This paper presents the results of research on the luminescent properties of antimony-borate glass rods doped with europium and silver ions. The reduction of silver ions to the form of nanoparticles was carried out and the occurrence of localized plasmon resonance was demonstrated, which caused changes in the Eu3+ luminescence signal at a wavelength of 613 nm. The effect of the concentration of silver ions dopant at a constant content of europium ions on the luminescence and absorption characteristics of the produced samples was investigated. In the examined doping range, no large dependencies of spectral changes as a function of the concentration of silver ions were found. A clear quenching of the luminescence was observed due to the heating time of the doped glass matrices for the energy transition (5D0 → 7F2). Full Text: PDF ReferencesS. Kuzman, J. Perisa, V. This article describes the optical properties of nanostructures composed of silver particles embedded into a gold matrix. In previous studies these materials were shown to exhibit temperature dependent transitions to a highly conductive and strongly diamagnetic state. Here we describe the anomalous optical properties of these nanostructures. Most notably, these materials fail to obey Mie theory and exhibit an unconventional resonance with a maximum at about 4 eV, while the usual gold and silver localized surface plasmon resonances are suppressed. This effect implies a significant deviation from the bulk dielectric functions of gold and silver. We further resolved this resonance into its absorbance and scattering sub-parts. It is observed that the resonance is largely comprised of scattering, with negligible losses even at ultraviolet frequencies.

Mold and algae are primitive organisms that cause biological degradation of many type of construction materials. Subsequent remediation of damaged structures is very demanding and it is therefore necessary to take into consideration the high preventive protection against these microorganisms. In practice, as the prevention it is often use chemical products as a classical biocidal compounds. One of the modern methods of protection investigate the use of nanotechnology with biocidal ingredients, which is the main topic of this article. Silver ions and silver nanoparticles were selected as a biocide for the experiment. Research revealed that the silver in the form of nanoparticles and ions have biocidal effect against fungi and algae and it is conform to use theoretically possible them as a preventive protection against mold and algae.

The influence of shape and dielectric property of surrounding media on surface plasmon absorption band of silver nanoparticles was studied. Spherical silver nanoparticles (d = 5.6 nm) synthesized in water using NaBH4 as a reducing agent are transferred in non-polar solvent (chloroform) with phase-transfer reagent oleylamine. The absorption spectrum of oleylamine-capped silver nanoparticles dispersed in chloroform shows a strong surface plasmon resonance band that is 19 nm red-shifted compared to unmodified particles in water. The values for peak position and corresponding half widths are compared with theoretical calculations based on Mie theory. Prismatic and plate-like silver nanoparticles were synthesized in water using trisodium citrate as a reducing agent and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as stabilizer. Due to structural anisotropy of prismatic and plate-like silver nanoparticles three surface plasmon resonance bands were observed in absorption spectrum. Nanocomposites consisting of non-spherical silver nanoparticles and polyvinyl alcohol exhibit different optical properties compared to water colloid. Instead of three surface plasmon bands, nanocomposite film has only one peak at 460 nm. Reason for appearance of single surface plasmon resonance band in nanocomposite film was discussed according to Maxwell-Garnet theory.

Silver nanoparticles were synthesized using Tulsi leaves extract as reducing as well as a capping agent to reduce the steps and parameters involved in the synthesis. The morphology, stability and optical properties of Ag-nanoparticles depend on reactants and stabilizer, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) concentrations. The silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-visible spectrophotometer, and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Spherical morphology of the silver nanoparticles with an average diameter of  25 nm. Morphology changed markedly from spherical aggregated to highly polydispersed in presence of CTAB.
