AbstractResearch purpose. To get a validation of the structure, pillars and components that seem to be central, and under which, business management and managers need to develop abilities and competences to ensure the sustainability of their organizations according to the ‘DPOBE Model for Organizational Sustainability’ structure.Design/Methodology/Approach. For the validation of the structure, pillars and components and it’s practical application to measure the organization’s sustainability level with the referred model, despite the focus group exercise made in an early stage, it’s also important to get a solid opinion about it among managers and also in academia, specifically among teachers and investigators on management, business administration and economics as well near master and doctorate students in this field. In this paper, we analyse the results obtained in an exploratory study, based on a survey made among students from four different master’s degree in several specific areas of business management from the School of Business Administration from the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (Portugal).Findings. Main results obtained with this exploratory study let the authors be granted with the developments made so far in the model and its structure, pillars and components. However, only with a major collection of opinions (answer to the survey) from the referred groups, it’s possible to define and adjust the final structure and components of the DPOBE Model.Originality/Value/Practical implications. Being an investigation with several years of development, with several articles, chapters of books, master’s degree thesis, congress presentations and papers made so far, only with a solid and validated structure, pillars and components of the DPOBE Model for Organizational Sustainability, it’s possible to go to its aim, the use of it as a quantitative tool to measure the effective organizations sustainability in a way different from other existing sustainability tools and indexes.

This study was based on the findings during teaching and learning process at FKIP Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu (the Faculty of Educational Science and Teacher Training of Dehasen University of Bengkulu). There was a phenomenon of declining of good character value and morality. This is because of the misused of advancing technology by students that brings negative impact on the students' character and morality. This phenomenon was especially found among new students of FKIP (Faculty of Educational Science and Teacher Training) on their early stage of study. At the meeting of Educational Profession (Profesi Pendidikan) course, we did early observation by making contract with the new student.. They generally still brought their local character and moralor their old behavior. This could be seen, for example, they talked to their lecturers and seniors impolitely or often used their local language.  Everyone's patience was needed in dealing withthis phenomenon. As the lectures progressed, especially Educational Profession course, we tried to internalize character values toward the students. This had positive impact for them. Today, they are found to be more polite, for example, they greet their lecturers and seniors when they meet them. This study dealt with character values such as: religious, discipline, honest, hard work, responsible, love peace, appreciate achievements, and friendly or communicative. This Exploratory study which was done to internalize character value of the students, has positive impact, this can be seen fromthepositive progress of students' character. Students who already have good character will keep learning to have better personality. This wil affect their future job, especially if they become teachers.

Chronic inflammation and long-standing oxidative stress are potential predisposing factors for developing malignancies, including ovarian cancer (OVCA). Information on the association of ovarian chronic abnormal conditions, including polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), with the development of OVCA is unknown. The goal of this study was to examine if polycystic ovarian conditions are associated with OVCA development. In the exploratory study, 3–4-year-old laying hens were randomly selected and examined for the presence of polycystic ovaries with cancer (PCOC). In the prospective study, hens were monitored by ultrasound scanning to detect the incidence of a polycystic ovaries and subsequent development of OVCA. Tissues from normal ovaries and PCOC were examined for macrophage infiltration, expression of interleukin-16, and superoxide dismutase 2. The exploratory study detected spontaneous PCOC at early and late stages in hens. PCOC in hens were accompanied with influx of macrophages (17.33 ± 2.26 in PCOC at the early stage and 24.24 ± 2.5 in PCOC at the late stage in 20 mm2 areas of tissue as compared with 6.77 ± 1.58 in normal hens). Expression of interleukin-16 was more than 2.5-fold higher and superoxide dismutase 2 was approximately 3-fold higher in PCOC hens than normal hens. The prospective study showed the development of OVCA in some hens with polycystic ovarian condition (PCO). PCOC development in hens was associated with chronic inflammation in the ovary. Laying hens may represent a potential model for the study of spontaneous PCOS and its long-term risk of PCOC development.

AbstractThis paper is an exploratory study examining humor differences among four regions of the United States and the managerial implications of such differences. The results indicate significant differences between the regions regarding affiliative and self-defeating humor, the creation and performance of humor, the use of humor in coping and in social situations, and attitudes toward humor. Managerial implications for researchers and practitioners are discussed.

There is an increasing recognition within the developed economies across the world that today, CSR is not an optional extra; i.e., firms can no longer look at CSR as a luxury or an indicator of their goodwill toward society. Firms, in todays context, are seeking to integrate CSR in their corporate policies and strategies. Developing countries firms, however, are still in the early stage of their awareness and integration of CSR activities within their corporate policies and strategies. The present exploratory study utilizes a sample of Saudi Arabian firms managers to assess the extent of their awareness of CSR, its role within their organizations, the extent of CSR integration in their corporate policies, and the nature and scope of these firms CSR activities. Results indicate that there is a reasonable level of CSR awareness as well as a moderately positive attitude toward the concept. However, most CSR activities in Saudi Arabia seem to focus on the local communities in which these firms operate. Discussion of the results and their implications are provided.

<p>The increase of urban population is closely interconnected to the demand for living spaces that accommodate various urban activities. When the balance between the need for, and the availability of, such spaces is disturbed, unlivable spaces are generated which would eventually downgrade the quality of urban environment. Bearing in mind the increasing clamor over global warming during the last two decades, Urban Planners should carefully anticipate the issue and put their focus on, and even provoke the creation of Sustainable Green Space Development, including the creation of open green urban spaces. Accommodating the aspirations and participation of citizens, through the application of the development principle based on “from, by and for them”, becomes a most important part of the strategy to achieve sustainable development patterns. The worsening environmental deterioration due to the stakeholders becoming unheedful about the issue should be taken into serious consideration. In the study, observations have been conducted in a descriptive manner by using a non randomized experimental design using control at three neighborhoods in West Jakarta, with one of them being the controller. It was showing that after the first 6 months, the application of green environment approach in the neighborhoods was maintained through self-help and communal actions. Community organizations that have been established on the spirit of mutual co-operation becomes determinative for the success of such sustainable pattern; the sustanability would in phases also improve the people’s economy and their social interaction. The involvement of local governments, the private sector and the community would also greatly influence the creation of Sustainable Green Development Pattern, and should continuously be evaluated and improved for replications in other locations in an ever perfect process.<br />Keywords: sustainable, green open space, participation, partnership.</p>
