Metabolic bone disease (MBD) is a broad term that describes a clinically heterogeneous group of diseases that are only united by a common denominator of an aberrant bone chemical milieu leading to a defective skeleton and bone abnormalities. From a forensic pathologist’s perspective, MBDs create a challenging diagnostic dilemma in differentiating them from child abuse, particularly when the victim is an infant. Through this brief narrative review on MBD, bone pathophysiology and two relatively challenging pediatric MBDs will be discussed.

Nutritional counselling has been recognised as the first line approach in the management of numerous chronic diseases. Though usually carried out by dietitians, nutritional counselling may be used by nurses, or other healthcare professionals to improve nutritional status and meet healthcare goals. Healthcare professionals require training and education to facilitate a patient centred approach to effective counselling. Advances in digital technology have the potential to improve access to nutritional counselling for some patients such as those in primary care. However, caution is required to ensure that valuable interpersonal relationships are not lost, as these form the cornerstone of effective nutritional counselling. The aim of this narrative review is to explore aspects of effective nutritional counselling, including advances in e-counselling and areas where nursing input in nutritional counselling might enhance overall nutritional care.

The extant infrastructure for child abuse surveillance, dependent on reporting by schools and healthcare professionals, has been disrupted by the pandemic. Using Google Trends and MediaCloud data, we find a drop in Internet searches and news reports about child abuse and neglect during the pandemic, which may reflect decreased scrutiny.

Robots are man-made machines; created to increase the performance of an action. They are either autonomous or semi-autonomous in the hands of the user. The medical field has evolved and revolutionized over the decades. It is the hour of the robot-assisted medical care to successfully change the clinical scenario of patient care. Employment of robotics in diverse fields of medical care has increased the effectiveness of the treatment and in return the effectiveness of the healthcare professionals. Our aim is to emphasize the advances in robot-assisted procedures over their comparable facets and highlight the unresolved challenges of robotics in medical care for the near future.
