Aerosols in the atmosphere play an essential role in the radiative transfer process due to their scattering, absorption, and emission. Moreover, they interrupt the retrieval of atmospheric properties from ground-based and satellite remote sensing. Thus, accurate aerosol information needs to be obtained. Herein, we developed an optimal-estimation-based aerosol optical depth (AOD) retrieval algorithm using the hyperspectral infrared downwelling emitted radiance of the Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI). The proposed algorithm is based on the phenomena that the thermal infrared radiance measured by a ground-based remote sensor is sensitive to the thermodynamic profile and degree of the turbid aerosol in the atmosphere. To assess the performance of algorithm, AERI observations, measured throughout the day on 21 October 2010 at Anmyeon, South Korea, were used. The derived thermodynamic profiles and AODs were compared with those of the European center for a reanalysis of medium-range weather forecasts version 5 and global atmosphere watch precision-filter radiometer (GAW-PFR), respectively. The radiances simulated with aerosol information were more suitable for the AERI-observed radiance than those without aerosol (i.e., clear sky). The temporal variation trend of the retrieved AOD matched that of GAW-PFR well, although small discrepancies were present at high aerosol concentrations. This provides a potential possibility for the retrieval of nighttime AOD.

Early warning of severe weather caused by intense convective weather systems is challenging. To help such activities, meteorological satellites with high temporal and spatial resolution have been utilized for the monitoring of instability trends along with water vapor variation. The current study proposes a retrieval algorithm based on an artificial neural network (ANN) model to quickly and efficiently derive total precipitable water (TPW) and convective available potential energy (CAPE) from Korea’s second geostationary satellite imagery measurements (GEO-KOMPSAT-2A/Advanced Meteorological Imager (AMI)). To overcome the limitations of the traditional static (ST) learning method such as exhaustive learning, impractical, and not matching in a sequence data, we applied an ANN model with incremental (INC) learning. The INC ANN uses a dynamic dataset that begins with the existing weight information transferred from a previously learned model when new samples emerge. To prevent sudden changes in the distribution of learning data, this method uses a sliding window that moves along the data with a window of a fixed size. Through an empirical test, the update cycle and the window size of the model are set to be one day and ten days, respectively. For the preparation of learning datasets, nine infrared brightness temperatures of AMI, six dual channel differences, temporal and geographic information, and a satellite zenith angle are used as input variables, and the TPW and CAPE from ECMWF model reanalysis (ERA5) data are used as the corresponding target values over the clear-sky conditions in the Northeast Asia region for about one year. Through the accuracy tests with radiosonde observation for one year, the INC NN results demonstrate improved performance (the accuracy of TPW and CAPE decreased by approximately 26% and 26% for bias and about 13% and 12% for RMSE, respectively) when compared to the ST learning. Evaluation results using ERA5 data also reveal more stable error statistics over time and overall reduced error distribution compared with ST ANN.

The total ozone derived from TOVS data from NOAA 12 satellite through one step physical retrieval algorithm of  International TOVS Processing Package (ITPP) version 5.0 has been used to identify  its diurnal, monthly, latitudinal and longitudinal variability during 1998 over the domain Equator to 26° N / 60-100° E. The linkage of  maximum total ozone with warmer tropopause and lower stratosphere has been re-established. The colder upper tropospheric temperature which is normally associated with maximum ozone concentration throughout the year elsewhere in the world  has also been identified in this study but the relationship gets reversed during southwest  monsoon months(June-September) over the domain considered. The moisture  available in abundance in the lower troposphere gets precipitated due to the convective instability prevailing in the atmosphere during monsoon season and very little moisture is only available for vertical transport into the upper troposphere atop 500 hPa. The latent heat released by the  precipitation processes warms up the middle and upper atmosphere. The warm and dry upper troposphere could be the reason for less depletion of ozone in the upper troposphere during monsoonal  months and this is supported by the positive correlation coefficient prevailing in monsoon season between  total ozone and upper tropospheric (aloft 300 hPa) temperature. The warmness in middle and upper troposphere which is associated with less depletion and/or production of more  ozone in the upper troposphere may  perhaps contribute  for the  higher total ozone during monsoon months than in other seasons over peninsular Indian region.  The minimum concentration is observed during January (226 DU) over 6° N and the maximum (283DU) over 18° N during August. Longitudinal variability is less pronounced than the latitudinal variability.

In order to improve the retrieval efficiency of civil litigation cases, the research introduces the fuzzy neural network algorithm and constructs a targeted retrieval algorithm system. In the simulation verification, it is found that, in the artificial subjective evaluation results of the expert group, the comprehensive score of reference cases given by the retrieval scheme exceeds the level of reference cases in the cases promoted and studied by the Supreme Court. The use of this scheme can effectively save the preparation time of prelitigation documents and help to improve the fairness and justice of the court trial process. It is proved that the retrieval scheme has certain popularization value.

