.

Abstract Carbon-13 proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of poly(butadiene) s consisting of various ratios of cis-1,4-, trans-1,4- and 1,2-structures were measured by the pulsed Fourier transform NMR method. The spectra of poly(butadiene)s with two or three kinds of butadiene configurations show several new signals which were not observed for homopolymers comprising merely one kind of butadiene configuration. All of these peaks are ascribed to the carbons linked by different kinds of configurations. From these results, the configurational sequence structure of butadiene units in polymer chains has been revealed.
