The main pigments found in oil palm tree leaf are chlorophylls a, b, and c. Chlorophyll a converts light energy into chemical energy through photosynthesis process. The content of chlorophyll pigments varies by their ages. The aim of this research was to determine the concentration in chlorophyll a in different ages. This study is significant in oil palm fertilization for monitoring oil palm nutrient content (NPK). Chlorophyll measurement was done by extracting using methanol solvent and concentration measurement using spectrophotometric method in order to quantify chlorophyll a concentration based on their ages. 6 samples of oil palm tree leaves, collected from 2 different ages, were analyzed. The observed values were determined based on the absorbance at wavelength (670nm) and were calculated for concentrations value based on to the Lambert-Beer law Equation. It showed that the chlorophyll a concentrations at the age of mature stage had been higher than those at the old stage. The results depicted that the chlorophyll a concentration values at the mature stage were 0.33mg/ml, 0.32mg/ml, and 0.18mg/ml, while at the old stage were 0.22 mg/ml, 0.18mg/ml, and 0.06mg/ml.

Influence of harvest date and storage conditions on the content of chlorophyll pigments in pear peelsDuring each season, pears were harvested on three dates at four-day intervals. The fruit was stored for 150 days in temperatures of 0-0.5°C in common cold storage (NA - normal atmosphere) and also in controlled atmospheres (CA) of different gaseous content: 0.8% CO2+ 2% O2, 2% CO2+ 2% O2and 3% CO2+ 3% O2. After removing the pears from storage they were additionally stored for seven days in a temperature of 17°C - simulated shelf life. The content of chlorophyll pigments (chlorophyll a + b) was determined after each harvest date, storage time and simulated shelf life. Based on the results, I concluded that the a + b chlorophyll content in the peel of both pear cultivars significantly decreased along with the subsequent harvest date. In addition, the storage conditions had a significant influence on the studied factor. Compared to the normal atmosphere, the controlled atmosphere conditions were more efficient in slowing the yellowing of the fruit due to reduced chlorophyll degradation. The atmosphere consisting of 3% CO2+ 3% O2or 2% CO2+ 2% O2was more favourable for the higher content of chlorophyll a + b in the peel of ‘Conference’ pears than 0.8% CO2+ 2% O2. In the case of ‘Concorde’ pears, the influence of particular compositions of CA on the content of chlorophyll a + b changed over the years.

In this study experiments were conducted on the influence of ½ Hoagland nutrient media (NM), utilized for germination, on the content of chlorophylls, carotenoids and activity of photosystem II (FSII) of two maize hybrids (Porumbeni 180 and Bemo 203). The results showed that contents of chlorophyll a, b, (a + b) and carotenoids were significantly higher in leaves of Bemo 203 that germinated on NM, compared to the control. But in leaves of the Porumbeni 180 hybrid significant differences in the content of chlorophyll pigments in both the control and exper-imental plants were not detected. The FSII level in the leaves of the Porumbeni 180 was higher than in leaves of the Bemo 203, both for the control and experimental plants.

Indonesia has marine biological natural resources consisting of fish, seaweed, crabs and shrimp which are very potential. The purpose of this study was to determine the composition of pigments in Ulva sp (Chlorophyta), Padina australis (Paeophyta) and Hypnea sp (Rhodophyta) obtained from Tablolong waters. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative and quantitative. Proof of pigment in samples using thin layer chromatography (TLC). The results of pigment analysis of Ulva sp obtained twelve color spots with identified pigment types consisting of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, xanthophyll, b-carotene and feofitin. The pigment content identified in Padina australis samples are chlorophyll b, feoforbid, xanthophyll, chlorophyll a, carotene and feofitin a. The types of pigments identified in Ulva sp include pigment chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotene and feofitin from the total color spots formed. Based on the results of this study concluded that non-cultivated seaweed obtained from Tablolong waters contains carotenoid and chlorophyll pigments. Suggestions from this study are expected to do an analysis of pigment content analysis in the dry season time period and continued with antioxidant testing.
