Abstract. Bollen and colleagues have advocated the use of formative scales despite the fact that formative scales lack an adequate underlying theory to guide development or validation such as that which underlies reflective scales. Three conceptual impediments impede the development of such theory: the redefinition of measurement restricted to the context of model fitting, the inscrutable notion of conceptual unity, and a systematic conflation of item scores with attributes. Setting aside these impediments opens the door to progress in developing the needed theory to support formative scale use. A broader perspective facilitates consideration of standard scale development concerns as applied to formative scales including scale development, item analysis, reliability, and item bias. While formative scales require a different pattern of emphasis, all five of the traditional sources of validity evidence apply to formative scales. Responsible use of formative scales requires greater attention to developing the requisite underlying theory.

Abstract Dishub Surabaya and traffic Unit Polrestabes Surabaya partners  do speeding tickets through CCTV to reduce traffic violations in traffic and prevent accidents frequently happened. For the socialization of the press role is required so that residents will know  this new traffic regulation. The way of the spread CCTV by the way to traffic gridlock around the continuously to be done in make the community become disciplined in the traffic signs and regulations. The underlying theory is a theory of mass communication, theory of hypodermic needle theory, S-O-R theory, discipline theory, theories of adolescence. The methodology that was used this research is quantitative methods with type of correlational quantitative. In this research that are samples are teenagers klampis semalang 96 respondents. From the results of statistics done shows that significantly is the cctv news traffic to discipline attitude traffic in teenagers Klampis Semalang Urban village Klampis Ngasem in Sukolilo Surabaya city. We studied how academics assess the results of a set of four experiments that all test a given theory. We found that participants’ belief in the theory increases with the number of significant results, and that direct replications were considered to be more important than conceptual replications. We found no difference between authors and reviewers in their propensity to submit or recommend to publish sets of results, but we did find that authors are generally more likely to desire an additional experiment. In a preregistered secondary analysis of individual participant data, we examined the heuristics academics use to assess the results of four experiments. Only 6 out of 312 (1.9%) participants we analyzed used the normative method of Bayesian inference, whereas the majority of participants used vote counting approaches that tend to undervalue the evidence for the underlying theory if two or more results are statistically significant.

A singularly perturbed, high order KdV-type model, which describes localized travelling waves (“solitons”) is being considered. We focus on the Inner solution, and detect Stokes phenomena that are crucial as to whether we can obtain a suitable solution. We provide a simple proof that the corresponding Stokes constant is non-zero. Also, we evaluate this splitting constant numerically by using two methods that are induced by the underlying theory.

This research aims to analyze how students of Law Major of Social and Political Sciences Faculty ofTeuku Umar University responded to the issue of transferring the location of the execution of the caningto prison. Spiral of silence theory is the underlying theory of this research. The method used in thisresearch is quantitative descriptive method by distributing questionnaires to 20 students. From the resultsof the research found that the students did not agree with the government plan to move the location of theexecution of the caning to prison. It is considered that such a punishment will not make the defendantsdeterrent because the effect of shame does not exist. The defendant will not be punished by the public fornot being shown publicly. The students also considered that the prohibition to take pictures andrecordings when the process of application of caning law should not be prohibited. In addition thestudents considered that the implementation of caning law in the mosque will not cause a sense of thephobia of investors to instill their shares in Aceh and the implementation of caning law in the mosquedoes not violate human rights. The students alleged the transfer of location of the canning law full ofpolitical interests so it is feared that the ruling parties in violation of the Shariah will not receive thecaning punishment because of their power.Keyword: Opinion, students of Law Major, Caning1.
