This study aimed to investigate the distillation time to obtain a higher yield of essential oil and by-product (extract and hydrolate) of Schinus terebinthifolius seeds, to determine the main chemical constituents of these products and the potential fungitoxic on the Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. To obtain the essential oil and by-products, we used the method of steam distillation for 2.5, 4.0, 5.5 and 7.0 hours. The determination of the chemical composition was made by GC/MS. To determine the potential fungitoxic on mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides various concentrations of the oil and by-products were tested. Distillation periods did not influence the yield of aqueous extract and essential oil hydrolate. No chemical compounds have been identified in hydrolat or aqueous extract with the use of GC analysis. The essential oil at concentrations of 2%, 3% and 4% inhibited approximately 47% of the in vitro development of the fungus C. gloeosporioides.

Numerous articles on Salvia officinalis L. have been published regarding the composition of their essential oil. The considerable variation found may be due to the quality of the plant material as well as to the methods used for analysis. A simple GC-MS method was developed and optimized in the QbD approach, for the determination of sage essential oils. The optimization of GC-MS analysis was performed using different mobile phase flows, injection volumes, split ratios and temperature programs. The optimized method proved to be simple and can be successfully applied for the determination of sage essential oils.

Studies of sewage sludge conditioning by ultrasonic field concentrate on determination of the increase of water removal effect, which depends on kind of sludge and chemical compounds used in the dewatering process. An attempt was made to find new methods of sludge preparation before dewatering. Tests presented here focused on digested and difficult dewatered sludge. The sludge was dewatered on a vacuum filter after conditioning with polyelectrolytes and the ultrasonic field. The microscopic analysis was an additional criterion to evaluate changes in the sludge structure after preparation. The polyelectrolyte dose of 3 mg/g d.m. sonicated within 15 sec. resulted in the 50% decrease of sludge volume. Results presented confirmed our previous experiences, concerning the relation between conglomerates of sludge and the effect of dewatering.

Vietnam is the world's leading country in growing and producing pepper trees. In this study, we attempted the optimization of white pepper essential oil extraction. The obtained oil was then subject to determination of constituent composition via GC-MS method. The essential oil performance achieved 3.6% by hydro-distillation process with optimal conditions (25 grams of fresh pepper, size 18, 120 minutes extraction, 130°C). A total of 23 volatile constituents were identified from the white pepper essential oil, with the major components being 27.4% of Limonene, 3-Carene 22,928%, Sabinene 17,622%, β-pinene 10.068%, α-Pinene 5.426%.
