The modern world popularity of the nai — a traditional Romanian instrument — has identified interest in writing this article. This problematic constitutes the circle of our research interest as a doctoral candidate, but also as a concert performer, a graduate of the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts. One of the most interesting aspects of the study of nai is its technical improvement since 60s of the 20th century, which led to the acquisition of a number of new, innovative skills and performance skills. In this article we have identified some pages of the modern history of the manufacture of this ancient instrument associated with these processes.

Introduction: Technical improvement to enhance M2 occlusion thrombectomy is desirable. Tron FX® is the only stent-retriever that can be deployed through 0.0165-inch microcatheters. Here we report outcomes of blind exchange with mini-pinning (BEMP) technique using Tron stent-retrievers. Methods: Consecutive stroke patients with M2 occlusion treated with 2 x15 mm or 4 x 20 mm Tron stent-retrievers using the BEMP technique were included. The technique involves the deployment of a Tron stent-retriever through a 0.0165-inch microcatheter followed by microcatheter removal and blind navigation of a 3/4MAX aspiration catheter over the bare Tron delivery wire until the aspiration catheter reaches the clot,. Tron stent-retriever was inserted into aspiration catheter like corkscrew, and subsequently pulled as a unit. A first pass effect (FPE), modified FPE (mFPE) and modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at 90 days were assessed as outcomes. Results: Fifteen M2 vessels were treated in 13 patients (5 women, median 81 years of age, and median National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score 18 [11–25]). BEMP technique was successful in all cases. Whether to use 3MAX or 4MAX was determined according to the target vessel size while proceeding with the procedure (3MAX, n=8; 4MAX, n=5). Final mTICI 2b–3 was achieved in 92% (12/13). FPE and mFPE rates were 50% and 64%, respectively. Six patients (46%) were achieved in mRS score 0–2 at 3 months. Conclusions: Tron stent-retriever was successfully and safely used in the BEMP technique for M2 occlusion

The increasing demand for raw material for multiple uses of forest products and by-products has attracted the interest for fast growing species, such as the Australian Cedar (Toona ciliata), which presents high productive and economic potential. The present work aimed at estimating genetic diversity by DNA markers and morphological traits supported for the mixed models. The following traits were measured and genotypes were sampled randomly in different areas: diameter at breast height, height, cylindrical volume, diameter, distance between nodes and crown diameter. Twelve RAPD primers were used and generated a total of 91 marks, 82 of which were polymorphic. The high percentage of polymorphic markers, 90.10%, demonstrated that discrimination in this species is efficient, but it yet little studied, for this case we can find the extent of the genetic basis for the application of technical improvement. The assessment of genetic diversity by the UPGMA method using the binary and morphological data provided the expression of genetic dissimilarities among the accessions evaluated, optimizing the perception of this divergence. The use of mixed models was efficient to assess combined genetic diversity to optimize the selection of genotypes with divergent genetic values for diameter at breast height.

Various specialist cultures configure bodies as complex technological devices. We know little about how exactly this is done. I focus on one of these cultures, classical ballet, to praxeologically reconstruct the conceptual, situational and material configuration of bodies as particular instruments. The technologization of the body is closely intertwined with the scientification of the practice – its ladenness with scientific knowledge about the body and an elaborate apparatus for the production of bodies. When anatomical knowledge and didactics intertwine in ballet class, this facilitates an opening of the black box ‘body’ for technical improvement. ‘A body’ becomes a plurality of (in this case, anatomically distinguished) actants. This distributed corporeality suggests that ‘the body’ is an assemblage that becomes apparent as such in moments of its modification. The empirical case as well as the analytical approach here give reason to reconsider the distinction between humans and non-humans that still prevails in actor-network theory and elsewhere.

Traffic related noise is currently considered as an environmental pollution. Paper presents results of multidirectional study attempting to serve urban traffic without the need to erect noise barriers interfering urban space. Initial concept of the road expansion included construction of 1000 m of noise barriers dividing city space. Improvement in the acoustic conditions after construction completion is possible due to the applied noise protection measures: vehicle speed limit, smooth of traffic flow, use of road pavement of reduced noise emission and the technical improvement of the tramway.

Abstract BACKGROUND Despite considerable research investment, moving from biomarker discovery to clinical application has presented unique challenges. We aimed to evaluate progress toward clinical application of a sample of molecular- and “omics”-based diagnostic tests over a 10-year period. METHODS We used Scopus to locate studies, published before the December 31, 2016, citing 107 original-research articles published in 2006 that assessed the diagnostic value of a molecular- or “omics”-based test. We identified diagnostic studies of the same test and disease and determined whether the article represented progress in the validation of the molecular test. We classified the types of progress: (a) clinical validation (measuring diagnostic accuracy in a series of patients similar to the population in which the test will be used in practice), (b) technical improvement, (c) extended diagnostic application (modification of the diagnostic question attended initially by the test), (d) economic evaluation, or (e) clinical use or implementation. RESULTS In the 10-year period analyzed, 4257 articles cited the 107 diagnostic studies; 118 (2.8%) were diagnostic studies of the same test, and of these papers, 25 (21.2%) did not constitute progress toward validation of the test for use in clinical practice (potential research waste). Of the 107 molecular- or “omics”-based tests described in 2006, only 28 (26.2%) appeared to have made progress toward clinical application. Only 4 (9.1%) of 44 proteomics-based tests had made progress toward clinical application. CONCLUSIONS Articles evaluating molecular- or “omics”-based diagnostic tests are numerous in biomedical journals. Few tests have made progress toward clinical application in the 10 years following their discovery.
