In the course of a routine screening program for indigent school-age children carried out in an ambulatory hospital clinic, 40% of the mothers spontaneously recorded a concern about a child's health. Physicians were much more likely to record their awareness of the complaint if it related to a body system or function, as compared with complaints made about behavior and mental problems.

Introduction. The current achievements of modern science are the use of specialized automated systems and applications in various fields of medicine. In the current context of health care reform, the burden on health workers who provide medical care to school-age children is growing. The purpose of the work. With the declining level of children’s health, the system of optimizing the monitoring of children’s health and their physical development is becoming an urgent issue. Results. The proposed program is based on MS Access, VBA programming language. Designed for a comprehensive automatic assessment of physical development of students on the basis of anthropometric and physiometric indicators, functional capabilities of the body and the data of medical examination. The program provides the possibility of longitudinal observation (accumulation of data) on the health and physical development of students of an educational institution or classroom during the entire period of study of students. The result of the program is the formation of reports that describe the results of medical examinations to determine the proportion of students, physical or sexual development, visual or hearing acuity which meets or does not meet the normative age. Also, students who need further counseling from specialists in various fields are identified. Conclusions. The use of the proposed software will help to improve the organization of medical care by increasing the effectiveness of health monitoring and optimizing the work of health care workers or educational institutions. Characteristics of early childhood education and care (ECEC) centers might be relevant for children’s health. This scoping review aims to provide an overview of the association between meso-level characteristics (MLCs) of ECEC centers with children’s health, health behavior, and wellbeing. Five databases were searched for quantitative and qualitative research articles published in English or German since 1 January 2000 on health, health behavior, and wellbeing of children aged 0 to 6 years considering MLCs of ECEC centers. Two authors screened 10,396 potentially eligible manuscripts and identified 117 papers, including 3077 examinations of the association between MLCs and children’s health indicators (Kappas > 0.91). Five categories of MLCs were identified: (1) structural characteristics, (2) equipment/furnishings, (3) location, (4) facilities/environment, (5) culture/activities/policies/practices, and 6) staff. Only very few studies found an association of MLCs with body weight/obesity, and general health and wellbeing. Especially physical activity and mental health were related to MLCs. In general, the location (rural vs. urban, neighborhood status) seemed to be a relevant health aspect. MLCs of ECEC centers appeared relevant for child health indicators to different degrees. Future research should focus on these associations, in detail, to identify concrete ECEC indicators that can support health promotion in early childhood.