The SEMARA approach, an integration of the Simplified and Robust Surface Reflectance Estimation (SREM) and Simplified Aerosol Retrieval Algorithm (SARA) methods, was used to retrieve aerosol optical depth (AOD) at 550 nm from a Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) at 30 m spatial resolution, a Terra-Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) at 500 m resolution, and a Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) at 750 m resolution over bright urban surfaces in Beijing. The SEMARA approach coupled (1) the SREM method that is used to estimate the surface reflectance, which does not require information about water vapor, ozone, and aerosol, and (2) the SARA algorithm, which uses the surface reflectance estimated by SREM and AOD measurements obtained from the Aerosol Robotic NETwork (AERONET) site (or other high-quality AOD) as the input to estimate AOD without prior information on the aerosol optical and microphysical properties usually obtained from a look-up table constructed from long-term AERONET data. In the present study, AOD measurements were obtained from the Beijing AERONET site. The SEMARA AOD retrievals were validated against AOD measurements obtained from two other AERONET sites located at urban locations in Beijing, i.e., Beijing_RADI and Beijing_CAMS, over bright surfaces. The accuracy and uncertainties/errors in the AOD retrievals were assessed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r), root mean squared error (RMSE), relative mean bias (RMB), and expected error (EE = ± 0.05 ± 20%). EE is the envelope encompassing both absolute and relative errors and contains 68% (±1σ) of the good quality retrievals based on global validation. Here, the EE of the MODIS Dark Target algorithm at 3 km resolution is used to report the good quality SEMARA AOD retrievals. The validation results show that AOD from SEMARA correlates well with AERONET AOD measurements with high correlation coefficients (r) of 0.988, 0.980, and 0.981; small RMSE of 0.08, 0.09, and 0.08; and small RMB of 4.33%, 1.28%, and -0.54%. High percentages of retrievals, i.e., 85.71%, 91.53%, and 90.16%, were within the EE for Landsat 8 OLI, MODIS, and VIIRS, respectively. The results suggest that the SEMARA approach is capable of retrieving AOD over urban areas with high accuracy and small errors using high to medium spatial resolution satellite remote sensing data. This approach can be used for aerosol monitoring over bright urban surfaces such as in Beijing, which is frequently affected by severe dust storms and haze pollution, to evaluate their effects on public health.

Optical coherence is becoming an efficient degree of freedom for light field manipulations and applications. In this work, we show that the image information hidden a distance behind a random scattering medium is encoded in the complex spatial coherence structure of a partially coherent light beam that generates after the random scatterer. We validate in experiment that the image information can be well recovered with the spatial coherence measurement and the aid of the iterative phase retrieval algorithm in the Fresnel domain. We find not only the spatial shape but also the position including the lateral shift and longitudinal distances of the image hidden behind the random scatterer can be reconstructed, which indicates the potential uses in three-dimensional optical imaging through random scattering media.

Both the human body and its motion are three-dimensional information, while the traditional feature description method of two-person interaction based on RGB video has a low degree of discrimination due to the lack of depth information. According to the respective advantages and complementary characteristics of RGB video and depth video, a retrieval algorithm based on multisource motion feature fusion is proposed. Firstly, the algorithm uses the combination of spatiotemporal interest points and word bag model to represent the features of RGB video. Then, the directional gradient histogram is used to represent the feature of the depth video frame. The statistical features of key frames are introduced to represent the histogram features of depth video. Finally, the multifeature image fusion algorithm is used to fuse the two video features. The experimental results show that multisource feature fusion can greatly improve the retrieval accuracy of motion features.

At present, the hotel resource retrieval algorithm has the problem of low retrieval efficiency, low accuracy, low security and high energy consumption, and this study proposes a large scale hotel resource retrieval algorithm based on characteristic threshold extraction. In the large-scale hotel resource data, the mass sequence is decomposed into periodic component, trend component, random error component and burst component. Different components are extracted, the singular point detection is realized by the extraction results, and the abnormal data in the hotel resource data are obtained. Based on the attribute of hotel resource data, the data similarity is processed with variable window, the total similarity of data is obtained, and the abnormal detection of redundant resource data is realized. The abnormal data detection results and redundant data detection results are substituted into the space-time filter, and the data processing is completed. The retrieval problem is identified, and the data processing results are replaced in the hotel resource retrieval based on the characteristic threshold extraction to achieve the normalization of data source and rule knowledge. The characteristic threshold and retrieval strategy are determined, and data fusion reasoning is carried out. After repeated iteration, effective solutions are obtained. The effective solution is fused to get the best retrieval result. Experimental results showed that the algorithm has higher retrieval accuracy, efficiency and security coefficient, and the average search energy consumption is 56n J/bit.

Aiming at the problems of low image data retrieval accuracy and slow retrieval speed in the existing image database retrieval algorithms, this paper designs a clothing image database retrieval algorithm based on wavelet transform. Firstly, it represents the color consistency vector of clothing image, reflects the composition and distribution of image color through color histogram, quantifies the visual features of clothing image, aggregates them into a fixed size representation vector, and uses the Fair Value (FV) model to complete the collection of clothing image data. Then, the size of the clothing image is adjusted by using the size transformation technology, and the clothing pattern is divided into four moments with the same size. On this basis, the clothing image is discretized with the help of Hu invariant moment to complete the preprocessing of clothing image data. Finally, the generating function of wavelet transform is determined, and a cluster of functions is obtained through translation and expansion. The wavelet filter is decomposed into basic modules, and then, the wavelet transform is studied step by step. The clothing image data are regarded as a signal, split, predicted, and updated and input into the wavelet model, and the retrieval research of clothing image database is completed. The experimental results show that the design of the retrieval algorithm is reasonable, the retrieval data accuracy is high, and the retrieval speed is fast.
