Тhe subject of this study is the young Republic of South Sudan (RSS), the “young” – both in terms of the age of an independent state, and in terms of its demographic potential. RSS, as a member of the United Nations and as a sovereign state, appeared on the world map in 2011, but, possessing super-rich natural resources, has not yet gained sustainable development, moreover, it fell into a deep military-political crisis. Like most countries of the African continent, South Sudan had real demographic capacity, but the authorities were unable to extract any “demographic dividends” from the truly main national resource for the development of the country’s economy, moreover, the number of refugees of young working age is constantly growing. Through the example of South Sudan, which so hard achieved separation of the South from the North and failed to take advantage of the conquered democratic values, the article explores the understudied problem of modification of the consciousness of the younger generation, dictated both by the specifics of the deep historical and cultural tradition of the South Sudanese nationalities and by new trends in global evolutionary processes. Studying the stories from the lives of multi-member families affected during the military-political conflict in the RSS, the author, based on the facts, strongly criticizes the ineffective, even often vicious, youth policy of the South Sudanese government. On the other hand, analyzing the origins, nature, basic traditional moral and sociocultural aspects of child employment in the region, the researcher finds a reasoned explanation of the cause for such a policy of universal child mobilization and tries to define this phenomenon that has not been studied in the scientific literature before. Summarizing the study of the causes of a humanitarian catastrophe in the RSS, the author, in addition to generally accepted factors that influenced the current situation (such as: the intervention of major world financial players in the affairs of a sovereign state, national discord, the struggle for power and resources), also highlights the subjective and not always correct work of the world information agencies and other mass media and, of course, the incompetent state policy of the leadership of the RSS in the Youth Field. Relying on the positive events of the past few months to resolve the conflict in the RSS, the author is still trying to predict in the foreseeable future the time for growth and development of the Republic of South Sudan, with the proviso that it can happen only in case of the inclusion of restraining leverage and expansion of the range of priorities of the main national resource – the youth.

Soil-cement bricks are good examples of environmentally friendly products. This brick is the combination of soil with compacted cement with no combustion in its production. In this work the physical chemical characteristics of the soil from Piaui for producing this material were investigated. Samples of the soil were collected in three potteries from the county of Bom Jesus and pH analysis were carried out, as well as the rate of organic matter, texture, particle density, limits of liquidity and plasticity rates. The results have shown that the soils have acid tones (pH 5,49 a 6,11), which can be neutralized by adding cement, and organic matter percentages up to 1%. The samples have shown predominantly clay-rich textures with adequate plasticity limits, however, values of liquidity limits and particle density above recommended. Altogether, these soils tend to present viability concerning soil-cement brick production, provided that corrections with additives are made in order to minimize this effect.

Productivity of maize and soil properties change under alley cropping system consisting of four woody species (Gliricidia sepium, Leucaena leucocephala, Cajanus cajan and Senna siamea) at different nitrogen levels (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of recommended rate) were studied in the floodplain ecosystem of Bangladesh. Comparative growth performance of four woody species after pruning showed that L. leucocephala attained the highest height, while C. cajan produced the maximum number of branches. Higher and almost similar amount of pruned materials (PM) were obtained from S. siamea, G. sepium and C. cajan species. In general, maize yield increased with the increase in N level irrespective of added PM. However, 100% N plus PM, 75% N plus PM and 100% N without PM (control) produced similar yields. The grain yield of maize obtained from G. sepium alley was 2.82, 4.13 and 5.81% higher over those of L. leucocephala, C. cajan and S. siamea, respectively. Across the alley, only one row of maize in the vicinity of the woody species was affected significantly. There was an increasing trend in soil properties in terms of organic C, total N and CEC in alley cropping treatments especially in G. sepium and L. leucocephala alleys compared to the initial and control soils. Therefore, one fourth chemical N fertilizer can be saved without significant yield loss in maize production in alley cropping system.

A field experiment was conducted in B deficient soil (0.37 mg kg-1) to assess the frequency and level of B application for increasing crop yields in maize - sunflower cropping system, fate of B pools in soils system and to monitor the changes in soil fertility and productivity due to different levels and frequency of B application under continuous cropping system at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore since 2012. The analysis of initial soil samples indicated that experimental soil was neutral in soil pH and free from salinity with sandy clay in texture. The grain and stover yield of maize crop varied from 5.51-8.38 and 5.16 to 8.00 t ha-1 , respectively and significantly differed with rate of B application. Among the B levels application of B @ 1.0 kg ha-1 registered the maximum grain and stover yield of 7.55 and 7.00 t ha-1 , respectively and was followed by application of 1.5 kg ha-1, however they were on par with each other. After the harvest of maize crop, sunflower was raised and harvested and the grain and stalk yields were recorded. Among the B levels, application of B @ 1.0 kg ha-1 registered the maximum seed yield of 2.33 t ha-1 respectively and was followed by application of 0.5 kg ha-1. The interaction between the rate of B application and frequency significantly differed with grain and stalk yield. Among the frequency levels, application of B to maize crop alone every year (F3) registered the maximum seed yield as compared to others. The interaction effect revealed that application of B @ 0.5 kg ha-1 to all crop registered the highest seed yield of 2.79 t ha-1 respectively. Boron fractions like available boron, specifically adsorbed B, oxide B, organically bound B, residual B status and total boron contents were analysed after the harvest of second crop. The results revealed that the available B status varied from 0.277 to 1.940 mg kg-1,specifically adsorbed B ranged from 0.190 to 1.332,oxide bound B status in soil varied from 0.127 to 0.89 mg kg-1, organically bound B status in soil varied from 0.235 to 1.644 mg kg-1, residual fraction of B varied from 41.61 to 291.8 and total boron varied from 42.44 to 297.6 mg kg-1. Boron application resulted in significant increase in maize yield as first crop and sunflower as residual crop, respectively. Among the B fractions the order was residual B >organically bound > specifically adsorbed > oxide bound B. Application of B @ 2.0 kg ha-1 significantly registered the highest available B in soil (1.038 mg kg-1) and among the frequencies, application of B to all crops registered the highest available B (1.32 mg kg-1). The actual fraction of B fertilizer removed by the crops is only 1-2 % of the total applied fertilizer through soil.
